Hi everyone! I e-mailed the local visitors bureau about karaoke places on Saturday night. The reply e-mail said that "karaoke isn't very popular in the downtown area on Saturday night". But was given some options.

    Becky’s Downtown 216.621.0055– Sat nights around 9:30p 1762 E18th St. Between Chester & Payne

Bo Loong Chinese Restaurant 216.391.3113 – Sat nights starts around 10p 3922 Saint Clair Ave

I know diddly about either of these places, but thought I would pass it along here. I was also given some ideas for places NOT in downtown.

    Mr. Peabody’s Pub 216.741.1144 – Thur-Sat at 9:30p 4967 Pearl Rd

    Corky’s Place 216.226.9100 – Weds-Sat starts at 10p 13302 Detroit Ave

    Casey Jones Tavern 216.476.1164 – Fri 9:30-2:15a; Sat 10-2:15a http://www.caseyjonestavern.com/entertainment.html

But I'm not sure if everyone wants to venture outside of downtown where we might have to concern ourselves with transportation issues.

tip of advice from a Clevelander:

Don't leave Downtown unless it's for Tremont, Coventry or Ohio City. There are some bad parts of Cleveland. I'm not sure if you will find a bar willing to open up karaoke on Saturday since the Cavs will probably have a playoff game that night. I can almost guarantee you won't find one downtown willing to help out if there is a game that night. This town lives and dies by their sports teams- if there is a home game that night, everyone in every bar within a 20 mile radius of downtown will be watching it.

Your best bet is Coventry. Coventry is a great neighborhood, sorta known for it's artistic side. The only problem is you have to go through East Cleveland/ Glenville to get there- so you might not make it there alive (this is where Bone Thugs are from).

You MIGHT be able to get a place like Dive Bar or Golics to help you out, but again, if there is a Cavs game, everything will be on lockdown. Everyone goes downtown for those and it's the bar's best opportunity to pack the house

thanks ThuderDan for your continued advice

I agree with Anotherclone, leaving downtown to go to a bar may be difficult

Any advice from the locals on where to park that day? I'll be doing the Indians vs. Tigers baseball game too so I'd be up for parking at either place if it's cheaper.

    Just an FYI....

While in Philadelphia.... we had an "off-night" karoake bar party DURING the World Series. Now i'm pretty sure philly fans are just as crazy as cleveland fans, especially against the Yankees. We found a bar and by the time our group of 40 people showed up we just waited until the game was over and then everyone "non-pj" just got up and left. We had our run of the place the entire night.

if you want to eat at Cleveland's best place eat at Lola on East 4th. It's Michael Symon's (the Iron Chef) place. You will need reservations on a Saturday night. You don't need to dress up, but you shouldn't wear shorts and flip flops. Its on East 4th street right across from the Q. It's great, and everything on the menu has a Cleveland story behind it because he is from here.

Other than that, if you don't want to go there, Greenhouse Tavern is good and right next door. Momacho is good but it's not downtown, it was featured on Food Network. If you just go to East 4th you should find something to your liking, but I would do Lola. Im pretty sure you will have to do it Saturday because they aren't open on Sundays

other than that, make sure you get stadium mustard on a hot dog

there are lots all over charging anywhere from $25-10.

If you can, google maps East 6th street. It's a street full of meters where you can park for free. Few people know this and it's a short walk to the Jake. There is also another street next to the key tower. They don't ticket meters on the weekends so you can park for free.

Parking in Cleveland is not a problem. Ironically that is the problem with Cleveland and why most out of towners find it ugly. Back in the day when metro Cleveland was booming (I believe it was the 5th largest city in the USA), they were looking for a way to get more people downtown to shop in the stores, so they tore down a bunch of buildings and made them surface lots. Now Cleveland is stuck with a ton of surface lots that kill the urban landscape.

    dear ThunderDan

what is the probability that I will find a bar playing the Wings/Sharks Game 5 Sat night at 10?

Will there be a basketball game on that night in Cleveland and if so, what time will it start?

Any good hockey spots that can reasonably be expected to be playing that game?

    sincerely, smarchee

  • There will be no Cavaliers game on Saturday night. They will play Game 4 in Boston on Sunday at 3:30. Needless to say, many bars will be packed prior to the concert with Cavs fans so that will be either great or terrible depending on your opinion.

Don't stray away from MapRoom for good cheap eats. They have some very excellent pizza options there.

Right across the street from MapRoom is Brasa Grill...excellent Brazilizan Steakhouse for the heavy eaters.

The block directly to the east of where MapRoom is located is where you're find most of the "clubs" in Cleveland, but there are (in my opinion) enough options within a 5 minute walk of MapRoom that you shouldn't really need to leave the immediate area to find something you'll be able to tolerate for the evening.
