moral of the story, make sure your shit is legal before you do it...or do what my parents have always done and not get permits for anything

    excellent point, norm.
they don't know shit if you don't tell 'em.
fence/garage permits? not in this lifetime.

just last year i installed a runway for my jets.
my pilots smuggling stuff from south america gotta land somewhere.
i told my neighbors to kiss my ass.

years ago, I lived in the wilds of colorado. one day, a buddy and I had gone to denver to do some shopping. we were both pissing in a parking garage and my buddy looks at me and says, "man, we've turned into animals." yes, we had. when I moved back to civilization, it took a few years to realize the world wasn't one big urinal

it's weird. my fence is the normal 5-5.5ft. the rest of his fence is that as well. only the fence between our yards is 3ft.

neither of us hang out back much so not a big deal. however, with the old neighbors over there, the old lady (45-50 and long past her prime) woudl sun bathe a few times each summer. :?

last big windstorm here loosened 4 posts in the fence...so the fence would lean on our side, we pushed it to their side...they took down the slats, so I went out to say, 'hey, we can help you pay for half the fence, just let us know'.

They replaced the fence and never came over...it's all good, we have the 'ugly side' of the fence anyway.

it's his fence, he can pay for it if he wants to replace it.

if i'm getting involved, i'd just build a fence on my side of the line.

that would bug me...you spend time grilling out there, though, right?

could you just finish that side with your own fencing--to match the rest of your yard?
