The Beatles are beyond awesome, they are part of the fabric of British guitar music, you only have to look at the most commercially successful guitar band of recent times, Oasis to see their influence is as strong today as it ever was. To go from "Please Please Me" to "Let it Be" in just 7 years is insane! Although I have no real time for pre Revolver albums you watch the dance floor fill at a party when early Beatles is played!, I love all the albums after, there is gold on every one. (I make no defense of Revolution Number 9 tho).
The Beatles cannot be judged in anyway other than as the greatest Rock and Roll band the world has seen. Any way you want to look at it they are the kings. Record sales, critical acclaim, and influence. Sure Dylan is a better lyricist, but he can't sing like Paul, and have you seen the footage of them live? What other band created that level of hysteria? The world had not seen anything like them before, and only Michael Jackson got near that kind of reactions since.
One thing I don't understand is why no one makes mention of the early stuff. The early stuff made them famous.

I'm on board with everything you said except they are not the kings of Live Shows. In that department I don't think they crack the top 100.
Now had they toured, could they have been? probably. But club shows in Germany and a weak ass tour of American Stadiums does not a great touring band make.
Otherwise they are the King in all other categories. IMO.

My apologies, I didn't mean it to read they were the kings of live shows, it was a reference to the insane screaming and hysteria for them at shows. You can't judge them live really as you couldn't hear them!

Give me The Stones over The Beatles any day.
