That's what I plan on listening to until the Hartford show. They're my favorite band. First music I ever listened to since I was a baby (thanks to my dad). First 13 years of my life, they were all I listened to. I fucking love this band!! Who knows what music would be like without them; they truly changed music forever. There's too many songs and albums to choose as just your favorite. That's how great they are! Beatles forever!!
Shows: 6.27.08 Hartford, CT/5.15.10 Hartford, CT/6.18.2011 Hartford, CT (EV Solo)/10.19.13 Brooklyn/10.25.13 Hartford

I love the Beatles as well, saw Sir Paul a few years back felt very lucky, seeing Ringo this summer.

What they did in a decade was amazing, probably never to be duplicated.

But what I like most about the Beatles is what they never did, once they broke up they had the balls to stay apart, nobody was left with memories of 4 guys getting together putting an album out and touring just so they can make loads of money. The other 3 never got together in three never got together in the 80's. All good memories.

Well the three of them reunited for the Anthology and worked on the two Lennon songs, a third was given to them, but they didn't want to work on it. I strongly/highly recommend anyone to buy the Anthology. It'll be worth every penny you spend on it. Amazing documentary.

  • I'm sorry but, to me, they were an incredibly average band who just happened to be at the right place at the right time.

Surpassed in terms of each member individually and lyrically since. Not to kiss ass or anything, but Eddie has written lyrics that blitz anything The Beatles did.

The argument of "well there would be such and such a band now had it not been for The Beatles" doesn't wash with me. It's such an easy statement to make without having any real proof that music would be different today had The Beatles never existed.

i would start with revolver or abbey road . they tend to have awesome tracks on most albums but also quite a bit of experimental filler ( white album , sgt peppers etc ) the first two i mentioned are pretty great throughout !! .
    enjoy :P

I love Eddie and not to put his lyrics down or anything, but I don't think he can write a song like "Across the Universe." That's a lyrical masterpiece right there.

youre entitled to your opion. Like everyone else.

I reckon they were pretty awesome. Lyrically maybe not, but fk me they could put together chord progressions (First 3 chords of something pops to mind), had amazing tone for their time period, experimented (in things more than just music ;) ) and to me all that counts for a heap.

They didnt tour because everytime thy would play a show you couldnt hear a thing cos chicks would be screamin

I wouldn't start w/the later albums because you'll want to hear the progression of their sound which was quite dramatic. I would start w/Rubber Soul because it was kind of a bridge between their very early poppy sound and they're more rocking sound. From there I would just move chronologically to their last album, Let It Be. My faves are Abbey Road & The White Album. Love a couple songs off of Let It Be as well.

  • best and most important band in all of history. anyone who says different should be viewed with a skeptical eye. As far as I am concerned The Beatles lyrics and music represent a more modern bible. I mentioned this before, in a previous thread, but in terms of both musical, cultural and political importance no other band even comes close to the Beatles. The characters they created, Mean Mr Mustard, Mr Kite, Polythylene Pam, Father Mackenzie, those are real people as far as I am concerned. If you are someone who is just getting into music, whether that means you are learning an instrument, or if listening to music is a passion, you need to know the basics. The Beatles are the blueprint for everything musically. The beatles are one of those bands and figures that seem larger than life. That to spend time thinking about their impact and importance its hard to even fathom they existed at all, their imprint is so massive and immense.

So to answer your question, their has never been nor will there ever be, a band as awesome as The Beatles.
  • some one else mentioned in another thread how one day, no Beatles will be living. It brings tears to my eyes to even contemplate that. What a sad and horrific day that is gonna be. How empty the world is going to be at that moment. How horribly off kilter the worlds spin is going to feel.
  • Ed is an incredible lyricist but you are certifiable if you think his lyrics are up to par with Paul or John. Ed would say you were certifiable as well if you told him that. There are great lyricists and then there are GREAT lyricists. People like Dylan and John and Paul are in the latter group.
