while israeli aggression had been going on for some decades.
There's nothing new about this though. You're just throwing this out there without any sort of historical context. He isn't talking about all the settlements. He's talking about certain blocks of settlements that Israel hopes to retain in a final peace deal, and which many people have argued Israel has a legitimate security concern in maintaining control of. He isn't going to concede that Israel has no right to these settlements because that would undermine his ability to negotiate a future deal. And I still don't understand why a total freeze is necessary. I mean I think there should be a total freeze on settlement building, but you still haven't explained to me why the building means that the Palestinians can't negotiate. Aren't we the one's who were pissed that no one would negotiate with Iran? Why should negotiations have any preconditions?
Not sure about what anyone else thinks, but I think these are excellent points that deserve to be addressed. _outlaw's response: "wow".

Yosi, who are you trying to convince by trying to justify Israels actions against the Palestinians? yourself?
don't fool yourself that the firing of rockets compares to Israel's ongoing siege of Gaza. it's not anywhere close to ever being an even contest. it's not. there is only ONE side occupying the other. the Palestinians are imprisoned in Gaza and have no military force other than guns and homemade rockets. Israel, has the most sophisticated weaponry in the world at its disposal and uses it without mercy. they bomb Gaza Strip with F-16 fighter planes and helicopter gun ships. they target civillians. their response is completely disproportionate to the damage caused by the rocket fire from Gaza, which is a retaliation for Israel's aggression and illegal occupation. israel is NOT under threat. the number of Israelis killed and injured by rockets has been very few compared to the Palestinians killed in Gaza.
who the fuck are Israel to punish an an entire population? it's ILLEGAL under international law. do you get that? it's ILLEGAL. are you trying to say all of the Palestinians in Gaza are combatants???. like hell they are. they are mostly people just trying to live their life in peace, forced to live in apartheid conditions. ordinary beautiful people, families and children. how dare the Israel government treat them like that. are you people mad? how can you justify what you are doing??
they are locked up like animals and every single one of their basic human rights are denied because of the actions of a few??? they can't leave Gaza. they are stuck there, and i'm tired of listening to pathetic excuses of Israels disgusting and brutal behaviour.
the UN consistantly condemns the Israeli settlements in the occupied territories as illegal, and their treatment of the Palestinians as brutal and inhumane. the Palestinians have, and continue to sufffer years of physical and psychological violence and oppression at the hands of Israel. and you justify this?
sickening. leave them the fuck alone. the cruel and inhumane treatment of the Palestinian people has to end.

you know what i think?
you know damn well _outlaw will be back to post. you read his posts all the time. you have been for years. you know he always comes back to clarify.
so you can carry on minding your own business now.
Why should negotiations have any preconditions?
israel has no right to any settlement, they are illegal under international law, for a reason, and if defense is a concern there is a really easy way for israel to have peace. they can stop terrorizing the palestinians and taking their land. its like the british army attacking george washington back in the day. they had every right to defend themselves, but not with force-they were an invading army. their right to self defense came down to getting the fuck out.
the only obstacle to peace at this point is isreal.
in 2002 an agreement was reached, peace, if israel withdraws to the 1967 borders.
the fact that they haven't shows their desire for land is stronger than their desire for peace.
The problem everyones having isn't with the people of Israel but the zionist regime running ur country. U can type all u want about whatever it is ur talking about but ill keep saying it over and over, Israel does NOT want peace period. Ur people do but not ur government. And u seem to forget about the uss liberty and the stern gang??? How come all ur talk never mentioned those acts of terrorism. Who was the leader of the stern gang!???? Sharon!!!! And yet ur government has always been run by terrorists yet they dnt want to get I to talks with Hamas cuz it's a terrorist organization. Come on man, the Israelis are not the victims here. How can u as a human defend ur own country??? I'm not a Palestinian but I know what's wrong is wrong and what ur countrys governmnent is doing is flat out wrong.
Ok, I fairly confident from your tone that debate here isn't going to be productive, but here goes anyway. First, I object to your use of "zionist" in a derogatory manner. I consider myself a zionist, in as much as I believe that Jews, just like any other people, have a right to self-determination in our homeland. I recognize that the practical application of this is complicated, and has resulted in some bad stuff, but to my mind saying that zionism is illegitimate is tantamount to employing a double standard whereby everyone is entitled to the right of self-determination except the Jews.
You also don't seem to realize that Israel is a very vibrant democracy where the government is a reflection of the people. When Israelis felt that there was a partner for peace they voted candidates into government who promised to pursue peace as the main plank in their platforms (for example Rabin and Barack during the 1990's). When they felt there was no peace partner they voted for more right-wing candidates who promised more security. So I really don't know what you mean by Israel does not want peace, since a) they gave up land in an effort to make peace, b) a beloved national hero and prime minister, Rabin, was so committed to peace that he wouldn't let up on the Oslo process even in the face of violence from right-wing extremists that eventually led to his assassination, and c) from extensive first-hand experience I can tell you that most Israelis want nothing in the world more than peace, just they aren't about to get themselves killed for it.
Sharon was not in fact the leader of the Stern Gang. I don't think he even had any connection to the organization. And I don't have any idea what the USS Liberty has to do with any of this.
As for the government being terrorists, there have been members of the government over the years who had been members of pre-state terrorist organizations. They were not, however, engaging in terrorism while serving in the government. If Hamas would renounce terrorism and start policing all the other smaller terrorist groups in Gaza I would have no problem with Israel talking to them.

