How many of those fuckers are killed a year, so we can deep fry their asses, and eat them out of a bucket?

    I agree.

I stopped eating 100% of meat, stopped wearing leather, even eating marshmallow (made with animal skeletons) about 18 years ago.

    Humans are seriously fucked up.

It's like Cheech & Chong's song "Save The Whales"..................

    Save the whales,
Hey big fat funky mama save those whales,
    Shoot the Seals

Save the factory farmed animals, whatever country they are in.

Agreed, and I would personaly much rather hunt humans than animals. If any species needs a good culling... and besides, soylent green is delicious. People are just far too big of pussies to have predators in their midst naturally controlling animal populations.

Does the EU even have any grounds to stand on when it comes to being outraged about this? I mean in the UK fox hunting still takes place, and in Spain they still do Bullfighting. Both of those so called "sports" are way more cruel than seal hunting, and on top of that they are viewed as sports, where as at least people hunting seals do it for food and to make money. Fox hunting is just a bunch of rich dudes riding around on horses watching their dogs kill foxes.

well ... hypocrisy is a funny thing ... really, it shouldn't matter what some other countries do ... the questions Canadians need to ask is whether or not we consider this cull in line with our social make up ... for me it really comes down to how much suffering these pups are enduring ... and i say this as someone who typically buys naturally raised/organic meats not only for health but with the understanding that the slaughter process is more humane ...

Being Canadian, I am ashamed at the way this has been allowed to continue for all these years, without at least finding a more humane way to do it if it does in fact 'need' to be done, as people claim. It reminds me of The Cove, where 'tradition's' are getting in the way of compassion and humane treatment of animals. I agree that the senseless slaughtering of any animal in any country is wrong and needs to be corrected.

Some people just love to kill. It's in their blood. These people frighten me, because killing animals with such disregard means that it wouldn't be much of a stretch to kill people the same way.

Exactly. You'd think in this day and age that they could have found a humane way to kill these animals rather than smashing their skulls with an ice-pick. But then some people here would get a kick out of it. And they're no different to dear, right? They're just animals, or objects to some people.

Clearly, leather and beef aren't good enough for some people.

I was in 5th grade when I first saw this horrific sight.

We were in class and the film was about baby seals.

I remember seeing that first pick enter the head of a helpless baby seal.

I had to leave the room. This was 1973ish....
Fifth grade? yikes. why would they show that to kids? I mean...did they show you video from all kinds of slaughterhouses, or did they just pick this particular industry? Was this curriculum related or a teacher bringing his own stuff into a classroom?

See....I have to wonder why the Seal hunt gets so much more press than any other kind of cull or big hunt the world over.... If it bleeds it leads, right? This makes great tv....blood shows well on those cute lil water-puppies, and all that snow n ice around them....
comparatively....the seal hunt doesn't deserve to be an annual debate dominating airwaves. I see more about the plight of the seals from mainstream sources than say...the plight of uh....say.....africa?

i don't see your point ... my point is that we are all hypocrites ... but if it took someone or some nation to have a perfectly clean record based on some moral standard - no one would be able to criticize anyone ... so, saying the EU can't criticize because some nations whale doesn't hold merit for me ...
  • Those damn East Coasters and Acadians!!!!

The inhumane way they trick those pretty lobsters into those traps.

The inhumae way they put a pretty cow down in a slaughter house.

The inhumane way pretty chickens are packed into a warehouse.

Those inhumane Cajun's serving pretty crocodile in New Orleans.

Those inhumane Sushi houses selling pretty eel.

Those trolling boats with their km long nets catching everything and anything and then just discarding the pretty dead fish they don't want.

I feel so ashamed to be Canadian today. But at least I'm warm in my white fur jacket. :D

And a quick edit: Will people complain when the pups die because they have no ice to hang out on? Poor little things drowning in the dreaded ocean. That ocean not even giving them a chance. But on the plus side we could just pull the carcass from the water and the pelt won't have any blood on them. So I guess the EU will open up their trade/buying in a couple of years again.

That may be so, but they have been doing that along time here and seem undeterred by the protest. I would think until they can replace the income it will continue to happen.
