Rep Slaughter gets assassination threat against her family

Oh. My. Freaking. God.
Rochester/Niagara Falls, N.Y. -- The same day a brick crashed through her Niagara Falls office, Rep. Louise Slaughter (D) says her staff discovered an assassination threat aimed at her family members. The Democratic headquarters in Rochester was also targeted.
No one was inside when the brick was hurled through the Democratic Patry Headquarters on University Avenue. Attached was a note quoting conservative Barry Goldwater: “Exremism [sic] in defense of liberty is no vice”.
Read the rest of it... we're not just looking at crazy. Coupled with the attack on Rep Giffords' office, this is increasingly, terrifyingly, reminiscent of Kristallnacht.

I was afraid of this. It's just completely insane - an assault on liberty, really.0

I think comparing these two events to the pogrom of Kristallnacht is a little extreme.2009: Philly 3 & 4
2010: Newark, MSG I
2011: EV Philly
2012: Philly MIA
2013: Wrigley, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Philly 1 & 2, Baltimore0 -
Yeah seriously.therk17 wrote:I think comparing these two events to the pogrom of Kristallnacht is a little extreme.CONservative governMENt
Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example. Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a law-breaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy. - Louis Brandeis0 -
this shit must stop right now.
this is out of control. seriously, what is threatening or god forbid killing any politician going to accomplish? she already placed her vote and she can't change it now.
it is completely irresponsible for beck, hannity, fox, and fat rush and anyone from either side to continue to stoke the flames of "hatriotism".. i believe we are getting into the territory where freedom of speech is dangerous...like when it suggests and encourages violent reprisals.."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

Huh? Who has suggested or encouraged violent reprisals? Please list instances, and even quotes if you have them.
And the comparison to Kristallnacht in the first post is just embarrassing and only serves to highlight your lack of knowledge on the subject.0 -

while i am not a teabagger, and politically, philosophically disagree with them on everything, i do like to see people pissed off and angry, in a political sense. From a logical standpoint, politicians need to wake up. at a certain point you gotta wake up. When obama sends a bunch of 18 year olds to die in some illegal and immoral war he can expect blowback, and one can understand the families who go off their rocker, or are unbelieveably pissed off about this, or extending it further, when that soldier inevitably dies, one can understand the anger a parent, a girlfriend, boyfriend, wife, husband, kids etc.. feel at this senseless taking of a life for a meaningless cause.
The situation is inevitable in a system that cares nothing for the common citizen.
its inevitable.
While I know nothing about the situation in this case and as I said, I am not a teabagger. I do think, actions need to be taken. I have long suggested that, senators and congress should expect every office they own to burn to the ground as a result of their non action on ending the war. this is just the other side of that, the other political side.
obama is a failure.0 -
What a mistake. Nobody likes thugs. And nobody wants to elect a thug or a politician who is going to be beholden to thugs for re-election.
Republicans can't defeat Obama alone. If they could, he'd never have been elected in the first place. The Independents are the ones with the real voting power. And I think these people are mis-calculating if they think vandalism and threats are going to win them supporters or further their cause. Maybe locally, within their like-minded community, they'll be empowered. But overall, on a national level, the victims will get the sympathy. I'd bet anything that the majority of the country will be disgusted by this type of behavior.
EDIT: Check it out, Gallup poll...only 19% of adults are actually "angry" about healthcare. They may be vocal, but they're a minority. http://www.gallup.com/poll/126929/Slim- ... ssage.aspx0 -

while i agree with the premise that the intolerant, racist, backwards teabaggers dont represent america. i do think its a mistake to suggest as alot of people do, that the hatred of obama is only from racists and rednecks. obama quite possibly could be more hated than W was. Bush had the hatred of the left. but did racists and rednecks ever turn on him? Obama has the hatred of the crazies on the right, but also has to deal with the hatred from people like me, a leftist, a radical left winger. Obama is hated on both sides. That isnt going to change. Obama messed up big time. Its natural that if you continue to create policy that harms people, you can expect blowback. thats not an idealogical statement. its fact. every action has another action in response.0 -
i have yet to see a real expose from any of the left, on the anger on the left for obama, or the lack of it, from the mainstream party side. American citizens didnt january 20, 2009 wake up and say, "oh obamas president now, I support the war now". The war is as unpopular as ever, and we have a president who is as deaf to the pleas, and the anger of those who oppose it, the majority of america by now, as that guy from texas ever was. Obama has pissed a HUGE number of people off. Just because he aint bush, doesnt mean i support squat in terms of his agenda. Ultimately these politicians need to start acting. ending the wars. dealing with the climate crisis in substantial and real ways. helping those millions of people right now who are without a job. dealing with our race problem in a more substantial way than making some speech. dismantling the criminal justice system, and putting in its place one that isnt inherently racist and classist. putting in place a real health care system, one thats free. one where if you lose a leg in an accident, and you are poor, that you dont have to stay home and suffer because you cant afford to pay. thats real change. real hope. not the phony crap people bought into in 2008.
the longer no one does anything about it, the angrier and angrier people get.0 -

these "conservative" pundits got van jones fired, acorn shut down, and dr tiller executed because they played on the anger of their listeners. what is to say they can not get a congressman or president killed as well?

Unfortunately, "stupid" plus "anger" is usually a bad combo. And somebody ends up getting hurt.Rock me Jesus, roll me Lord...

Not to mention walk on water and turn water into wine. Don't the dems control the house and senate, at least until November. This guy has added another 2tril to our national debt. That took W 8yrs to accomplish and it was 1trl. Where is the transparency that was promised. His admin said we needed to pass the stimulus pckg and unempl. wouldn't go above 8%, it is now 10%+.0 -

Your always trying to blame beck, hannity, fox, and rush for everything......Just like when the Census worker was thought to have been murdered you tried to blame them for that....come to find out the guy commited suicide....you need to chill with the hatred and the false accusations....
when those people stoke anger the next response is action, and action is usually violence. when a commentator pushes their listeners to a boiling point, if violence occurs they should be held responsible.

Action does NOT lead to Violence! Damn! anyone that is conservative needs to be responsible but no one on the left has to....you don't think Acorn was wrong?
I'm wondering were you get your information from because I would like to check it out....
Or the ELF burning houses, or that nut fm Acorn threatening people in the last election in Philly. The left calls it cival disobedience I believe.0 -

Haha...the funny thing is many consider the people/groups targeted on that site to not be hateful and even brutally violent at times. If it's violence you're on a witch hunt for, then look no further than some of those groups listed.0
