Wow you need help my friend. Your missing out on a great band and a great album. But each to their own I guess. The sound of AIC is alot to do with Jerry who is a cool guy with great integrity. Im sure Layne would have been happy that his friend was carrying on with the band. He died but the rest didn't so I hope they have great success and I will be there to enjoy it with them.

So i guess if by chance(god willing it'll NEVER happen) that eddies gone and pj decide to get a new frontman and still call themselves pearl jam all of u would jump with joy and decide to go??? All I'm saying is change ur the name of the band, and if ur serious bout aic being a Jerry band, go and listen to any of there songs, it's layne's voice that mezmorizes u. Dnt get me wrong Jerry is a bad ass but come on man, we all know it was Layne who was the chains...they shouldve called themselves Who's Alice. That wouldve been clever and still have the AIC feel to it.. Strictly my opinion

I don't disagree that Layne pretty much = AIC, but if people are having a good time at the new shows and dig the new album, then so be it. I think Axl Rose is a complete ass for continuing on with the GnR name and ruining their reputation as one of the all time greatest bands, but I don't slag on those who like Chinese Democracy or saw any of the more recent shows. Why waste your energy? Go post about something you actually enjoy...it's much more fulfilling.

Would I check out PJ without Eddie? I'd be curious enough for a show or two. I wouldn't see 6-7 shows a tour like I do now, but I'd see what they were capable of for sure. Why not? What do I have to lose...a few bucks?

Your right. It is strictly your opinion. One that I dont share at all. Jerry was and is the driving force of the band. Lets be honest about that rather than hankering after something which is not true.

He does in some respects but its better they someone who sounds like him. But they didn't pick him because of that.. William was in Jerry's solo tour support band.

Also Jerry wrote all the music pretty much so yeah AIC is Jerry really.. obviously Layne has a great voice etc but he wouldn't be able to have used it if it wasn't for Jerry.

I'd agree with that. Saw AIC not long ago and they were amazing. It doesn't matter what they call themselves its a good album and they are outstanding live. Thats the important bit.

    This.

Anyone who doesn't realize that Jerry has always been AIC isn't that much of a fan.

I think some people get popularity mixed up with that person being the creative drive in a band.

    Jerry is AIC.

Layne has an amazing voice, no doubt, but those haunting harmonies are al over Cantrells solo work and new AIC. Totally jerry's handiwork.

I'd say its an 80/20 split.

Exactly. Jerry is Alice In Chains...Layne was/still is a singer worthy of his legacy and played an important part in their image and sound...but Jerry is the brain child behind Alice In Chains. He waited a good long while to revive AIC...and I think he is doing it justice.

Also if they had a different name they would still get referred to as the guys from AiC

"Oh I'm going to see XXXX on Friday ... you know the guys from AiC"
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?

The new singer cannot compare to Layne. The Staley/Cantrell harmony is undeniably the best in rock EVER. But with two original members and the third practically an original, the band has every right to carry on as AIC
fuck 'em if they can't take a joke

and???they will stop making music?they will not try?william is not Layne..so what?...he is William ,a great artist, great on scene and needs respect..i prefer them like this than NO AIC at all

Damn skippy - AIC with William is way better than no AIC. Haven't heard them live yet (I didn't get a chance to see them when they played in Houston last year... goddamn job), but their new album freaking rocks.

Be thankful they picked a dude with street cred who respects the legacy to front them and didn't turn it into another season of Rockstar lol
And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.

Agreed. William isn't trying to fill Layne's shoes...he's respectful and well aware of the void that is present, he's just doing the best of his abilities to add a missing element without trying to completely imposter Layne. William is 100% okay in my book, in fact...I respect him for taking the bold step into becoming a member of the band...that's an awful big burden to bare from those fans who didn't have any hope in him because he was "replacing Layne."

Whatever layne overdosed the band can continue to play music if they want. Sure it's not the same without Layne but the new singer is awesome.
Plus it gives kids like me a chance to see them live =D

There's no reason they can't call themselves AIC. Bands sometimes go on with new members when one of them dies.

Why shouldn't Jerry get to tour with their songs? Can't you tell that his voice is part of a lot of the old songs? Can't you tell that he wrote most of the music? Should he have to leave the old songs unplayed because his friend sadly passed away?

And, their new cd is good, don't you think?! :D

    What he said.
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V
  • Replacing lead singers is always going to disrupt a band much more than, say, a lead guitarist. Jerry Cantrell has been as much a part of Alice in Chains as Layne was. His influence can be heard on every album and he was becoming more of a driving force on later albums.

I think people should be grateful that he's taken the step to continue with the band and, let's be honest, he didn't exactly rush into it following Layne's death, did he? He can hardly be accused of cashing in on sympathy, can he?

Would you rather that all those great Alice In Chains tunes never saw the light of day again? Were never played live again?

Everyone has an opinion, but there's a difference between discussing it openly and bluntly criticising people because you don't agree.

I, for one, am glad to see them back. Black Gives Way To Blue is a fantastic album and if you don't want to listen to it, then don't. Your choice and I'll lose no sleep over it.
It's gonna be a glorious day...

Ok all u AIC genious, if jerry was "the band" then I'm just curious to say why didn't ANY of jerrys solo albums turn out great. But I bet u guys will say his work was the shit. Whatever, this can go back and forth and hey everybody knows everything about music and they're all right and no ones wrong. All I'm pissed about is them calling themselves AIC, that's bullshit and all u fuckers know it. Come on already, how can u call ur self AIC when ur fucken original frontman died???? This is a fucken joke, oh and I'm also curious to know who wrote the lyrics to there songs, cuz I assumed it was Layne and those fucken lyrics moved me a hell of a lot more than jerrys guitar....I'm sorry but I'll go heads up with anyone bout this shit. I loved AIC more than pj when they all came out and I'm fucken pissed that they would call themselves AIC and that people on this board actually tell me that they lstened to aic cuz of jerrys riffs and not that fucken mesmorizing voice of Layne... Give me a fucken break... Hey I got an idea, let's have Dave and Kris hire me as a singer cuz I really do sound like curt and we can break out the new nirvana!!!! I'd invite everyone on the board for the show, shit I even look a little like curt too so what the hell, bring all the bands back and we can have a go at it again.