I'm not really trying to convince anyone. I'm pretty sure I said at the outset, or at least said in one of my recent posts that I don't think that many people who post on these Israel threads are open to seeing the other side. But just in case I thought I'd attempt to give you the Israeli perspective. I'm not trying to justify anything here. I think Israel treats the Palestinians like shit, and I'd really like to see that end. What I'm saying is that you don't seem either capable or willing to see that this conflict has many more victims than you acknowledge. Frankly I find it laughable that you think Israel is not under threat, because I've seen the threat Israel is under first hand. I doubt that I can get through to you, but trust me it's very traumatizing to be walking around not knowing if you're about to get blown up. People in America have no idea. Sept. 11 was a one time thing. In Israel, when I was there, terrorism was a constant threat, and it wasn't just at airports, it was everywhere. When you get on the bus, if you're even brave enough to get on the bus, the first thing you do is figure out where do I sit so that if a terrorist gets at the front and blows himself up I might survive. When you go to a cafe, after you are searched by the security guard at the front (all restaurants and cafes in Israel have security checks at the front) you move as far away from the door and windows as you can just in case a bomber is stopped by security and blows himself up at the front of the house. You never go downtown because it's too much of a target. You walk around constantly aware of everyone around you. Is that guy wearing a big coat trying to conceal a bomb belt. Are those wires coming out of that guys pockets a bomb or just a music player. My point is that you don't have a clue what Israelis have lived through, and if you did you'd realize that they have good reason to be afraid of the Palestinians. That is not meant to justify everything that is done to the Palestinians, just to say that you are only looking at one side of the story, and if you can't understand where the Israelis are coming from then you simply aren't going to ever have a complete understanding of this conflict.
you couldn't swing if you were hangin' from a palm tree in a hurricane

