I agree with you. especially The End. I think that song is lame. It was OK for the EV solo shows, but I don't want to hear it again at the PJ shows

Well, I guess I would say, first, Pearl Jam should play whatever they want to play.

But.... at the same time, when they got in the habit of playing Just Breathe, The End, and even Red Mosquito every night, it did sort of go against part of why we love Pearl Jam setlists... the unpredictability. Now, as someone else said, I have yet to see any Backspacer tracks live, and I will be seeing PJ twice, so I would happy to see those songs played, but I do agree, playing the same first encore every night, takes a little bit (just a little bit) away from what makes seeing PJ live different and wonderful.

I get why they did it, cause they had a string section at many shows last year and utilized the songs. I do agree that hearing them night after night (LA 1-4) was a little much.

i agree...just breathe can be played anytime in a set, they don't need to do both of them every show and they definitely don't need to do them together as an encore...that's when they should be picking up momentum not slowing things down.

i like both songs but i agree that shows get a little predictable and cheesy when you do the same thing every night.
This show, another show, a show here and a show there.

Ehhhhhhhh.... you would be wrong! I could happily live without hearing them live, to me it disrupts the energy of the show. I don't WANT to sit down, tyvm! :D

  • well you definitely will be hearing Just Breathe almost every night.

look at it this way. you could be getting No More War instead.

I don't mind hearing Just Breathe every night, especially with strings. I just don't want the same encores like last tour. Hearing Just Breathe, The End, Red Mosquito w/ Ben Harper, and Free Jazz in the same order in the same part of the show got old.

I say keep 'em! Especially in Europe!

Not all of us get to see Pearl Jam play loads of time per tour, I'll be seeing them once this year (my first time) and I'd really like to hear as many Backspacer songs as possible.

After the album tour is over, most of the non-single tracks disappear, so this show could be my only chance to hear them live! :D

well always an exception ;) I think Ed's soft side can be appreciated especially with such beautiful thoughts and lyrics- Have you noticed how he really gets into them. I find that moving in a different way- and yes there's no sitting ever not even for these.

Since no one else will say it....I wil!!!l ASS!! ;-)

I am gay for both of them and predictable or not, will take them every night ...So many other unpredictable things happen every night, that these can be the new EF as far as I am concerned! Maybe it is just where I am at in my life right now and both of these songs hit home for me, I am not sure, but.... Once again...ASS!! ;-)

Like most people said, don't lose them, just mix them up a little, not in order, 1st encore, every night

I don't mind the songs, but it's such a high to be at a concert, I don't like anything that turns down the dial on the energy & excitement.

Exactly... and JB is a single so we'll probably get it every night. Fine - that's OK. But then mix The End in and out of the sets like any other song off the album. Every night just takes away some of the fun of the encore - thats when you can get some really crazy or fun songs and definitely unpredictable.

I think you're both. You're an ass for using the rolling-eyes smiley face like a high school girl would but you also have a point because both songs are a bore.

I agree to an extent. Play them, but not every night. on the 08 tour hearing "who you are" "all night" "WMA" and especially " No More" every night was a bit much.

After hearing Just Breathe 7 times in the States, the one thing missing so far is to do it with that special someone back over this side of the pond.

Kraven...what's up dude?! what shows are you doing in May?

to the OP.........LOSE your tickets this time around!!!

I wouldn't want you to have to be disappointed when Ed busts out the strings on your punk ass!:lol::lol:
  • I agree wth keeping them because I have yet to hear any of Backspacer live.

Also I really liked Just Breathe before the radio humped it into submisssion. As for as The End some of the lyrics are hard hitting and some of them are really simplistic for Ed so I go back and forth with that one. I do love singing along with it though.

I also want to see what they do for the six piece string section in each city, will they bring people or use the local symphonic performers?

Bottom line St. Louis will by my 17th show and I'd take about anything I've never heard live at this point. Although Betterman and Evenflow I have come to love because it's a good solid 6 to 8 minutes to take a pee break or grab a brew without feeling like your missing anything.

I think they should just keep the string section (i nearly cried seeing "parting ways" with a strings section) and lose the tunes they signed them on for :P They both sound like movie songs (not that thats a bad thing) i just think they make better songs in context than in a setlist... No one likes a set killer ;)
