Author of Arizona immigration law wants to end birthright citizenship
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ynews/20100521/ ... ews_pl2192
The author of Arizona's immigration law, state Sen. Russell Pearce, told constituents he wants to pass another measure to invalidate citizenship granted to the children of illegal aliens.
Pearce wrote that he plans to "push for an Arizona bill that would refuse to accept or issue a birth certificate that recognizes citizenship to those born to illegal aliens, unless one parent is a citizen," in an email obtained by Phoenix CBS affiliate KPHO.
Pearce also forwarded an email from another correspondent expanding on the proposal — which he later told KPHO he didn't agree with. "If we are going to have an effect on the anchor baby racket, we need to target the mother. Call it sexist, but that's the way nature made it. Men don't drop anchor babies, illegal alien mothers do," the email said.
Pearce did tell the CBS affiliate, however, that he didn't see anything wrong with using the term "anchor baby" to refer to natural-born U.S. citizens.
Last year, 92 Congressmen sponsored a bill that would change the 14th Amendment so that children of illegal aliens born in the United States would not be granted citizenship. The bill is still in committee.
Last month, Rep. Duncan Hunter of California told a tea party rally he would support deporting children of illegal aliens, even if they are citizens.
"And we're not being mean. We're just saying it takes more than walking across the border to become an American citizen," he said. "It's what's in our souls."
His spokesman later sought to clarify the remarks with the Associated Press, saying that Duncan believes that "U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants should stay with their parents unless there is a legal guardian who could take care of them."

birthright citizenship is already banned or modified in many other countries, the UK, New Zealand, Austrailia, Germany, just about everyone in the EU. Why is it such a terrible concept?that’s right! Same can be said for liberals who want to claim how European countries are so much more socially advanced than the US. It isn't a good argument either way.
Personally I am not at all against birth right citizenship, but I do think it should be modified a little. However the cost of these babies is something that should be examined. It would also be a way to help add incentive to coming across the border legally.that’s right! europeans ARE more socially advanced than we are. they don't deny climate change, they are working on alternate energy sources, the scandinavian countries have some of the greatest pioneering surgeons with many medical procedures (mostly in orthopedics, my area of expertice) that are not approved by the FDA that treat many severe bone and joint problems, they don't have the gun violence we have, they don't have a society with customs based on religious beliefs or religion in public schools, nor do they want that like so many people here do, they don't start wars based on faulty logic and intelligence, they do not elect leaders based SOLELY ON ONE ISSUE like abortion, their governments are not controlled by lobbyists and corporations, they don't have morons like sarah palin, glenn beck, or hannity running their mouths and making bad situations worse, and unlike the majority of the US they pay attention to world affairs, because what WE do affects them. i have had intelligent meaningful conversations from more europeans than from most americans and i happen to agree with many of the social principles that are prominent in europe."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

birth right citizenship can be modified. I believe in France it is dependant on residency being established prior to the birth. That is modifiying birth right citizenship, it is still a form of jus soli, but not true form, or by another definition, a modified form.
sweeping generalizations don't make it true. There are dumb people everywhere, there are single issue people everywhere. It seems like a grass is greener kind of thing with a lot of people. Europe is probably a great place to live, but a lot of people make it seem like there are no problems there. I can tell you from experience that the US is a great place to live also, but there are problems here. It seems like you only take the negatives from the US, that don't actually represent the majority of the people of the US, and then say european countries don't do that.that’s right!