Why should negotiations have any preconditions?
israel has no right to any settlement, they are illegal under international law, for a reason, and if defense is a concern there is a really easy way for israel to have peace. they can stop terrorizing the palestinians and taking their land. its like the british army attacking george washington back in the day. they had every right to defend themselves, but not with force-they were an invading army. their right to self defense came down to getting the fuck out.
the only obstacle to peace at this point is isreal.
in 2002 an agreement was reached, peace, if israel withdraws to the 1967 borders.
the fact that they haven't shows their desire for land is stronger than their desire for peace.
What 2002 agreement was that? Please provide some details. Also, you simply aren't correct that all settlements are illegal. The drafters of UN resolution 242, which calls for Israel to return land captured in '67
have gone on record saying that they were very careful when drafting the resolution to write the language in such a way as to acknowledge that Israel's pre-'67 borders weren't defensible and that Israel had a legitimate right to seek to alter those borders as part of a peace settlement. Now, I think the entire settlement enterprise was a huge mistake, but it simply isn't right to say that Israel has no claims to some of the West Bank. They do have legitimate claims to the area in so far as they have a right to adjust the border as part of negotiations.
A related point: People keep saying Israel should do this or Israel should do that. None of you seem to take a second and try to understand that Israel has real security concerns, and isn't going to do anything that will put Israelis at risk. The occupation will end when there is an agreed peace treaty that provides guarantees for Israeli security. Saying that Israel should simply end the occupation with no guarantee that some schmuck with a rocket launcher isn't going to set up on a hilltop and start shooting down every jet coming into Israel's only international airport is simply you willfully ignoring reality. What is needed are practical solutions, not people being all self-righteous with no regard for reality.

and you still haven't explained what more the Palestinians should give up for peace? you don't understand why Israel should stop expand settlements on land that isn't theirs? really?
The Palestinians should give up violence, they should accept Israel's right to exist, and they should give up the right of return, which amounts to a demand that Israel commit demographic suicide. That's it. I do understand why Israel should stop expanding settlements. I said that I think there should be a complete building freeze. What I don't understand is why such a freeze has to be a precondition for negotiations. It never has been a precondition before, so why is it now?
you couldn't swing if you were hangin' from a palm tree in a hurricane
That is not meant to justify everything that is done to the Palestinians, just to say that you are only looking at one side of the story, and if you can't understand where the Israelis are coming from then you simply aren't going to ever have a complete understanding of this conflict.
you know Yosi, i sometimes get afraid of things too. an example; i'm very anti drink driving and of people who drink and drive and kill others. i've experienced that. sometimes i still get frightened on the roads, really bad, but i have to deal with that.
and that doesn't give me the right to imprison an entire polulation because they sell alcohol and may drink and drive and kill one day.
Commy, I don't know where this idea that there wasn't terrorism against Israelis before 1981 comes from. The list below also does not include the wars Israel was forced to fight in 1948, 1967, and 1973, which took a devastating toll on the country, and which are still mourned to this day on the Israeli day of remembrance for fallen soldiers, a national day of mourning and probably the most important day of the ritual year for Israelis, almost all of whom have lost someone close to them or that they at least knew.

I'm sorry but what difference does it make if a person is killed in a suicide bombing or by being shot, or knifed, or axed, or beaten to death? The point is that Israelis have been living with terror since before Israel existed, they're traumatized by it, and they aren't about to trust that all of a sudden the arab world that has spent half a century wanting to kill them has seen the light and wants nothing but peace.
you couldn't swing if you were hangin' from a palm tree in a hurricane
That is not meant to justify everything that is done to the Palestinians, just to say that you are only looking at one side of the story, and if you can't understand where the Israelis are coming from then you simply aren't going to ever have a complete understanding of this conflict.
you know Yosi, i sometimes get afraid of things too. an example; i'm very anti drink driving and of people who drink and drive and kill others. i've experienced that. sometimes i still get frightened on the roads, really bad, but i have to deal with that.
and that doesn't give me the right to imprison an entire polulation because they sell alcohol and may drink and drive and kill one day.
does it.
I didn't say Israel has a right to treat the Palestinians the way they do. They do however have a right to self-defense. Now you can say that Israel started it, but that is really pretty irrelevant at this point. There are people trying to kill Israelis, and you really can't expect Israel not to do anything about it. Again that is not to say that everything they have done is justified, but you aren't even granting that Israel has a right to protect itself. I'm not going to address your analogy at length because I think most reasonable people will be easily able to see the flaw, but lets say that instead of a drunk driver you had a sober driver who was chasing you around the neighborhood with his car trying to kill you (lets even say that you stole all his money, and burned down his house, so he has good reason to be pissed at you). The police certainly would have a right to imprison that person for attempted murder. Since in the real world there is no police to arrest Palestinian terrorists, it falls to the Israeli government to do what is the first obligation of any government, to protect its own people.

