This is freaking disgusting. As an American I can't believe shit like this happens in "The Land of the Free". My favourite part is:

The decision was made, the board of education said, "taking into consideration the education, safety and well-being of our students."

Safety? Well Being? Education? Who is safer due to the fact that two girls can't go to prom together? What is learned by this? My prom last year was a blast! I can't believe it's taken away from students because people are uncomfortable with a lesbian couple.
What the hell is going on in this country first they kick God out of schools NOW LESBIANS!!! Say it isn't so! And both are not allowed just because a few people are uncomfortable!....Next thing you know they will be deleting history from text books and not allowing illegal aliens in school! What will we do!!!

I just read this on some news site. That is so wrong!! I think anyone should be able to bring whoever they want. Lots of people bring siblings, moms, etc and nothing is ever said. The girl could've ;ied about who her date is, but she told the truth and is now told the date cannot attend. BS!!

Her school should do a protest with a boycott.

the thing is ... is this really a couple of overzealous administrators or are they reflecting the beliefs of the community?

Two completely separate issues. God shouldn't be in school because of the first amendment: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof". In a publicly funded institution, God has no place there, unless one is happy covering all religions, including the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Having someone bring their girlfriend to prom is not against the law, where one can make the argument that bringing religion into a publicly funded classroom is.

And either way... It doesn't affect me... Well, other than the fact there are less girls available!

Canceling the prom will mean that the gay girl will face the wrath of some disappointed students. Very irresponsible for the school to create such a situation.

Or maybe, just maybe, there are the same amount of gays there have always been, and we now live in a culture where it is more acceptable to be open and honest.

Two of my guy friends went to Prom together. Maybe it was allowed because they weren't dating or gay?

    Narrow minded, predjudiced, pathetic.

I went to an all girls (catholic too) high school and at our formal (aussie) we had girls bring girls and it wasn't a big deal. Yes there were the ones who just brought a friend cos they wanted to for whatever reason, but then there were the ones who were very openly, and confidently gay and who brought thier girlfriends. And that was 15years ago!!!

Some people should just crawl back under whatever rock it was they came from and take thier brainless and backwards thinking with them. Because now there is the situation where the poor girl who this has been focused on, is going to victim of some really nasty vengeful types. And we all know what horrid creatures some teenage girls can be.

I have an idea this whole thing is being blow out of proportion, after these KID'S leave high school or even go home at the end of a school they can do what they want but while they're at school maybe they should just abide by the rules, I know all the protesters here will make comparisons as to why they think i am wrong and they every right to be gay.....man that just kills me I don't agree with that crap at all.
if most of the student parents and facility do not approve of gay relationships then do they have the moral and the majority vote to say no not at our schools and its functions ? I mean if I am wrong then you wont mind if
light up a cigarette in a public place like a restaurant shopping mall....high school prom, point is they are kids being guided by our adults in the education system and parent's until they come of age and can make their own choices outside our public schools, ok protesters blast away !!! :D

A cigarette has adverse health affects to others. Last I checked, being gay doesn't.
