Can't wait for this album! If you didn't know, "Bloodbuzz Ohio" is available as a free download on their website, and "Afraid of Everyone" can be found on the internet as well.

I heard the whole album live already (in one night in NYC) and I must say that it is amazing. This will most likely be one of the best albums of the year.

    email from The National today:

Hi everyone! As you may have heard, there is a low quality leak of our new album, High Violet, spreading across the Internet as we speak. We wanted to let you know the New York Times - http://www.nytimes.com - will be streaming the real thing starting Friday April 23rd. We hope you'll take the time to hear the album at its intended level of quality. High Violet will be released by 4AD worldwide on May 10th/11th.

I think I might wait until it's released to listen to it, but I might be eating my words if a better quality version surfaces!

Either way I'm definitely buying this album when it comes out.

what this guy said ... another band coming here soon that I have tickets to see, cannot wait.

I posted pics of their show at Outside Lands somewhere in this forum ...

yeah, a few pics are HERE In "The National Thread" ... seemed like a logical place for them.

i have listened to this album probably 3 or 4 times a day for the past week. This is an unreal album. its a modern day classic, id even say its better than boxer, and boxer is one of my favorite albums of all time. High Violet is an incredible achievement. This is probably the album of the year so far, and will be high on everyone's top albums list even if a better album by another band tops it. The National now are indie rock royalty. One of the most important bands in the scene today.

I couldn't agree with this more. Can't wait to see them twice this summer.

i still am sort of in shock how a band could be this could. boxer was a masterpiece. i havent listened to alligator a ton, but that is the no code or yield for many national fanatics, its the best of their catalogue, in many peoples opinion. and then you have high violet. incredible run of records. how can they be this good? We all sort of put expectations on new records. like if we really enjoyed a previous effort, we want and hope that the new record will be equally good. but for an album to be this good, unreal.

I am absolutely in love with Conversation 16, Bloodbuzz, Vanderlyle, and Afraid Of Everyone.

The national have created something special here. Its a high water mark that will be near impossible for a band to top this year.

The ending to this song is great; it reminds me of the Police.

These clips are of Matt and Aaron talking about the songs in order, it's an interesting watch:

It's a marvel that this album managed to live up to the massive expectations I placed on it. I was fully expecting it to be the album of the year and it likely is. I've listened to it at least 15 times now, usually a few times a day, and won't be stopping soon. Can't wait to buy a physical copy.

Top 3 songs: Bloodbuzz Ohio, England, Lemonworld

This album is fucking brilliant. I'm going to end up listening to it non-stop for a while.
It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.

thats the part i cant wrap my head around. how a band could have 3 records as brilliant as Alligator, Boxer and High violet, in consecutive order.

My expectations were insanely high. Boxer changed my life. One of my favorite albums of all time. So anything less than that on a follow up record would have been a letdown. this band had to be a modern day classic and masterpiece, for me, and it sounds like you had the same sort of lofty expectations. the insane thing is they accomplished this, and exceeded it. High Violet may even be better than Boxer, so yeah, for my money, The National are pretty much gods.

I can't remember the last time a band released 3 consecutive albums as good as The National's last 3. I still think 'Alligator' is their best one but they are all tremendous. 'High Violet' is right up there with Beach House's 'Teen Dream' for album of the year.

I really like Teen Dream but I would say it's behind both High Violet and Broken Social Scene's Forgiveness Rock Record.