no Yosi, my logic is not flawed. you're the one that bought up fear. i'm saying fear does not give anyone the right to imprison an entire population, which is what is happening to the Palestinians people.
I didn't say Israel has a right to treat the Palestinians the way they do. They do however have a right to self-defense.
absolutely they have a right to self defense. not with violence. an invading army has a right to defend itself as by gettting the fuck out of occupied territory. its a very simple solution.
Now you can say that Israel started it, but that is really pretty irrelevant at this point. There are people trying to kill Israelis, and you really can't expect Israel not to do anything about it.
you need to ask yourself and answer, WHY are there people trying to kill israelis? they are stealing land and resources, dehumanizing and brutalizing an entire religion,, its ethnic cleansing.
Again that is not to say that everything they have done is justified, but you aren't even granting that Israel has a right to protect itself.
isreal can protect itself by getting out of occupied territories

it was an accurate analogy. you shouldn't punish everyone for the crimes of a few, making the situation worse.

I don't disagree with you. But you don't seem to understand that I'm not talking about irrational fear here. The Palestinians have given Israel very good reason to be afraid, and the threat Israel faces is very much a real one. Does this give Israel the right to as you say imprison the Palestinians. No I don't think so. But it does give them the right to take actions to defend themselves. Has Israel gone too far in seeking to defend itself. Yeah, probably they have. But all I'm trying to do is to get you guys to realize that the situation is much more complicated than you give it credit for, and to get you guys to try to just put yourself in Israel's shoes and try to tell me what they should do (real world answers that don't involve Israel just doing what you think is best for the Palestinians with no regard for Israel's interests).

its significant because when israel was wiping out villages...palestinians were "wounding 1 or 2". the violence was incredibly one sided (as it still is).
its also significant because it doens't give you the right to hide behind the veil of fear. Israel is on the offensive and crying about security? how does that work?
its probably very traumatic living in your situation, but how much worse must it have been for those living in gaza during Israel's latest attack? there;s was a constant fear...the sound of drones flying over head, the explosions, police as targets, schools as targets....no safe place...while the israeli war machine slaughtered over 1000 innocent people. that's fear.

It is this simple in my mind. If the Palestinians gave up violence, and proved to Israel that they were serious about policing the extremists who would still seek to carry out terror attacks, then I believe, from my years of having lived in Israel, and from everything I know about the thousands of Israelis that I've met, that the Israeli public would demand that Israel's government sit down and hammer out a peace deal with the Palestinians that would end the occupation.
The reason we disagree is that you believe that Palestinian violence against Israel is a result of the occupation. Everything that I have seen first hand, and that I know about the history of the conflict tells me that Palestinian violence against Israel predates the occupation, and would continue after the occupation ends. The occupation certainly doesn't help anything, but the conflict is not about the occupation originally. You also seem to forget that the worst violence came at exactly the moment when the Palestinians were least under Israel's thumb. During the Oslo process Israel gave the PA complete civil and military control over all the major Palestinian population centers. I think something like 98% of Palestinians in the West Bank were living completely under PA control. Now obviously the occupation hadn't ended, and negotiations hadn't gotten to a final agreement yet. But Israelis felt like they were finally on the verge of ending the occupation and getting peace, which they were very very happy about. And all of a sudden, at the very moment when peace seemed to be closest, comes the worst wave of terrorism the country has ever seen, and the only thing that ends it is the full out reoccupation of all the land Israel had ceded back to the PA. What Israelis have taken away from the experience is that the occupation is only one reason for Palestinian violence, and maybe not even the main reason for it. But of course the Palestinians will never say that the violence is really still a continuation of 1948, cause that wouldn't get them any sympathy. Hamas is at least honest. They admit that their violence is about 1948. It's about getting rid of Israel.

