"Glorified G" is an anti-gun song with lyrics mocking gun enthusiasts. The song was inspired by an incident in which drummer Dave Abbruzzese told the band he had just bought two guns which sparked a conversation about guns within the band. Vocalist Eddie Vedder about "Glorified G":
I didn't actually write that song...I was at a band rehearsal and just started writing down these things the guys were talking about. The band were having this conversation and I just took down the dialogue. One of the band members had just bought a gun. It was the drummer, actually. Ask him about it.[5]
Abbruzzese about "Glorified G":
I told our manager that I just bought a coupla guns and he told Jeff, and at rehearsal Jeff kinda blurted it out. And Eddie went, 'Whaaaat, you bought a GUN?' And I said, 'In fact, I bought two,' which ended up as the opening line of the song. I think it's fair to say Eddie was pretty outraged.[5]

I don't see the problem with owning/firing a gun. It hurts no one.

Thanks guys! Thats not really "bashing" him. Glad Ed wasn't being a punk-ass, because that would have been a punk-ass move.
Absolutely one of my favorite song, is Glorified G, but I couldn't disagree more with the meaning. I don't personally own a gun, but its a scary fucking place if my neighbor's aren't allowed to have one either. I mean, drugs are illegal, yet people are able to get those constantly. So if guns are illeagal the only one that will have them are the criminals. And more importantly it would weeken us as a country to not have guns. If the shit went down, we'd be fucked. Silly short-sighted thought that made a great song!
if you ban guns, the crooks will still get their hands on 'em. don't take away from the innocent who want to protect what's theirs.
edit: innocent & responsible.
Protect what's theirs? Is this the wild west? The whole if you ban guns only criminals will have them is a false premise.
THis thread will be move over to A moving train in 5...4...3...2...1...
Please apply some logic to your arguement. Please, if you can.
just like I said about the drugs, making them illegal will not prevent anyone from getting them that really wants to. The criminals will get them and the law abiding citizens will be screwed. I can go get some cocaine in about 20 minutes, yet it's illegal.
By the way, these times are far far wilder that the "wild west". Don't believe the movies.
well, if you ban guns, you also then ban the legal sale and manufacturing of guns as well. So eventully all guns will be only owned by criminals. Because someone "might" own a gun they are not protected from crime. Me having a gun at home to "protect my house and stuff" is really a rather silly concept. If someone broke in the odds of me being able to get the gun, load it, and use it before I was hurt are small at best. In fact my gun would probably just be stolen.
I love hunting, but if it meant some how making america safer I would give up my gun. I think banning recidivist criminals from the US would probably help keep us all safer, not giving up my hunting/recreational weapons.

Whoever actually believes that having more guns around doesn't equal more violence is an idiot- legal or not.
How about the children who lose their lives because their parents, who are trying to "protect" their families, can't hide their gun(s) well enough and their child thinks its a toy? There are wayyy to many cases of this and other instances where gun owners (who never have the intent to harm anyone) end up doing something lethal through misuse.
Many people are perfectly responsible gun owners so save me the speeches. Im not saying people shouldn't have the right to bare arms...but just because YOU might responsible doesn't mean others are. Its not just about people having the ability to get a gun whether its legal or not.
Yes, guns don't kill people....people kill people. But what do the people have? Guns.

Once someone broke into my house in the middle of the night. My step dad was asleep and had a loaded shotgun pointed at them before they made it out of the first room.
But thats not the only instance here. In general, criminals have to be wary that there is a good chance the home owner could have a gun. And the original purpose of the 2nd admendment was to keep our own government in check.
i dont see the song as being about banning guns as much as it is mocking the macho christian right wing assholes like those morons who bring their loaded firearms to places Obama is speaking. I have met plety of rednecks to which this song applies perfectly. In my opinion it is clearly a dig at the attitute of gun enthusiests rather than a song about banning guns.

I agree. Too many guns in this country.
Does each gun equal a certain number of shootings that they make occur?
That's like saying "more pencils, more incorrectly spelled words".
Sorry to disagree, but it's an incorrect premise.

If you make all guns illegal, only those who abide by the law will bring their guns in.
...thus, only outlaws will have guns. It's pretty simple math.

I hate to come across like a dork here, but I'm gonna bust out some Queen on you:
"A gun never killed nobody, you can ask anyone; people get shot by people... people with guns."

But, people also have knives. Don't they?
Children and adults are also killed by knives, accidentally and intentionally. I don't blame the knives nor categorize knives as bad.
So, just to be fair to all objects I can think of off the top of my head...
Knives kill people
Cars kill people
Baseball bats kill people
Guns kill people
Airplanes kill people
Cliffs kill people
Glass kills people
