UPDATE:

Please add your name to the list at the end of this thread if you wish to donate or PM me. At this time we have 40. All interested will receive a PM from me this weekend with a paypal address where they can donate.

We have arranged with a collector to part with a near mint condition rare promo item from the early days of the band which is highly sought after and I think something Heath will treasure. The price is $800. I will inform members of the actual item in the PM. I want to keep it a secret at this stage until it is delivered.

As soon as we have the money to comver the purchase and shipping, we will arrange for it to be delivered to Heath either in hospital or if he has been released to his girlfriend's address in Sydney.

Thank you to all who have expressed an interest and offered money, support, etc. It is warming to be part of such a great community.

I've just had a request from a non-10c member who would like to cointribute but who cannot post on the forum or send private messages. If you want to contribute but you cannot post on this forum please send me an email at: paul@pa69.com and I'll include you in the mailout of final details in the nexty day or so.

Anyone going to SNL - if you can get a card signed by the band - please do it! :)

Peace.

This story has really moved me. The guy in question is a great guy. I don't know about his life before the snowboarding accident that put him in his chair, but seeing him at the Melbourne show and the lengths to which the fans, the security and the band went to make sure he was safe and enjoyed the show was touching. He sat beside me and Gus up against the rail infront of Ed/Jeff. How such a terrible act could happen to such a person sickens me.

I would like to start a collection in his honour to help with his recovery. I'm not sure of his medical situation, but hope/expect his surgery and other expenses are covered by Medicare (Aussie socialised health care - thank god for it).

I propose a collection of cash, (I can accept via paypal and arrange a transfer to his/her Aussie bank accounts) gifts or even, if someone is close to the band - a signed piece of memorabilia - something to reassure him there are more of us than them.

I'm calling for ideas and offers an am happy to co-ordinate it.

    Ideas:
    1. Cash collection to fly his parents from Canada to Australia to be with him.
    2. Get well card signed by the band - can anyone organise this at the SNL taping?
    3. Cash collection to send flowers to his hospital room from his friends at the 10C.
    4. Cash collection to purchase a rare Pearl Jam collector's item.
    5. Sydney fans, is there anything you can do?

Right now I'm ashamed of my country with the level of senseless random violence like this.

I'm willing to start the fund with $100 AUD.

I don't want to put a damper on things, but is a cash collection the right thing? Unless one knows this person well, I think that giving cash is very delicate. Also, it would mean getting his details to transfer funds, etc. I'm not saying that it's not a good idea, just we need to be sensitive about it. He may be very grateful for it or it may make him feel like we are taking liberties - not sure. Anyone posting here a friend of his?

Gifts/memorabilia on the other hand seem a great idea. He obviously is a PJ freak and we know how much we like those things!

    Sorry if I sound like a party-pooper, I don't mean to be.

EDIT: Reading PA's post (which came more or less at the same time as mine!), a cash collection to buy a collectible is great!

I tend to agree with RedRock.

Memorobilia or stuff signed by the band might be more appropriate

No Red, I was thinking the same. Some people may take offence in being given cash, or it just may make them feel uncomfortable.

I think a small collection with which to buy some gifts would be much more appropriate and would show we are all thinking of him without being too overbearing. Maybe books, badges, signs, cards, posters, some boots on CD...

If it was acceptable to them, a ticket to fly his mum to Aussie might be suitable. I would not suggest just handing over cash. I'm happy to arrange a paypal collection point and post all accounts so everyone can see it is all above board. I just want us to be able to offer more than just words and wishes.

For me, a personally signed get well card would be my choice. With the band all being together this weekend for SNL, it would be perfect timing. Can anyone arrange this?

I've written to 10C, hopefully they may have some ideas, will keep you all informed.

I'm privy to the item and it would be super cool. It would not be cheap, but it would be the kind of thing that would really brighten your spirits and let you know the 10c members are with him. PD, let us know what we need to aim for $$$$ and we'll see what everyone thinks 8-)

OK, when I have the cost, I will report to the board the cost of this item from a private collector. We're talking a fairly hefty price, this aint no poster - but it would be a tremendous gesture if we can get enough people behind the idea. Please get the word out to everyone you know, even ask friends out of the 10c to contribute (do a whip-around at work).