I don't get what you're trying to prove? I'm really not interested in getting into a pissing match about who is the greater victim. I don't doubt that people in Gaza have it worse than people in Tel Aviv. That much is obvious. What I'm saying is that your portrayal of the situation ignores the realities of the situation with regard to Israel's perspective. And unless you take Israel's perspective into account as well as the perspective of the Palestinians when you talk about what "should" be done, all you're doing is jerking off into cyber space showing everyone how good and righteous you are, how outraged you are by injustice, but you aren't saying anything that addresses a practical solution.
you couldn't swing if you were hangin' from a palm tree in a hurricane
I remember Pepe Silva saying recently that Sderot is an illegal settlement. It isn't. It is inside Israel's recognized 1967 borders, and is not illegal or a "settlement" as the term is used to describe communities in the occupied West Bank.
So is the following not true?:
'Israeli's built Sderot on the ashes of an ethnically cleansed Palestinian village called Najd.
Sderot was settled by Jews in 1951.
Najd's Palestinian villagers, approximately 620 in 1945, were expelled on 13 May 1948, before Israel was declared a state and before any Arab armies entered Palestine. UN Resolution 194 and also the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 13, Section 2, stipulate that the villagers of Najd have a right to return home to their personal property and to their native village.
Najd is 14 kilometres from Gaza. Palestinian Arabs own 12,669 dunums in Najd, although Israel refuses to honour their rights to their personal property, and refuses them their inalienable right to return home.
In 1945 Jews owned 495 dunums of land in Najd and public lands consisted of 412 dunums.
In short, Sderot is an illegally occupied territory stolen from Palestinians.'
Israelis look at this history of pre-occupation terrorism, and the fact that terror is directed largely not at soldiers, or settlers, or Israeli government institutions, and that the groups responsible for this terror (Hamas mostly) don't talk primarily about ending the occupation, but about destroying Israel, and they come to the conclusion that they are faced with implaccable enemies who want to destroy them.
So you think that the Jewish population which comprised just 20% had a legitimate claim to 56% of the land in 1947? Do you also think there was no terrorism from the Zionists prior to 1967? Also, Hamas was only founded in 1987. Why don't you try abiding by international law and the will of the whole of the International community - excluding the U.S - and withdraw to the legally recognized borders and then see what the Palestinians do? Let's be honest about this: You're simply trying to make excuses for, and justify, the occupation and the ongoing settlement building.
Israel has given up land for peace. Sinai they gave back to Egypt
The Sinai was never Israel's to begin with. You stole it during the 1967 war. Israel rejected the Egyptian peace offer in 1971 and only decided to accept it after realizing Egypt's military strength during the 1973 war.
and for most of the 1990's Israel was engaged in the Oslo peace process with the Palestinians which was predicated on the idea of giving up land for peace. I get the sense that many of you think that Israel wasn't serious about this process. I can tell you Israelis were very serious about this process, and were truly hoping that the whole thing would result in peace.
http://www.variant.org.uk/16texts/Chomsky.html
'The Oslo Peace Process was described quite accurately by one of the leading Israeli doves, Shlomo Ben-Ami (Foreign Minister under Ehud Barak and chief negotiator at Camp David). He said: "The goal of the Oslo Process is to establish for the Palestinians a neo-colonial dependency which will be permanent." That is to establish a bantustan in the Occupied Territories. (He was from the dovish end of the spectrum but it's a pretty narrow spectrum, as in most countries.) Throughout the Oslo process Israel and the US jointly (you can't do it without US authorisation or support) moved to institute a neo-colonial dependency that would be permanent, bantustans essentially as the model. So US-funded settlement programmes continued right through the Oslo years, peaking in the last Clinton / Barak years. And settlement plans were continued still further, Sharon escalated it - there is a spectrum but it's the same policy. The settlements are built with an eye for the future - take a look at a map...'
Israel had for about a decade been slowly ceding territory to the PA as part of the Oslo process. True, settlement building did not stop, but I believe that it slowed somewhat during this time, and I'm pretty certain that Oslo did not call for a freeze on building in settlements, because it envisaged an eventual final status deal where Israel would retain some major settlements while compensating the Palestinians for the land.
http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Middle_Ea ... Chomsky%29
'...After Oslo, Rabin and Perez immediately moved to expand settlement and development - took over about 30 percent of Gaza Strip - most of its meager resources. In the West Bank, the most crucial part of its development is what's called "Greater Jerusalem." "Greater Jerusalem" is a huge area extending from Ramallah to Bethlehem and as far east as Jericho. And since Israel is keeping the Jordan Valley, it essentially breaks up the West Bank into two cantons. There are other developments, which break it up into further ones.
Olso II, September 1995, spells all of this out further. There's the Palestinian Authority, which can sort of run affairs in downtown Nablus. And then, there's roughly a hundred, actually more than a hundred, scattered Palestinian settlements - separated from one another - and crucially isolated from the economic, cultural, and even the medical centers of Jerusalem —Centers of Palestinian life...'
My point in saying all of this is that the Israelis feel they made an effort to make peace, but were rebuffed. They then suffered through the worst wave of terrorism I think any country has ever seen, at exactly the moment when they thought they were closest to making peace. I happened to have been living in Jerusalem at the time, and trust me, it was scary.
And what prompted the intifada? Would you care to explain that for us?
I know this was very long, but I'm just trying to make you guys understand that yes, Israel does some terrible things to the Palestinians, but the situation isn't as cut and dry as you make it seem. If Israel believed that they could just end the occupation and there would be peace I'm pretty certain that most Israelis would demand the occupation end immediately. Unfortunately, Israelis are convinced that if they ended the occupation tomorrow nothing would really change, that terrorism would continue, only the Israeli army would no longer be as able to protect Israelis as well.
So, let me get this right? You're saying the Israeli's are engaged in this illegal occupation and are continuing to steal more and more land because the Palestinians have engaged in acts of terrorism?
I also wouldn't have a problem with the Palestinians granting amnesty to terrorists once they have a state. And didn't South Africa grant amnesty to people involved in Apartheid? And Germany didn't go after every last person who had been in the Nazi party. I think you're picking at very minute details here.
And what do you think should happen to Israel's terrorists, and those who stand accused of war crimes by the United Nations such as Benjamin Netanyahu and Tzipi Livni?
Look I'd like to see the occupation ended also, but you don't seem to realize that Israelis are looking out for themselves. From where they are sitting they tried to end the occupation, and would still like to, but until they are convinced that doing so isn't going to put them in mortal danger they aren't going to do it. Palestinian terrorism only makes them dig in even harder.
You're simply trying to turn reality on it's head.
If Israel wanted peace for it's citizens then the best way to achieve this would be to end the occupation and withdraw to the legally recognized borders. They could then fortify those borders and perhaps allow U.N peacekeepers to maintain the areas between. Instead, you choose to steal more and more land, and place isolated Jewish communities in illegal settlements surrounded by angry Palestinians.

