I will be going to this! I was very disappointed I couldn't go the last time they played the palace in Albany about two years ago. I won't miss it this year!

Yeah you guys down south seem to get no love from CAKE. I mean, shit, they're playing in Alaska again. Two years ago they did a mini Alaska tour! And you southern folks can't even get one show! Damn.

Well hey, you guys are always welcome up here to check these guys out with your boy Fenway. We went almost 10 years without a CAKE show in New England, now we get 3 in just over 12 months.

  • Great band. I love the Lo-Fi Funk. They have some great bass composition in their songs.

So I just finished listening to Motorcade of Generosity, Fashion Nugget, Prolonging the Magic, Comfort Eagle, Pressure Chief and B-sides and Rarities. Getting ready for the show a week from Friday.

These guys are so friggin cool.

When I ask people if they listen to CAKE, I get such responses as "They still make music?" and "Weren't they a 90's one hit wonder?"

I consider them one of the underrated bands of the last 20 years.

So they played in a park in Lowell last night. The show was delayed by thunder/lightening by about 45 minutes, and even when they started playing, the rain and thunder/lightening kept persisting through much of the first set. The wait was totally worth it, as the weather made for quite a dramatic scene. I think John and the band were a little nervous with the inclement weather, talking about the guy from the Yardbirds that was killed onstage by electrocution back in the 60's. They played all the classics, as well as 4 really great new songs from the upcoming "completed" album. So much fun. They'll be back in September once the new album drops, playing the Orpheum, an indoor venue in downtown Boston.

YES! I have worked at many amazing shows in Lowell at Boarding House Park, and this was by far the best show I've ever been involved with. I was singing Mexico in the office all week long and I was overjoyed when they played it. Highlight for me, too Faithful.

Sorry for the shameless plug, but I wrote the sign that they posted on their website (http://www.cakemusic.com/news.html) referencing the Lowell show. It is great when your interests and your job are one in the same.

  • Another fantastic evening with CAKE Saturday night in Boston. They were in their element, thriving off the energy of the crowd. They played two sets, as they did earlier this summer in Lowell, and most of the songs were the same, but the new songs sounded better and more polished. Good times!

In other CAKE news, at long last the new album was discussed at Saturday's show. It's gonna be called "Showroom of Compassion" and will be released on 1/11/11.