I will aqcept pledges either on this thread or via PM if you want to remain anonymous. I will post the totals on this thread. When enough it pledged I will call for actual donations to a paypal account - mine or someone more trustworthy?

I'm kicing it off $100 AUD.

I think yours will be fine Paul.....or feel free to use mine.......whatever is best for people I guess, but it would be great for everyone donating to send their money via paypal marked as a gift so fees are not deducted at the receiving end.

I'm definitely down for this idea and would love to make a donation :ugeek: :D

Let's keep this thread bumped all day. There is going to be a lot of traffic trying to knock this off the front page.

Maybe the mods could sticky this :)

It's night time here on the West Coast of Australia, so if people can keep it alive, spread the word and I'll pick it up again Friday morning. We need to act on this one fairly quickly.

nice idea folks... not being a party pooper in the slightest but do you know the guy is a collector of PJ memorabilia? It's just that as a rabid fan he might just be into the music and the live shows.... he might not get the whole poster thing, the signed skateboards, etc...

Obviously i'm sure he'd be utterly grateful but as a stingey tightfisted scottishman i know if i was lying in hospital feeling awful and someone gave me a signed copy of the fancy poster book that cost say $1000 i'm pretty sure i would have rather had the money used in a much better way.

Do you know what i mean? hope this comes across ok as I think what you're all doing is excellent.

Can we not use the raised money to hire a hitman?
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

good point, it does however show a wonderful sentiment and intention and at worst if he really felt that way he could sell it.....

but im sure he would be super touched to receive this as a gift a collector or not....its a real cool item and one to display - its always a good talking point too

I know what you mean and had thought a similar thing. I'm not a collector and so to me I don't 'get' a lot of the items some go crazy for so may need to check whether he's into the super rare promo type stuff.

EDIT: ... another idea :P what if those of us with something we'd be happy to give PJ wise ... a vinyl, poster etc donate an item and those who don't have something to give can donate some cash to go towards stuff from Goods (t-shirts, stickers, posters) ... we could put together a big PJ goodie box?? So there would be loads of stuff maybe not as rare as a collectible but loads of cool stuff to look through?

Does anyone know him personally? I think the gift Idea is great & would lift anyones spirits. I also think a situation like this could keep you off work for awhile. It may be that financial aid would be better suited. Maybe someone thats close to him or knows his family could ask. Either way...I'm down.

BTW, I think the people on here a pretty awesome.

That would be sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cool! Has anyone put this to the 10C yet? Shall I?

Looks like posters are teetering between expensive collectible (for a maybe not collector) and maybe financial assistance or a PJ goodie bag.

If he is not a collector and if the thread goes towards getting him the collectible item, well.. he could always sell it if he needs money. (Did I just say something really bad? ). I still believe that direct financial aid may not be appropriate and not too sure about the hitman... will it be traced back to us?

EDIT: It would be nice to know what this item is though....

I met him, stood next to hiom for 4 hours in Edihad Stadium in Melbourne, have him on my facebook, but don't 'know him' as a long time friend.

The gift PD is organising is pretty awesome, I'm no collector, but I'd love to have it, but I take your point that he may not be. I'll try and make contact, or have someone who knows him better. I think Joni may know him.

The other idea I had was to get enough to fly his parents from Canada to Sydney to be with him - if this is welcome.

Whatever, i jsut want to harness the goodness of this forum to do something really special for someone who deserves so much better than the shit sandwich he's just been served. I'm sure we can all work something out that is perfect.

I just emailed Kevin Rudd, our Prime Minister about this issue. ( I always send him an email when I'm pissed, thats DRUNK for the novices to OZ slang.)
I'll post the reply when I get it.
I told him we are all fed up with pampering to the minority and that if we all abide by the rules sociaty would be much better off.,

Even though we all feel like punching the shit out of someone,.....WE DONT!

We want tougher laws to deal with the LOW LIFES that make MOST OF US sick of thier behaviour. :|

    Who doesn't!!!!

Flying his parents/mother to Australia is a touching idea but again, quite personal and could be seen as intrusive.

Again... all depends on the people at the receiving end. We should try to find a 'real' friend who may have a bit more insight.