Wow what?
this kind of terrorism did not exist before 1981.
while israeli aggression had been going on for some decades.
Not sure about what anyone else thinks, but I think these are excellent points that deserve to be addressed. _outlaw's response: "wow".
Apologies in advance if you were going to say something deeper than that and got interrupted, outlaw.
don't fool yourself that the firing of rockets compares to Israel's ongoing siege of Gaza. it's not anywhere close to ever being an even contest. it's not. there is only ONE side occupying the other. the Palestinians are imprisoned in Gaza and have no military force other than guns and homemade rockets. Israel, has the most sophisticated weaponry in the world at its disposal and uses it without mercy. they bomb Gaza Strip with F-16 fighter planes and helicopter gun ships. they target civillians. their response is completely disproportionate to the damage caused by the rocket fire from Gaza, which is a retaliation for Israel's aggression and illegal occupation. israel is NOT under threat. the number of Israelis killed and injured by rockets has been very few compared to the Palestinians killed in Gaza.
who the fuck are Israel to punish an an entire population? it's ILLEGAL under international law. do you get that? it's ILLEGAL. are you trying to say all of the Palestinians in Gaza are combatants???. like hell they are. they are mostly people just trying to live their life in peace, forced to live in apartheid conditions. ordinary beautiful people, families and children. how dare the Israel government treat them like that. are you people mad? how can you justify what you are doing??
they are locked up like animals and every single one of their basic human rights are denied because of the actions of a few??? they can't leave Gaza. they are stuck there, and i'm tired of listening to pathetic excuses of Israels disgusting and brutal behaviour.
the UN consistantly condemns the Israeli settlements in the occupied territories as illegal, and their treatment of the Palestinians as brutal and inhumane. the Palestinians have, and continue to sufffer years of physical and psychological violence and oppression at the hands of Israel. and you justify this?
sickening. leave them the fuck alone. the cruel and inhumane treatment of the Palestinian people has to end.
you know damn well _outlaw will be back to post. you read his posts all the time. you have been for years. you know he always comes back to clarify.
so you can carry on minding your own business now.
the only obstacle to peace at this point is isreal.
in 2002 an agreement was reached, peace, if israel withdraws to the 1967 borders.
the fact that they haven't shows their desire for land is stronger than their desire for peace.
If Hamas would renounce terrorism and start policing all the other smaller terrorist groups in Gaza I would have no problem with Israel talking to them.
and you still haven't explained what more the Palestinians should give up for peace? you don't understand why Israel should stop expand settlements on land that isn't theirs? really?
what are you but my reflection? who am i to judge or strike you down?
"I will promise you this, that if we have not gotten our troops out by the time I am president, it is the first thing I will do. I will get our troops home. We will bring an end to this war. You can take that to the bank." - Barack Obama
when you told me 'if you can't beat 'em, join 'em'
i was thinkin 'death before dishonor'

