This is freaking disgusting. As an American I can't believe shit like this happens in "The Land of the Free". My favourite part is:

The decision was made, the board of education said, "taking into consideration the education, safety and well-being of our students."

Safety? Well Being? Education? Who is safer due to the fact that two girls can't go to prom together? What is learned by this? My prom last year was a blast! I can't believe it's taken away from students because people are uncomfortable with a lesbian couple.

I guess since the rednecks can't ban mixed-race couples from a prom anymore, they needed a new target.

How many times have you seen girls dancing with each other at proms, parties, clubs and even church-sponsored social events and no one thinks twice about such activities. In fact, most males think its hot, even it appears a little too much lesbian like.

Since, Mississippi currently has the highest teen pregnancy rate, seems like the School Board and other State officials should have more on their agenda then a lesbian going to a prom. A note to the parents who are concerned about exposure to a lesbian - The highest selling soft porn is Girls Gone Wild and most of these girls are not lesbians, so instead of parents worrying about a lesbian at a prom, they should be thinking about Spring Break.
SIN EATERS--We take the moral excrement we find in this equation and we bury it down deep inside of us so that the rest of our case can stay pure. That is the job. We are morally indefensible and absolutely necessary.

Godfather, I have to say your response to my post didn't make sense to me.

I think equality for same-sex couples is coming. It's the next stop on the equal rights train.

Think of it as a gradual journey. Slaves were freed. Women got to vote and work. Black Americans fought to ride anywhere on the bus...and of course I mean MORE than bus riding (!) (I'm just being goofy with words.) ;)

I think same-sex couples are the next group that needs to be unchained from their status as lower-than, less-than, not-as-privileged-as everyone else, don't you?

Can't you see the picture? Can't you see the gradual path? :geek:

(the gay thing). sorry I ran off on a tangent with the human mind, while I don't agree with gay and lesbian

I don't understand what people mean when they say "lesbian or gay lifestyle". Does this somehow imply they lead and do different things in life (outside of their sexual partner) than everyone else? Does this somehow imply that the rest of us heterosexuals are leading productive or model lives? What exactly does this mean? To me, it sounds like a nice, neat way of saying you can legitimize discrimination.

I wasn't pointing or calling you specifically out on this, more was talking in general. It's a very common term used in these type of discussions but very ambiguous in meaning.

    It's about fairness!!

If people are born this way, it's NOT A CHOICE for them. They like who they like. In the same way that you may prefer women or I prefer men. To make it difficult or "wrong" for them to be with the same sex is unfair to the segment of the population that prefers their own sex.

And, it's an unfairness that is not based upon anything but the discomfort, distaste, and irrational fear that has been bred into people by religions and society. It's not that I'd want men trying to pursue my sons, (heaven forbid!!), it's that I think every adult should be allowed to pick the adult they want to marry without it being a problem or an issue for other people to interfere with.

There's no such thing as a "gay and lesbian lifestyle". That trivializes sexuality as if it's something people choose like their hair color. It's the kind of language that predjudiced people use to justify their misguided beliefs.

It's also the kind of language that gay people have used for years.

I haven't read the whole thread so maybe it's been mentioned already, but apparently they won't let girls wear tuxedos to prom either - they're required to wear gowns! What bullshit. I wore a tux to my prom and it was awesome.

i have a friend who likes mostly asian girls and i don't think anyone would call him a degenerate for that. i prefer girls with dark hair, people like what they like, i didn't choose to be more attracted to girls with darker hair, it's just the way it is and there's nothing wrong or sick about that just as there isn't for anyone who prefers blonds or short girls or tall girls or a little weight....

I gather that's why I have a better understanding for people who happen to be gay. I have two of my best friends who are gay and i hang out with them as often as I can, very cool people. As for me since a youth I've had a liking for redheads, they're so rare and they catch my eye, even better when they're Irish.
