  • O.K. Kansas City folks we will be arriving Sunday afternoon. What should we do in Kansas City with no car. We will be staying at the Westin Crowne something (Center or Plaza) - the one with the group rate.

I was looking at the WWI Museum.

My husband would like the Harley factory but that seems like a long way to go on the city bus system.

    Anything else?

The WWI Muesem is very cool and is walkable from your hotel. You will be close to Union Station and Crown Center, but just a bit further north is an area called the Crossroads Arts District, with cool local shops, restaurants/bars and art galleries. http://www.kccrossroads.org/
Also, some of the best KC BBQ in town is located in the Freight House, just north of Union Station, Jack Stack BBQ. Yum. The Harley factory IS a long way to go, and our bus system is not that great. It would probably take forever.

I'm happy to help with other KC questions!

Thanks for the info. I am looking forward to the WWI museum. We will probably not go to the Harley museum since logistically it sounds like a hassle. As to BBQ, I am a vegetarian and I live/work in Southern Illinois/Western Kentucky where there are bbq places on every corner. Needless to say I avoid anything related to BBQ. The Crossroads Arts District sounds cool. Looking forward to meeting you at the pre-party and/or pre-pre-party.

Sorry, so many people ask about KC BBQ, that I find that I just automatically go there! There are many places in the Crossroads District that would be vegetarian friendly, especially the Blue Bird Bistro (it's a bit further west). Also, be sure and visit Christopher Elbow for amazing chocolate!

  • I am heading to KC for the first time. Flying solo from Tampa but geting ticket from fellow 10c memeber(mcstar). Staying at Hotel Phillips and getting in monday around 1200. Planing on getting a steak at 801 Chophouse at around 500pm then heading over to the preparty. I work in the steakhouse world so a good KC strip is a must. Would love to share some good wine with anyone that wants to meet up with me before the preparty. After the show its off to any bar that is between the venue and my hotel.

First of all, we locals welcome you to KC, and hope you have a nice time in our fair city!

Second of all, the pre-party is from 3-5:30, and during that time 10% of the bar's proceeds are going to our charities. If you can come over and have a drink BEFORE your steak dinner, we'd sure appreciate it! 801 is just around the corner from Johnny's Tavern, where the pre-party is being held.

As for bars after the show, there are a ton of them right across the street in the Power & Light District....

Close to the Arena would be Jack Stack Barbecue (freight house), that’s where I’ll be before the show, less than a mile from the Sprint Center. If you got the means of transportation I would try Arther Bryant’s or Gates.

  • Sounds great meet up for pre-party at 330-500 then head over to 801 for steak and wine then off to the show sounds like a plan. If anyone is interest I can make a res or I was just going to pull up a stool at the bar.

I just had lunch at Jack Stack yesterday! I am hoping that they will come through with a donation for our raffle/silent auction for the fundraiser. Jack Stack is my favorite, but I also love Oklahoma Joe's (if you have transportation).

Oh, and the President is great. Very, very close to the Power & Light District and the Sprint Center. BUT don't eat BBQ in the P&L--go to Jack Stack instead.

I don't know much about disc golf, but this site lists all the courses in KC...

As for local brews, most bars in town serve Boulevard, which is made right here in KC. My favorite is their Unfiltered Wheat, but it's all good!
    http://www.blvdbeer.com/index.cfm

Most of the true "brewpubs" are further out and not close to downtown. I like 75th Street Brewery myself, but you will need a car to get there.

    Hope this helps!