Palestinians & Israelis Killed in Gaza 12/27/08 - 1/18/09
I'm not really trying to convince anyone. That is not meant to justify everything that is done to the Palestinians, just to say that you are only looking at one side of the story, and if you can't understand where the Israelis are coming from then you simply aren't going to ever have a complete understanding of this conflict.
not a single suicide bombing on the list. and the few explosions mentioned wounded "dozens" or a 1 or 2 or 3, nothing on the scale we see today.
It never has been a precondition before, so why is it now?
and that doesn't give me the right to imprison an entire polulation because they sell alcohol and may drink and drive and kill one day.
does it.
Since in the real world there is no police to arrest Palestinian terrorists, it falls to the Israeli government to do what is the first obligation of any government, to protect its own people.
you need to ask yourself and answer, WHY are there people trying to kill israelis? they are stealing land and resources, dehumanizing and brutalizing an entire religion,, its ethnic cleansing.
isreal can protect itself by getting out of occupied territories
it was an accurate analogy. you shouldn't punish everyone for the crimes of a few, making the situation worse.
that's the truth
no Yosi, my logic is not flawed. you're the one that bought up fear. i'm saying fear does not give anyone the right to imprison an entire population, which is what is happening to the Palestinians people.[/quote]
The Sinai was never Israel's to begin with. You stole it during the 1967 war. Israel rejected the Egyptian peace offer in 1971 and only decided to accept it after realizing Egypt's military strength during the 1973 war.
http://www.variant.org.uk/16texts/Chomsky.html
The settlements are built with an eye for the future - take a look at a map...'
http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Middle_Ea ...
And what prompted the intifada? Would you care to explain that for us?
So, let me get this right? You're saying the Israeli's are engaged in this illegal occupation and are continuing to steal more and more land because the Palestinians have engaged in acts of terrorism?
And what do you think should happen to Israel's terrorists, and those who stand accused of war crimes by the United Nations such as Benjamin Netanyahu and Tzipi Livni?
You're simply trying to turn reality on it's head.
If Israel wanted peace for it's citizens then the best way to achieve this would be to end the occupation and withdraw to the legally recognized borders. They could then fortify those borders and perhaps allow U.N peacekeepers to maintain the areas between. Instead, you choose to steal more and more land, and place isolated Jewish communities in illegal settlements surrounded by angry Palestinians.
