WOW those were the days TICKETS

For these reasons, we have attempted to keep the ticket prices to our concerts to a maximum of $18. We have also tried to limit any service charges that may be imposed on the sale of those tickets to 10 percent of the ticket price, and to ensure that any service charge will be separately identified from the price of the ticket itself so that fans know how much is being charged for the ticket and how much is being added on by the company selling the ticket. As a result, even where a service charge is imposed, our goal is to make it so that no one will pay more than $20 to see a Pearl Jam concert.

Its an article from 5H if anyone was wondering

There was a Rolling Stone article a few months ago that showed a breakdown of a typical arena rock show. I think it was Green Day. Those promoters, venues, etc definitely get a SHITLOAD of the money from each ticket sold. But Green Day has a lot more production put into their shows (I think...never actually seen them), and their ticket was a lot cheaper than any Pearl Jam tickets the past couple years...

Actually, I think they guys have justified it to themselves because record sales have gone down from torrenting/copying. I think that's their take because of Ed making a comment about how he bought a plate of eggs that morning for $10 and why wouldn't someone pay $2 more for an album they'll love and cherish forever or something. I can't blame them too much, but for those of us who do pay for everything they release, it just makes it all that much more expensive.

  • Can't find the Rolling Stone article... but on Pollstar, the average Green Day ticket is $44.86, Pearl Jam is $59.34. By no means a rip off compared to most tours... but I wonder if Green Day can charge less because they go on real tours... if you have to sink all the money into a tour that is only a few cities long, yet still all over the country, I wonder if that actually costs Pearl Jam more than just going out and playing a long tour all over the place?

You're right about the gas too... Gas WAS much more a couple years ago. It has not been that price since, yet notice prices didn't go down anywhere. That was the excuse for EVERYTHING when gas hit $4 a gallon everywhere... everyone rose their prices. Now, it's NOT $4 a gallon, but everything is still expensive!

I hope the intention of the original poster was not to criticize PJ's ticket prices...

    but instead the overall industry...

    Can you clarify?

I recently ran across my ticket from the ABQ 93 show that you and I both attended. $18.50, I believe! I had been wondering how in hell I could have afforded to see them back then... but it's all making sense to me now. ;) Those were the days! :)

Why can't he do both? Pearl Jam's ticket prices are very expensive. They are higher than other rock bands and are really high compared to what I paid back in 2000 and 2003. The last few years the prices have really gone up. I'll still go to see them but the days of going to four shows on a single tour are over, at least for me.

I think it's realllly cool how a PJ ticket is arond $70 regardless of the seat. It's bad for some by overall it's for the better. Just my opinion.

Maybe its cause of where I live but their ticket prices are very comparable to most of the bands I have seen. The biggest difference is that I get almost two times the show at a PJ concert for roughly the same price.

True enough, they could ask for more, and their tickets really are "worth" more, because market would bid the tickets higher: Eg Just look at what scalper websites get people to pay for a ticket.

I think Trent Reznor had it right when he said something to the effect of Artists "don't want to come off like a bunch of greedy pricks" so they don't do a bidding system when selling tickets, which could yield even $1,000 per ticket for some of the best seats. Though scalping websites make money on this difference.

Comparing this issue to pressed-music (illegally downloading and copying aside) PJ's music is probably "worth" $100 per CD to me... but I'm grateful they don't ask for that.

I think their higher tickets go against what they've said in the past, but with the financials of the music industry changing so dramatically over the last 10 years, I understand it.

I recently found my Randall's Island ticket. Big map. The best were the Grateful Dead tickets, with colorful raised printing... so easily forgeable... though I was the only one not to get in, yet I was the artist. :?

Anywho... it's now 2010 and the service fees seem to be about $18.

crticizing Pearl Jam for high ticket prices?

Wow.. I'm just not seeing them as the focus of your venom.. hardly in the same spectrum.

Have you seen what U2, DMB, Springsteen and most top acts charge?

and factor in that 10C seniority applies to the best seats... not available to the scalpers
