A few things need to be pointed out -
Even if it were true about the US survival statistics, nobody dies in the UK or Canada for lack of health insurance, whereas 44,000 die every year in the USA. It's not the quality of health care being provided, it's the lack of access that's the problem.
Secondly, using the yardstick of having a lot of business people in government as some standard for success is ludicrous on its face. Last I checked, Bill Clinton presided over a booming economy and he scored near the bottom at 39%. So did JFK, and Teddy Roosevelt. And the top marginal tax rates under that infamous socialist Eisenhower were almost 90%.
Moreover, George W Bush, who scored second at 53%, not only ran the economy into the ground, but even before being President he ran 3 companies into bankruptcy too.
This is why the whole concept of "fiscal conservative" is useless:
I wasn't trying to stirr up a argument I just thought that the stats given to me by a friend were interesting
if they were accurate, as far as health care change in the us goes I think it's a big sham for the insurance
companys to make even more money, not that I know this for fact but the bottom line will be the working class
paying more than we already do to help support the people that don't have insurance and with that in mind we know who the winner's will be..the insurance company's,maybe I'm wrong but like I said the bottom line is and always will be money.

Oh I'm completely with you on that. I just felt that the insinuations in that forwarded email were way off the mark - that a lot of Americans were surviving and getting treatment more easily than their counterparts in Canada and the UK, and therefore there was something much worse about the health care systems in the latter countries... when we all know that it's rubbish. (I even question the numbers cited there as accurate).
This new health care bill isn't particularly great... but it's a decent first step, I think."It's not hard to own something. Or everything. You just have to know that it's yours, and then be willing to let it go." - Neil Gaiman, "Stardust"0 -

A recent "Investor's Business Daily" article provided very interesting
statistics from a survey by the United Nations International Health
Organization.
Percentage of men and women who survived a cancer five years after
diagnosis:
U.S. 65%
England 46%
Canada 42%
Percentage of patients diagnosed with diabetes who received treatment
within six months:
U.S. 93%
England 15%
Canada 43%
Percentage of seniors needing hip replacement who received it within six
months:
U.S. 90%
England 15%
Canada 43%
Percentage referred to a medical specialist who see one within one month:
U.S. 77%
England 40%
Canada 43%
Number of MRI scanners (a prime diagnostic tool) per million people:
U.S. 71
England 14
Canada 18
Percentage of seniors (65+), with low income, who say they are in
"excellent health":
U.S. 12%
England 2%
Canada 6%
I don't know about you, but I don't want "Universal Healthcare" comparable
to England or Canada .
VERY INTERESTING! the percentage of each past president's cabinet who had
worked in the private business sector prior to their appointme nt to the
cabinet.
You know what the private business sector is... a real life business,
not a government job.
Here are the percentages.
T. Roosevelt........ 38%
Taft...................... 40%
Wilson ................. 52%
Harding.................49%
Coolidge.............. 48%
Hoover............ ..... 42%
F. Roosevelt......... 50%
Truman.......... ....... 50%
Eisenhower........... 57%
Kennedy.............. 30%
Johnson................ 47%
Nixon.................... 53%
Ford..................... 42%
Carter................... 32%
Reagan................. 56%
GH Bush...... ........ 51%
Clinton ................. 39%
GW Bush............. 55%
And the winner is..............Obama.................
8% !!!
Yep! That's right! Only Eight
Percent!!!..the least by far of the last 19
presidents!! And these people are
trying to tell our big corporations how
to run their business? They know what's
best for GM...Chrysler... Wall
Street... and you and me?
How can the president of a major
nation and society...the one with the
most successful economic system in
world history... stand and talk about
business when he's never worked for
one?.. or about jobs when he has never
really had one??!
And neither has 92% of his senior staff
and closest advisers..! They've
spent most of their time in academia,
government and/or non-profit
jobs....or as "community organizers"
and yet we are ranked #37 by the World Health Organization....behind all those other countries
Even Cuba is ranked ahead of the US by the WHO.And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.0 -

I'll take a balanced budget and a blowjob over business experience.Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V0 -

If the answer is 'Yes'... then, logic states that the Bush Administration and the Conservative Republican Congress are responsible for the Mortgage meltdown and the Wall Street default swap disaster, right?Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

Actually, I do not think I am, I just think that the private sector is very much the same as or own society. Society needs rule of law without it chaos would ensue, I am sure you would not argue with that as a general point. Well the private sector needs laws too in the form of regulations with a strong enforcement arm. Without regulation, portions of the private sector will continue to rape and pillage the middle and lower classes until we are all stricken into poverty. That is all I am saying we do not need to do everything for the average person but we do need to stop providing every advantage to businesses at our own expense. Is that socialism? If so….screw it count me in I’m a socialist!0 -

Actually, I think this quotation speaks volumes about who you are and your general view in this conversation.
please tell me if I am wrong but I think you are saying, Look political parties don't really matter, if you have enough of something money, power, connections whatever really as long as it is something the power players want then you will be ok. On the other hand if you lack those things sorry and good luck to you!
