I knew it was too good to be true but the idea of getting front row seats took hold of me. I did not even care so much about the ALL ACCESS aspect of it. I was just thinking how amazing it would be to rock out in the front row of one of these shows.

I learned a lesson today. Paypal and or Credit Cards only in the future.

    Thanks everyone.

Paypal using CC only. Paypal using your bank account is very risky.

I've had PP side with me on a dispute, only to tell me that the fraudulent seller closed their account so they couldn't refund money. And that's where CC rules saved me... every time.

So - I answered a Craigslist ad for ALL ACCESS VIP passed to the 5/21 PJ show at MSG. Said Section 1/Row A and All Access VIP Passes for $300. Sounds too good to be true?

Impulsive as I am, I contact the guy and ask a bunch of questions. Seemed legit. Met with his messenger who delivered actual authentic looking VIP All Access Necklace passes with bar codes, seat assignments, pictures of the PJ band in all their glory.

    So I paid the $300.

Then I returned to my office and skepticism got the best of me. I tried using a bar code scanner and guess what: Neither of the bar codes are actually scannable. Unless it is because they are behind plastic???? Also - The bar code pictures themselves (thick and thin black lines) match on both tickets even though the ticket numbers are completely different....

Has anyone had any exerpience with ALL ACCESS passes. Do they scan or type the digits in when entering venue? Am I f'd out of my money?
    Thoughts?

You have been scammed brother. Sorry. Row 1 is all fan club lottery winners.

RedMosquito22 beat me to it, but yeah, first row is fan club members that have won the lottery and wouldn't have their tickets until the day of the show.

True "All Access" passes - meaning those that are available to the band & its crew are generally the same for the entire tour, and most of the time they will have a sticker with a crew member's name on it, and that person can lend it out (and get it back) as they see fit.
The notable exception to this policy is if the band plays a venue that is union-organized, i.e., Radio City Music Hall, in which case an entirely different set of All Access passes are issued.

There's generally 2 kinds of "VIP" passes that are issued. Again, these are normally made up for the entire tour. There's the kind that get you backstage, similar to an All Access, but VIP access is limited at the band's discretion. Sometimes you can get onto the stage with VIP, and sometimes you can't get past certain points.
Then there's the other kind of VIP passes that have become more popular in the last few years, and these are the only kind that I've ever seen with a bar code on them. These you pay big money for, and will give you certain privileges, like better parking or better seating or better seating with waitress service. In general- with very limited exceptions- these VIP passes/ packages DO NOT get you backstage. Honestly I've never seen a legit "All Access" pass for sale.
Sorry you got the shaft. Truly does suck.

Check this out - current post on Craisglist:

    Pearl Jam
    Last night at MSG
Two VIP's to view from Section 1 Row A
    VIP entry Thru Media Gate
$300 each. Must pick up in Manhattan

Your scam artist is still operating - he posted the above on 4/29. I got ripped off for a John Mayer concert a few months ago - hard copy tickets with a bar code on ticket stock, looked real, and weren't. For reasons I can't quite articulate (and which may amount to a fervent wish), suspect that this rip-off artist is the same guy.

I emailed a response to the poster and sincerely hope he "bites."

You've received all of the advice you need in here already, but one thing about this strikes me...isn't it likely that the "messenger" is actually the scammer? He'd claim to be a messenger so that he could meet you face to face without you going after him. This would be especially true if you realized you were a victim and were setting him up with a separate, "fake" transaction. Know what I mean? That messenger thing is probably an act.

Its interesting. They operate with 2 cell phone numbers and they are definitely 2 different people. One's vmail is not set up so you cannot leave a message and the other's vmail is full so you cannot leave a message. The only time they answer is when they know you are calling. I.e. Left me a message to say "I am on the corner to meet you. Call me back" WHen I called back, he answered right away. Then after I figured out scam, I tried calling both numbers 15 minutes later and cannot get either of them....

  • Look, obviously I'm the asshole for saying this, but: What are you thinking paying $300 for front row seats and backstage passes???? If you go on Stubhub right now, seats by the stage are selling for THOUSANDS of dollars, and you're getting front row and backstage for $300?? I mean, come on.

Look, I hope you get your money back. It's a shitty story. But you got to be smarter than that.

Damn man, I feel terrible for you. It amazes me how souless people are and see no wrong in making a living off of fucking someone over. I'm true to the philosophy of "do onto other as you would want to be done upon yourself", or in laymen terms "how would you like it if someone did that to you?". NY is full of scams/scammers. To forewarn anyone looking to buy tickets on the street; be weary! A couple years ago, I let my buddy talk me into buying "ringside" seats for the Cotto fight at the garden. My gut told me they were fake, but I got lazy and just wanted to end the ticket search. Sure enough, the tickets wouldn't scan and I was out of $120.

Be weary at big events, especially in NY!

Hope things work out for you man.
