They don't even have a new album to promote, either. Strange.
I read an article this morning that said they actually were planning to do a tour this year and they were going to use the Superbowl apperance as publicity for it. But then Pete decided he wanted to continue working on his solo project so Roger signed on with Clapton which killed any chances for a tour this year. They had already agreed to do the halftime show though, and even though Pete still wanted to pull out, they eventually got him to go through with it. Now they're planning on rolling out the tour next year. So keep your fingers crossed...

It's not a solo project. Pete is writing for a new Who album.
As for the wardrobe malfunction, I've seen numerous photos of Pete during the last 2 tours where his shirt doesn't cover enough. Big deal. If he hasn't been concerned about it by now I don't think he's going to do anything about it.
I agree, the light show saved it which was sad
and what was with Townshends shirt? tell me that wasn't on purpose
littly belly button peeking
+1 I was so looking forward to this half time show!
It`s the F`ing WHO for crying out loud!
They are sure to rock the fuck out.
.............NOPE.....................
I was so disappointed.
They sounded like shit.
They shouldn't be called the Who. They are not the Who.
I'm so with you on this! They are in no way the Who. Why can't they call themselves Townsend and Daltry?
Pete answered this in an interview around the time of the Kennedy Center Honors. He said they don't tour as Daltry and Townshend for 2 reasons: 1) using The Who name gives new listeners an awareness of the band and their musical legacy and 2) it earns money for the estates of Keith and John.
Pete himself has said that the current band is more like a Who tribute band than the actual Who. I think Pino is a more than adequate bass player who knows he's not Thunderfingers and Zak is an outstanding drummer who is more in sync with the band than anyone else has been since Keith died.
And speaking as a fan of 40+ years who saw the band in their heyday, it just drives me crazy when people say that they are not The Who! Why does nobody make this argument about the Stones, who don't have all their original members? How many drummers has PJ had?
They are the fuckin Who because the founder and only lead singer is still in the band, along with the creative force who wrote nearly all of their songs. As far as I'm concerned they can call themselves The Who as long as they want. Go see them if you ever get a chance. They can still wipe the floor with most bands.
I can see both sides of the debate of whether or not they're still The Who. I just think it's the band's RIGHT if they want to STILL consider themselves as The Who. You can choose not to go to the shows if you wish and based on the fact that Entwistle and Moon still get something towards their estates, I'M ALL FOR IT.
THEY'RE THE WHO!
I've seen The Who near 10 times live now and the last time in 2007 Hollywood Florida the last date of that tour. Daltry's voice was cracking then mostly from some bad infection/cold thing which cancelled several earlier dates. He made it through and gave it all he had and it turned out to be a great show even though those tickets were ridiculously expensive.
Loved the show last night and Daltry's voice again seemed strained at times but so what Rock and Rock isn't a perfect and precise show most times. I just want to know one thing who designed that stage? That was one of the coolest set ups I've ever seen in the over 500 concerts I've seen.
That said it maybe time now to bring in some more youthful bands, Green Day, PJ?, Black Eye Peas what do you think?

I don't understand people put off by seeing a man's bellybutton. Thank goodness it wasn't an ankle. Pretty soon we'll be back to people fainting at the sight..."but God was just and raised the dust to blind the wicked eye!" On the music front, The Who have sounded better...just take a look at Live at the Royal Albert Hall. Although you might find you have to endure the horror of looking a very cute short guy while you're at it on at least two of the songs. Scandalous--the singing and the sight! It should be rated at least "R" for sounding way too good and looking way too dazzling. But, sounding better or worse, looking richer or poorer, in sickness and in health...I have to admit it was great seeing The Who out there, doing what they love to do, detractors or not. It was very much "braise your eye" in the very best tradition of rock and roll. The Who didn't do what young people were supposed to do back in their youth, and now they damn well aren't doing what old men are supposed to do in their older age. Some things never change. Another shock, huh?

Yeah, that stage was great! Some of the laser lights looked like the ones The Who had back in the 70s and then brought out again at the VH1 Rock Honors. Overall the visual effects were amazing.
Having some "younger" acts works for me. I have a feeling though that since the game next year is going to be at the Cowboys new stadium, they're going to get ZZ Top for the half time show. :wtf: :eh:
Just my wild guess. :shifty:
Why do they still bother. It is a total insult to the members who have passed away. Can you imagine PJ still going round with just Ed & Stone & other musicians in the back ground. It is just silly, time to give up. I am not a Who fan but they are considered one of all time greats why make a joke of themselves & music. I will get slaughtered for this but look at Led Zeppelin as soon as Bonham died they knew it was time.

I totally disagree when you say it's an insult to past members. Reason being when they STILL call themselves THE WHO those past members gets money to their estates. I'm sure John and Keith's estates don't mind, so why shoudn't their estates continue to benifit?

Keith left behind a daughter and John was survived by his son and his elderly mother. I'm glad to know that their family members still benefit from The Who's music.
As for Led Zep hanging it up after Bonham died--puh-leez. Plant and Page toured together (without even telling John Paul Jones about it in advance) and they just did that reunion concert, which may or may not have been a one-off. You can't convince me that thousands of Zep fans would rather the band had continued.
I'm a brit and a big fan of The Who, but I'm also realistic enough to admit they actually do suck live now... big time. I saw them in 2007, absolutely gigantic disappointment, people just started wandering off chatting to each other about half-way through the show, like it was some pub band. I clung on to the end but it was tough going. I feel for RD, such a legend in my eyes, but it's hard work standing there listening to him strain and struggle through pretty much every song. I don't think any of us have the right to tell any band they should call it a day, but with The Who, you do kinda wish they would...

wow, that would be phenomenal and much better then hearing royal albert will be last gig together (not that i believe it even if they're saying it now)
I just saw on T.V. that the 1/2 time performers can expect a 555% increase in sales of the songs they perform. The may not add up to much but it is a nice bump.

Yeah, Dave K and Dave K had a similar sound...
