Does anyone have an mp3 version of Unstaged? I can't seem to find one.

Also, I'm considering Newport FF. Has anyone been there, if so how was the atmosphere, crowd, etc?

I'm seeing them in memphis for the first time. Really looking forward to to go.
  • funny story. happened to be at a store and catch a snippet of a song. just a little part of it. 3:44 to 5:05 of I Needed It Most. Specifically the stuff starting at 3:54 or so. i forget what happened but whoever was playing the record turned it off or something after that part. Had i heard the beginning of the song, or any part where you could hear Jim's voice, I would have obviously known who it was. How do you describe that part of the song though? when i heard it, i knew immediately it was an album I owned. But my cd collection is ridiculous. i have thousands of cds. I thought about posting on here, but all i knew was that snippet of the song, no words. this was maybe a month ago, and just last week, i considered that maybe i'd never hear that song the rest of my life. unless i was willing to methodically go through every single cd i owned. based on that snippet, my mind was leaning towards maybe mogwai, or explosions, beirut, bon iver, i was leaning heavily toward it being a song by an instrumental band as all i heard was instrumental. but i know those artists pretty well and couldnt come up with any song that sounded anything like the part of I Needed It Most. I was considering posting on here, just a general post, not in this thread as I didnt know it was MMJ, but saying "I heard a song and its instrumental and sounds waltzy, has a bell sounding thing, and maybe mandolins or something, sounds almost eastern european (which is why i thought beirut)". I wonder if anyone would have guessed it was this song. Anyways, I happened to pass by someone who was listening to MMJ today. Dusted off my own copy of At Dawn today, and heard it. So glad I found this album again, that part of the song is so damn pretty.

i tend to really picture MMJ as being such a perfect band to soundtrack august and september, early fall, late summer, but it sounds damn good in march!

I think it was a made-up song. At first, all Al had was the melody "mm-mm him," which he then figured out was "Go with him," but the radio DJ said that wasn't the title (without saying what the title was). Al finally found a record store clerk who could tell him what it was, and he bought a vintage 45 of the song, but Kelly's boyfriend (if I recall, it was Matt LeBlanc as Vinnie Verducci, soon to be spun off into the short-lived Top of the Heap) accidentally broke it.

And there's your proof I'm an even bigger TV geek than music geek. Bet I haven't seen that episode in 15 years.

awesome! Married With Children was the first thing i thought of too.

also, perfect point about August, Sept, early fall soundtrack.

seeing them live during that period of the year is the best

Anyone check out the setlist and pics from the Tokyo show? God I miss this band. Please play multiple nights in the Northeast! (aside from Newport)

Why arent they updating with setlists on the archive page of their site?

Still looks like the circuital tour (which it is for Japan)...but hopefully that changes when they come back and play multiple shows in the Northeast (besides Newport) ;):D

Not sure. I just dug through the forum and saw the stuff. Yeah, I expect Japan/Australia to be similar to the shows we got last year. Did you see though they played Lowdown? Great song. I'm convinced we get a few shows around here this summer.

And a tip of the cap to you ms. twisted. Hope we all can meet up again in 2012.

To all of you who said I would be blown away when I finally saw them >>> so right!
Didn't get all the songs I was after but if I'd known the live experience was going to be that good I might have gone interstate for another show
I don't mean to offend anyone, a lot of what I say should be taken with a grain of salt... that said for most of you I'm a stranger on a computer on the other side of the world, don't give me that sort of power!

i can't wait for that red rocks download. i thought it was strange that there wasn't an audience recording on the archive after that show. now it makes sense. still waiting for the t5 bootlegs. hope that's part of the announcement on the 30th, although i know tour dates are going to be part of that.

word is that they are playing the mann in philly in august, and merriweather the following night. forget what the date was. the 7th or the 17th i think. i'll be at both for sure.

I'm thinking it needs to involve the T5 shows. It's been almost a year since they gave away one free song from each night.

I need the full version of Cobra from the At Dawn night. That blew my mind.

i need that 20+ minute dondante from z night.

and i need the whole tennessee fire recording because my dumb ass drank so much wine that night that i can hardly remember it. thankfully i stayed sober for the next 4 shows.

Yes, my favorite studio song. Too bad I couldnt make The Tenneessee Fire night. I have now heard 4 of their albums in their entirety, half of ISM, and not even one song off of TTF.

With some recent tour dates leaking, you almost have to assume it's going to be tour dates. Somebody on the MMJ board said that they heard tix for the alleged Philly show were going on sale next Friday, so that would align with the new roll call set up. I would definitely be psyched for T5 releases, but gimme a tour over that anyday.
