i get a kick out of people who rip on other singers who cover any part of ANY song that has to do with either Ed or Pearl Jam

whats funny is when you ask people about Ed's voice they say it sounds like he is chewing on marbles to anyone other than people on this site...you going to say they have no musical taste either?

seriously get over yourselves ...pearl jam isnt the only relevant band out there

this cover wasnt the worst like you guys made it out to be, nor was it the greatest

ps--sorry about this rant but if it isnt someone ripping on Chester Bennington, its Aaron Lewis, if its not him its someone else

And I have to agree with what Joe2therevenge said even though I got lots of love for PJ, that was much better than the versions done with Sleater Kinney

yeah, yeah, everyones got different tastes, lets all hold hands and sing kumbaya, it should be seen as a tribute, blah, blah, blah

All those artists are terrible, so its shameful to hear them do a song that most of us really like. Is it so wrong to have an opinion these days? Linkin Park and Staind suck, and I hate it when they cover Pearl Jam. And Chris Cornell sucks too now.

    I thought it sounded good.

BTW. I absolutely despise Lincoln Park. I think every song sounds exactly the same. The one guy try's to rap and the other guy screams. And the douche bag guitar player wears earphones for some reason.

I just saw LP at Edgefest (as well as STP). I thought they were awesome. How he can scream so hard so much is beyond me, and yet he can still be melodic at times too (sort of like Chris).
The clip you just posted may not have been an exceptional performance, but it beat the crap out of a lot of other Hunger Strike performances (ahem...Corin Tucker...cough!).

"It was Luke's fault" (Ed after stumbling on Soon Forget at Kitchener '05)
  • That guy was far better than Corin Tucker on that particular song. Much more in tune.

Like LP or not, that was not bad. The crowd seemed to like it ok. Personally I would love to see Chris perform Hunger Strike. Could care less WHO the person joining him was as long as he didn't ruin the song. And it sure seems Chester didn't ruin it to me.

    ....... I like Linkin Park.

And I'm pretty snobby when it comes to music. I think Chester is a good singer.. crappy lyrics, but catchy music and good singing.. for people who hate his scream, turn on Once and stop being a hypocrite. Remembering back to the early nineties when I first heard Ten, I thought Ed's singing, especially on Once was fucking annoying.. it took me a few years to really get into Pearl Jam.

man he sounded about like I do when I sing that song... with all the windows rolled up of course!
  • After listening to it a couple more times... Chester actually really nailed those screams. And I'm about as far away as you can get from a Linkin Park fan.
Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.

Was it just me or did Chester magically transform into Molly Ringwald at the end there?

Seriously. It was OK. Not mind-blowing, but not vomit-inducing, either.

And you guys should stop bagging on Chris (even though his new song might be the most wretched thing ever to greet human ears).

His solo shows are really pretty good. He plays his own stuff, the stuff he wrote, so it's not really a "cover" band. And he's still a talented motherfucker.

It was not bad. It was not Eddie, But it passes. The people who said it hurt their ears are for some reason not being honest, like they feel threatened. Ed will live. He don't live and die by this board. Not a bad performance. It even sounded good.

That was fucking terrible, it should be outlawed, like Madonna covering American Pie should have NEVER been allowed to happen.

Hunger Strike paired up two of my favorite sings of all time, and it's horrible to see this LP asshole sing it! At least Aaron Lewis sounds good when he does Black.

I won't totally discredit LP, they do have some talent, but this chump ain't fit to sing Hunger Strike.

Not bad. He gave the song some punch it has been missing since the 92 days.

I saw LP in Poland last year when they opened for pj. They weren't half bad live and I enjoyed it! Really cool to get some metal into a pj experience!

Also, they seem to repect pearl jam, so I see no reason to send out so much hate. That just disrespectful!

" I hate Linkin Park so that was horrible." = Ignorant. Think about it.

OK, I thought about it, so here's your answer: One of the biggest reasons people don't like Linkin Park is Chester's voice, so wouldn't it make sense that we wouldn't want to hear him singing on another song?

And everyone please shut up about "musical snobbery". Not everyone is going to like every single band out there, and I personally deteste the entire rap-rock genre. I don't hold it against anyone who likes Linkin Park, and everyone here has decent enough taste to love Pearl Jam, right? And I probably listen to a lot of music that other people don't like, not because they're snobs but because they just have different tastes.

I think it's also worth noting that Linkin Park and Cornell's "Projekt Revolution" tour has been a financial disaster. They only sold 7000 tickets to the show at the Comcast Center, which holds 20,000. I guess Busta Rhymes doesn't pull 'em in like he used to.

Think how much better Temple Of The Dog would have been if Chester was doing backup vocals.

That wasn't bad, but he doesn't even come close to the level that Eddie brought it.

Problem is that Chris seems to have become an obnoxious dude with a bit of a "rock star/god complex" - I saw him last year at Massey Hall in T.O. and he literally would stand in the center of the stage and do the thing where he puts his hand to his ear pretending he couldn't hear the crowd screaming his name (a la Springsteen)...he also seems completely disconnected with much of the music he is playing. He has a voice, but he brings none of the intensity that Ed does to his music.

As for Chester, he has no real front man presence. His dancing around the stage at the end was just really lame and awkward. It feels like a high school battle of the bands whenever I watch him.

    Anyhoo, my two...

Was also at that gig and have to agree. Not a LP fan but I enjoyed their set ... and one of the things I like about them is Chester's voice :D ... also did you see Mike stood at the side of the stage watching them and taking photos?

... and they did seem like big PJ fans.
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?

considering the emotion and the history I would pick Ed almost evry time. I am going to the show this weekend and will prob leave when chris set is over.
Some people have religion I have Pearl Jam.

His solo shows are really pretty good. He plays his own stuff, the stuff he wrote, so it's not really a "cover" band. And he's still a talented motherfucker.

He is playing songs from his old bands with a backing group that consists of neither Matt C, Timmy C, Brad Wilk, Tom or Kim. Other than Chris (who in this case isn't even singing his own part), no one on the stage had anything to do with TOTD, Soundgarden, or Audioslave. So how is this not essentially a cover band? It may not be Webster's definition, but for all intensive purposes it is.

Yes, Chris is talented. Its fine that he tours and does his old stuff, some people want to hear it. But to start this thread and say that this is an equivalant or better version than the original TOTD is a bit much in my opinion.
