from the new rolling stone, Chris Martin about Coldplays live show...

"There's no question that, at the moment, we're better live than we've ever been. Not quite as good as Pearl Jam, but we're getting there"

At least he knows greatness when he sees it. Every performer should take a leaf out of Pearl Jam's book.

Cool... Still can't stand Coldplay though
“Life is life everywhere. Life is in ourselves and not outside us. There will be men beside me, and the important thing is to be a man among men and to remain a man always, whatever the misfortunes, not to despair and not to fall - that is the aim of life, that is its purpose.”

  • Chris Martin was at MSG this year right next to the 10c section. He's apparently a pretty big fan.
  • Chris Martin is very respectful.

Cool. I like hearing opinions of Pearl Jam from other artists.

Double same. I like coldplay...but don't love most recent album. I definitely don't have anything negative to say about Chris or them. They're pretty cool.

I felt bad for being so negative.

Agree with others' opinion that it's cool to hear nice things about the guys from other bands. Shouldn't have put them down, different strokes for different folks and all that...

I hate this attitude around here. This guy says something praising PJ and you gotta be negative and knock him.

coldplay is a good band a lot of people can't give other bands credit...thank god pj can!

    Agreed.
It is like some pissing contest about who can pretend to be the coolest by hating the "band to hate" of the moment.
I love Coldplay and would NEVER kick Chris out of bed for eating crackers. :)

  • just wanna say that I've seen Coldplay some months ago and they gave a really good show.

For many people over here, it is just cool to hate Coldplay... like it used to be with Creed.

I went with my little brother to see Coldplay here in LA in July...let's just say they have a LONG way to go before they're up to PJ's standards as a live band.

I mean, if you like $85 tickets for crappy seats and a mere 90 minute show, then Coldplay's great!

If you like a virtual karaoke feel at a concert due to backing tracks being used on 80% of the songs, then Coldplay's great!

And if you like bands who all but completely ignore their 1st album that made them famous (aside from a half-baked acoustic version of "Yellow" in the audience), then Coldplay's great!

I don't care who you are, or how early your bedtime is. Once you have 3+ albums of material to pull from, give your fans a 2 hour show.

I do like Coldplay. I am not a huge fan, and I have not really gotten into their last couple of albums, but what I was going to say is... I worked at a concert venue for three summers, and out of all the shows I worked, I truly believe Coldplay put on the best show. So,.. just saying.

Saw them again early this month and they rocked !!!

  • he was sitting next to my wife and i at the 2nd msg show and was surprised we travelled all the way from uk to see pearl jam,he admired our dedication!
im not a fan of coldplay at all and are very hyped up in the uk but what a gentleman he was and what impressed me is that he knew most of the pj songs rocking out to most of the set.
    COYS!
  • I've seen Coldplay several times, the last two of those being for free. The first was their free Brixton Academy gig where Chris accidentally broke a 1966 Gibson ES335 and then gave it to me! The second time was a couple months later at a BBC Radio gig in front of 250 people. Because there was no big stage set-up we actually got a bit of spontaneity from them. They're a good live band and they've gotten better, but I agree about the fact that they should be putting on longer gigs. I enjoy the music and all that, but I won't be going to any of their £50 per ticket (not GA!!) gigs here in December. It's just a bit too predictable and over-produced.

Oh and here's a photo of me with the guitar if anyone's curious.

Most people on here think it's cool to knock bands that have a hint of mainstream in them.
No wonder people hate PJ fans.

Wouldn't surprise me if 90% of The Who/Tom Petty/Neil Young/etc fans hate PJ

    coldplay is good band
first two records were great and the third was pretty good
the "new" one is just awful though-very disappointing

lose the production Chris and go back to writing cool melodies

I dislike Coldplay, not because it's 'cool' to hate them at the moment (i didn't realize this)... I just dislike them because I don't prefer their music. To me a lot of it sounds the same and I just don't really like the vibe I get when I hear them. I saw them on SNL the other night and thought it was kind of corny and the song they played first kind of annoys me, mostly because it sounds similar to one of their earlier hits. I respect them as musicians and I understand the appeal, I just don't care for them musically.

I don't mind coldplay, just Chris Martin is so annoying to watch when performing.
  • That's a nice thing of Chris Martin to say, although I've never been a Coldplay fan. Nothing to do with 'being trendy' or whatever, they just don't appeal to me (similar reason to the one I gave in the Counting Crows thread - too miserable and mopey for me). I've just had a thought that may have unfortunately negative implications for the greatness of my favourite band: should I trust the judgement of an individual who named their child after a fruit? :D
