I know, I saw him last year and it made my heart ached seeing him do that song. It's just not right....There is only one other voice that could accompany his. (I already know Chester wasn't doing Vedder's part but still)

were you similarly vexed when pj was playing it in 2003?

Why? Because he's from Linkin Park, and therefore, everything he touches turns to shit? Because Pearl Jam fans are only allowed like bands that everyone has pre-agreed on? Because people are so caught up in sucking Ed off that Hunger Strike sans Ed is an abomination, but Hunger Strike sans Chris - the guy who wrote the song - is perfectly acceptable, even when Andrew Stockdale is butchering the song to within an inch of its life?
Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.

And then people rip on Chester for doing a pretty good version of it. At least Chester didn't sound like a retarded mule caught in a bear trap. :p

:o I had the courage to watch the youtube video and Chester's voice doesn't fit his the song whatsoever. He's not a baritone so it didn't fit the song.

The dude sucked but sometimes it doesn't even matter what it sounds like. Barbara Streisand can sing, does that mean you wanna hear her singing Hunger Strike. I hate to inform you but, sometimes it just doesn't matter what a singer sounds like but the integrity of a singer is very important. Bob Dylan, Tom Waits and many others prove this. Great songwriters and artists are often times way better to listen to than someone with just a great voice. That dude has neither by the way. Music doesn't have to be all bubble gum and cotton candy, sometimes grit is needed. I would rather hear Corinne Tucker fart into a microphone than listen to linkin park do anything.

We're not talking about Linkin Park, we're talking about Chester

If the rapper guy had been trying to do the song, that is one thing

But Chester actually has a decent set of pipes. And regardless of what you think of what he has written, he can sing it pretty damn well.

all you elitists who care more about credibility than sound are fucking ridiculous and i can't believe you call yourselves music fans. It's always been about mood and emotion, not about whether you sucked the correct genre tit or not.

    Get a clue.

no shit, it's not ALL about credibility and integrity. read what i said, that dude can't sing aswell as the fact he is a horrid songwriter. i'm glad you like him, people like justin timberlake, usher and Nickelback aswell. why you guys like them i'll never know but have fun and enjoy em (for the 5 minutes they are here).

ps - i have clicked on this thread 4 times now. everyone knows the rule is, if you click on a thread 5 times or more that talks about someone in linkin park being good, you instantly get loser pussy disease. thats where you loose all music taste and you watch mtv 5 hours a day and you become a weenie. so i won't be a clicking back in here.
  • What a load of shit.

Chester Bennington is horrible talentless little man that screeches and screws his face up in order to try and achieve a fake angst. I've noticed he has a bad habit of pulling the microphone away from him as he's singing... why? If he had any knowledge of vocal work (or a strong enough voice to warrent this technique) he would know how to control his voice instead of playing to the crowd and trying to achieve credit for being a good vocalist. He perfectly exhibits what's wrong with rock music today... Image over substance.

    Twat.
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.

At this point Bennington is putting out better music than Cornell is. How sad is that?

If the integrity of the singer matters, why is Chris Cornell even singing it at this point? Fact of the matter is, Chris wrote that song, and whoever he chooses to sing it with is up to him, and I'll judge it based on how good it sounds, not how indie-credible the singer is.

It was not bad. It was not Eddie, But it passes. The people who said it hurt their ears are for some reason not being honest, like they feel threatened. Ed will live. He don't live and die by this board. Not a bad performance. It even sounded good.

Your right, Chris isn't Ed. And Chester isnt Chris.

Chris was singing ed's parts, and chester was singing chris' parts. I guess chris figured he can sound alot more like Ed himself than chester could sound like Ed.

hey, I said I watched the video, I never said I listen so don't call me a liar OK.

and for the record, Chester's voice is whiny and annoying!

God ... who gives a shit?

Cornell wrote Hungerstrike. He likes to play Hungerstike at his shows. He needs another singer to sing the two-part harmony. There is another band on the bill, so he recruits the singer from that bill.

It doesn't really matter what it sounds like. Fuckin' hell. You people have to nitpick every single fuckin' thing ...
