I heard Bad Brains years ago. About 1989 or 1990. Long time ago. There was a lad at my college who was into them. I can't remember what they sound like now though.

I've just been listening to the album 'Cease to Begin' these past couple of days. I really like it. Great album.

This is much better than their early music, which sounds nice, but too derivative of MMJ in my opinion. But now it sounds like they've established their own territory, and I'm already lovin this song after one listen. Brilliant video too! Thanks for posting!

  • I'm super jealous of all of you getting to see BoH opening for PJ. PJ is the tops of tops bands and BoH is one of my most recent favorites. I've seen them now 4 times and each time they improved. Outside Lands BoH was spectacular. Sometimes it takes the lead singers voice a song or three to warm up.

I agree. Too many wishy-washy slow songs on the new album. Too many songs with no balls and no tempo. There's about 3 decent tracks on it. I wish they'd stick to the more melodic, upbeat, southern rock songs and cut out all the navel-gazing trite.

The new album is a snooze fest with some of the worst lyrics I've heard in a long time. I was so disappointed. I listen to the first two weekly, and didn't want to put this on for a second listen.
  • havent heard the new album yet, but i am a huge fan, i loved both records, and have seen these guys live. anyways, alot of people seem to be complaining about the wishy washy nature of the new songs. funny, cause thats what i always loved about BOH and it seemed to me thats what this band was about from the get go. St Augustine, The Funeral, Our Swords, The First Song, these are songs that make you want to lie in a field of wheat and grass and just stare up at the clouds and sky. and on the second album Ode to LRC

I love this band. i love the vocals. i love the way it makes me feel. i love the vibe of the music. No Ones gonna love you, Detlef, Window Blues. All those songs are sort of wishy washy, maybe what others would call "wimp rock" or whatnot, but this band was never about melting peoples faces with guitar solos.

Their first ever single was Great Salt lake, and if they stick with that strategy in general I will be pretty happy. that song is everything i love about BOH
  • hell the funeral alone is the sort of navel gazing stuff you mention. so much so that the commercial for that car that everyone remembers that used the "ohhh" part of the song, features a girl staring up at the night sky, through a cars sun roof as that song plays.

these guys are metallica or lamb of god. And to be honest thats why i like them. this is melodic, harmony based, very beautiful music.

I like The Funeral and Great Salt Lake because these are great songs that also have some punch, but unfortunately they also have too many completely lame, flat songs, and the new album is full of them.

i agree. get back to us after you've heard it. those songs are 10x better. this album is lacking balls (for lack of a better term).

damn, the concert last night was incredible!
Some of the slower songs off their second album really translate well live. They come across with a lot more energy live.

It made me excited to get the new album... unfortunatley the reviews here are not so good, but i'll pick it up anyways.

it's awesome to see a band that plays kinda simple stuff. Spometimes simple is good, especially when you have a frontman with a sick voice like this guy.

I take back what I said before. After a few more listens I really like the new album now. There are 3 crap songs on it IMO ('Infinite Arms', 'Evening Kitchen' & 'Trudy') but the rest of the album is really good.

My favourite tracks are 'Way Back Home', 'Older', & 'Laredo'.

    The album's definitely a grower.

I've always liked to Cease to Begin over Everything All the Time but I think I'm starting to Everything All the Time now. There are no fillers on this album and it flows so well.

Bummer about the new album if its what you guys are saying. I haven't heard it yet but I guess I'll get to preview some of the songs live later this week ;)
