First time seeing them live and I was completely blown away by them. The musicianship by them is something I've never ever seen a band. Jims voice was so perfect for msg. I walked outta msg having my mind being blown away. I thought the Xmas cover was cool but also a bit cheesy.

they are the best band live in the world right now. nothing comes close to the way I feel coming out of a mmj show.
I'm just flying around the other side of the world to say I love you

Their Fan Club is kind of a mixed bag as far as tickets go. 3 of the 4 times I saw them this year were all GA, so being in Roll Call didn't help. I got crappy seats through them for the Louisville show (the one they streamed on YouTube), but they sent out an email day of show and I was one of the first 6 to reply and they bumped me up to 1st row.

They do, however, send you a poster and t-shirt and a fancy roll call certificate :P
And you also have the opportunity to purchase the sound check party passes when they host them.

Are you talking about bands you've actually seen live or just that you've never seen a band with better musicians than them? I love what they do, but I think part of the appeal is how simple they keep everything.

I will say Carl is a monster musician capable of playing any instrument he puts his hands on, but overall I don't think they show over the top mindblowing skills when it comes to flat out playing.

There's a new MMJ song on there called Welcome Home. Gorgeous song. And they cover The Band's Christmas Must Be Tonight. Stellar version. And you get a half hour interview with the band. Completely worth the 5 bucks for it.
  • Can anyone compare MSG 08 to MSG 11 for me?

Why does my mind blow to bits every time they play that song? It’s just the way that he sings

  • I have Picture Disc LPs of Evil Urges, Z, and It Still Moves from the T5 shows...anyone want the originals at cost??? Kinda seems silly to hold onto two sets of records anymore. Will sell individually or as a group, will give discount to buying all 3

  • Anyone grab tix for New Multitudes this spring? I'll sadly be out of the country when YY rolls thru Beantown.

YB, sorry for the non response on the PM a while back. The only one of those I'd need is Z, and I've been spending money like a gold digging trophy husband the last month, so I'm locking it down for a while. Sorry buddy.

Steam Engine just posted a few awesome new MMJ sets. I've been running through Tokyo 09 and Vic Theater 05 the past few days.

  • And also a must hear is the Smashing Pumpkins in Germany 1996, also posted at Steam Engine.

Tonight Tonight, Zero, F You (ode to no one), Today, To Forgive, Bullet w butterfly, Eyes of Ruby, Porcelina, Disarm, Muzzle, Cherub Rock, 1979, XYU

What a set! That's how amazing and unique the 90s were that we had a band like Smashing Pumpkins, who were very successful and diversified a sound are considered "average" as a 90s band. Maybe you guys think otherwise.

The kid that runs that blog has so much awesome stuff. Check it out. The MMJ archive will take you weeks to get through. "O" is the one that's real. Hahahahaha

  • Well, it doesnt really get any more inconvenient than The Paradise when it comes to those of us who live outside of Boston. YY solo, I'd consider pulling strings, but I'll be passing on that one. Still patiently awaiting some Radiohead dates **taps finger**

Love me some early Pumpkins. Didnt care for much of their stuff after Mellon Collie. That double disc right there was part of the soundtrack of my disturbed youth  How's the sound quality of that boot? I'll have to check that out for sure.

Steamengine is where its at. That guy has really created something great with that website.

What is everyone's thoughts on MMJ 2012? Are we gonna get more US dates? Starting to to think not with all this New Multitudes stuff going on.

They're already confirmed for Jazz Fest and Bo said they were playing Beale Street Music Fest too. Both festivals are on the same weekend so that makes sense. That makes me hope for more dates in May, but they covered the whole US last year pretty well so I don't know.
  • Oh, they're playing allright

  • You're thinking they won't tour because of 5 dates in March for a side project? Yeesh, oh ye of little faith. Unlike Pearl Jam, these guys hit the road every fn year. 2012 will be a big year with big setlists and big surprises. I guar-on-tee it!
