I've just read on their website that they will sign all pre-ordered copies of the new album made before tomorrow! Some very cool special editions there too!

Edit: Of course I've pre-ordered it (just the CD version though), and it comes with a free download of Sick of You - I like!

Seeing Cake in December in Portland. This is awesome news about the presale. I'm buying that sucker today!

Cake is doing a run of 4 shows in February at the Troubadour in Los Angeles!
  • Saw Cake last night in Portland and it was SO MUCH FUN!!! They gave a guy in the audience a tree to take care of and told him to take pictures and share it with them over the years. Cake is so awesome. Only down side they played 1 1/2 hours. Too friggin short! This is how I know that Pearl Jam has ruined me for other bands.

"Stick shifts and safety belts, bucket seats have all got to go".

    I'm a little hungover today.

That's awesome! Yeah, they do the tree thing at every show. My sister almost won it in Boston a few months ago. Very cool band. And yes, we are spoiled by the marathon PJ sets.

Now, did they do one full set and a couple encore songs? Or did they play two sets of 10-12 songs each? I've seen them many times and always preferred the two smaller sets.

How many new songs were played? Seems they're only doing 3-4 of the new tracks right now.
"FF, I've heard the droning about the Sawx being the baby dolls. Yeah, I get it, you guys invented baseball and suffered forever. I get it." -JearlPam0925
  • It was one long set and an encore of 2-3 songs and as you mentioned, only a couple of new songs otherwise mostly classic stuff. The was really really chatty though and really hilarious. Last time I saw them, he was kind of crabby and not as talkative.

This is my third time seeing Cake and I don't ever remember the tree thing before. Of course, at least one of the prior shows I barely remember anyway. Something about Cake just makes me over do it in the alcohol department. Its just such a party. :D

I received my pre-ordered signed album on Monday - in Europe, mind you. Now that's what I call a swift delivery. :)

    P.S.: It's a good album.

  • Long Time, Teenage Pregnancy, Easy to Crash (which might be my new favorite CAKE song ever), and Italian Guy are the highlights so far thru 2 spins. This shit is worth the wait. I've been groovin all afternoon. And the lyrics in Bound Away are excellent. I'm gonna be gushing about this record for the indefinite future.

I agree on all of those - really a good album. One of my favorites that you didn't list is Mustache Man (Wasted)

Tough question - right now, I would say a solid 3-4ish - behind Fashion Nugget and Comfort Eagle for sure, not sure about Pressure Chief...

Love the new album....very minimal, and very sincere sounding.

Gonna try to go to 2 of the L.A. shows.

Oddly enough, SPONGE is playing a show on one of the Cake nights.

    1996 all over again!

    I actually love sponge cake!

We jews eat it during passover!
  • Im not sure yet how Showroom ranks with other CAKE efforts. I think it's different for me on almost a weekly basis.

    Motorcade of Generosity
    Fashion Nugget
    Prolonging the Magic
    Comfort Eagle
    Pressure Chief
    B-sides and Rarities
    Showroom of Compassion

They're all great. I love them all equally I think. I mean, does it get any better than the final duo on Prolonging of Cool Blue Reason and Where Would I Be? And their first effort, Motorcade...I mean, R&R Lifestyle, I Bombed Korea and Mr. Mastodon Farm are golden. It's difficult to separate and rank any portion of their catalog. There really isn't a ton of diversity between their first and last records, or anything in between.

Like, how bout this LF, you asked in another thread about where to begin with the Decemberists...there's a pretty cut-and-dry answer to that question. The same logic doesn't apply for CAKE. It's all good. They are all accessible alternative rock tunes that are easy and fun to jump into.
