While investigators don't have a motive yet, retaliation has been raised as a possibility, Dever said. The day before the shooting, the victim's brother, Phil Krentz, reported drug smuggling activity on the ranch to the Border Patrol.
Agents found 290 pounds of marijuana on the ranch and followed tracks to where they found and arrested eight illegal immigrants, said Border Patrol Tucson Sector deputy chief Robert Boatright. None were prosecuted because of a lack of evidence. They were all in custody when the shooting occurred, he said.

Maybe someday a government that is elected will do something about this, although I doubt one will anytime soon.

Legalize marijuana. That'll take care of the problem.

That makes no sense. They will just run cocaine/heroin/whatever else up the pipe. That is not the answer.

So, what is your solution to stop the cross country drug running?

About 20 old F-14's armed to the teeth with old military ordnance and use them to patrol the borders,
the drug lords across the border have a endless supply of fire power and the only way to put a dent
in drug trafficing across the border is to out gun them and a old F-14 would do just that. :D

I'd bring the National Guard back from Iraq and stick them on the southern border.

That border and the people crossing it are more of a threat to this country than Iraq.

If we cut off the border completely as some of you think, do you realize the impact on our economy?

Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example. Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a law-breaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy. - Louis Brandeis

relax, obama is tackling immigration next. assuming the republicans don't play ball again, which they probably won't since it is a southern issue and they won't even help their own if it means government involvement and increased taxes to patrol said borders....but yeah, blame the government...

I agree... I'm not crazy about closing off the boarders for undocumented workers, but I'm all for cracking down on the drugs going across our boarder.

Legalize pot, and focus our efforts stopping the smuggling of the hardcore drugs.

It's such a shame that they bring drugs into America and then have to stand around wondering why nobody will buy them.

The war on drugs has to be fought on two fronts - you've got to take care of supply and demand at the same time, or else you'll never come close to fixing the problem.
And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.

that's true, we have to start somewhere and cutting off the supply will cut down the demand.
it's sad that there will always be drug problems of some sort.

obviously the US government has no intention or desire to do this since we are protecting 1 of the biggest, if not the biggest, heroin trafficker in the world with our tax money in afghanistan

I don't know how to stop it. Do you think cutting off the supply completely will help, or is education and treatment at home a better option?

Drug trafficking and illegal crossings, especially via Arizona and Texas are lucrative enterprises for the landowners, businesses and officials along the US border. 90% of the time, the only reason to kill is greed or betrayal, because drugs and illegals are replaceable. Why do you think there is no outcry from small businesses to large corporations for immigration reform!!! Hell, I-10 and I-95 are the drug toll roads of America [AZ, TX and FL], nothing like untraceable money to make you look the other way, or stop the construction of a wall.
SIN EATERS--We take the moral excrement we find in this equation and we bury it down deep inside of us so that the rest of our case can stay pure. That is the job. We are morally indefensible and absolutely necessary.

I don't think you can cut off the drug supply of any illegal drug completly. And everytime you make it smaller by those making record setting drug busts, all you do is increase the price that the dealers can sell what they still have for. I mean everytime I see one of those police press conferences where they have a bunch of bricks of coke laid out on a table, all I can think of is how the price of cocaine just went up and the dealers and suppliers are going to make more money.

Exactly. So I think you need to TRY to slow demand.

have you seen the documentary the american drug war by kevin booth?

    http://americandrugwar.com/

i see he has a new movie coming out, too

anyway, the american drug war is really good and takes a look at how drugs are treated in the us, canada and the netherlands. it says the netherlands actually has a lower % of teens and young adults that smoke pot than the us and lower hard drug use.

it's ridiculous to think we spend tens of billions a year on the war on drugs on top of what the states pay
