They are so damn good live, crushed it last night.

The new tunes sounded great ... but don't they all.

Nice, seeing them Wed at the House of Blues. Can't wait to hear the new songs live.

I just got into them only. It took me a while before I really appreciated the music. Listened to Boxer and High Violet so far, but I think they are equally strong. There's just something about Matt's voice that sucks you in.

BTW, can anyone point me to where I can find their cover of Springsteen's Mansion On The Hill?

I have made my Glastonbury decision (orientation permitting!!).

Sorry Jack but it's The National on The Other Stage on Saturday afternoon. Have a feeling it's going to fucking epic. :D
  • I tried The National when Boxer was released and couldn't get into it at the time.

After reading this thread when it first started, I decided to give them another try and now I think they're incredible. It took me a while to get used to the unusual lyrics (at first I was a bit like "eh?" when I heard "It's a terrible love and I'm walking with spiders.") and the style of their music, but eventually the penny dropped.

After giving High Violet a few runs I listened to Alligator, which is going to take some getting used to I think, and then re-visited Boxer. Boxer sounded just so much better than I remember it. So I've got two fantastic albums and one very good one all at the same time.

    Result!! :D

That would be on the Virginia EP.
  • their songs have a way of worming into your brain. some of the lyrics and the singer get pretty annoying, but i'm really liking them for the most part.

I'd definitely suggest checking them out on this tour if you are a fan. I saw them Saturday at Sasquatch and they were amazing. The lead singer is definitely one of the best entertainers out there today. The new songs sound great live and they definitely bring it toward the end of their set with some great intensity.

Saw them tonight in philly real good live. I wasn't too familiar with them, only recognized a handful of songs but they put on a damn good show. I need to get their earlier stuff, Boxer and Alligator.

Saw them Thursday night at the House of Blues. This was the 4th time Ive seen these guys. They were clearly not as good as when we saw them last year. It was fun and they sounded tight, but not as good as 09. Just my opinion.

  • Thought this deserved a massive bump!

I'm beginning to realise that High Violet is one of THOSE albums. It has so many layers to it, without being over-complicated and it has a very unassuming quality to it that is completely overwhelming. It's still developing, still blossoming into something of remarkable beauty.
It's gonna be a glorious day...

Thank you to those who recommended this album. It got me into this band and now I love it. Going to see them in September as well. My buddy, who I recommended this album to, puts it in his top 5 all time! Thanks again to all the recommended music I find on this forum. (gaslight anthem, interpol, etc)

probably one of the most beautiful albums released in the last 10 years.
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

So I thought Arcade Fire would swarm to the top of my best of list and knock this album down, but after the early results the nationoal still sit on top.
