Yup, if people really knew what the GOOD stuff tasted like, they'd more seriously consider becoming a vegetarian. Quorn is awesome, and this place in town makes an awesome beer-battered-tofu which is practically identical in texture to Quorn.

    Mmm... beer battered tofu...

    Damn, that looks delicious...

looks and tastes are two different things. ;)

If you can get someone to cook tofu with skill, it has the potential to taste delicious. Just sayin... ;)

If someone made a completely vegetarian version of it (beer battered tofu is pretty darned similar) then I'd totally try it... and I'm on a diet. :D

Vegetarian version of fried chicken and bacon. Now I've heard everything.

Veggie chicken is really good and hard to tell apart. The bacon is not as similar though.

I've had battered tofu - in a vegan restaurant in Philly last fall. It was awesome - had it with waffles.

Vegan bacon: 8 oz. tempeh, sliced bacon-style. Marinate for at least an hour to overnight in: 3/4 c. veg. broth, mixed with a tbsp of liquid smoke, tbsp ketchup, tbsp soy sauce, tbsp cider vinegar, couple pressed garlic cloves, 3 tbsp olive oil, 1 tbsp maple syrup. Fry it in oil till somewhat browned. Good on sandwiches or wraps, or just plain.

way too many variables in that though... potential... getting someone with skill... etc

Tofu and quorn are repulsive... one of my best friends is a veggie and he thinks the same... he says the clue is in the name 'Veggie'... so he only eats veggies. ;)
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

i haven't seen it for a while and forgot the brand but a store around here used to sell tofu crumbles with mexican seasoning, you just had to heat it up for a little bit and was so good, now they just have the crumbles with no seasoning :(

Last August, we wrote about the "Double Down," a mysteriously tempting (and potentialy lethal) new food item being tested by KFC. For those coming late to the story, it's bacon and cheese sandwiched between two pieces of fried chicken. And now, many months later, I'll finally be able to get my hands on one.

KFC announced the decision to go live with the Double Down yesterday, but we weren't sure they weren't playing a April Fools gag. But no, they truly are going nationwide with the delicacy on April 12.

The sandwich will be available in two forms. The Original Recipe sandwich will set you back about 540 calories, 32g of fat and 1380mg of sodium. The not-as-bad-for-you Grilled Double Down totals 460 calories, 23g of fat and 1430mg of sodium.

Seitan is a much more versatile, more tasty, more textured product to cook with. Unfortunately not everyone can eat it, because it's made with wheat gluten.

When I went on one of my vegan trips years ago, I learned to cook with tofu and other vegan dishes, and it's not so difficult as it may seem. Asian cuisine in particular makes it easy to cook tofu.

Doesn't frying tofu (or anything) make it unhealthy?

When people are eating fried Snickers, I don't worry too much about fried tofu. 8-)

Heck yeah, I always have coconut milk, Thai red curry, and fish sauce in my pantry - plus limes, basil, and assorted veggies in my fridge, so whenever I have a yearning for Thai food (which is almost always) I can whip up a batch on my wok within minutes!

Nice. Do you need a dinner guest tonight? 8-)

and for the record, this is totally unrelated but I feel I have to voice it because my girlfriend is obessed with Indian cuisine.

I far prefer Thai curry to Indian curry...
