I remember when this place used to be a group of people that would basically do anything to help one another out, from helping someone who lost everything in a fire, to helping someone see the band for the first time, to sending money to a late board members family.


Now it seems as though it's filled with people who like nothing better than to shoot people down, often in very nasty ways.

Not everyone has the means to buy everything they can on Pearl Jam. I'm not saying that about this man, but I'm saying, in the past, the people who came to this board would have gladly helped him out.

Now, too many people here are just selfish and mean.

I appreciate this response, but I can also understand the skepticism that many have expressed. I can completely see how this can be perceived as a scam artist move, and don't fault people for seeing it at that level.

If I wanted to beg and scam, I could have said something like I lost my collection in a fire or a robbery, or whatever, and elicited some sympathy from fellow fans. Back in the 1980's, I actually had a large trunk full of Grateful Dead bootleg tapes ripped off out of my car during a Dead show of all places. My friends and their friends pulled together without my knowledge and compiled a decent collection of shows for me to replace the ones that were stolen. I never asked them to do this, and their doing so was strictly out of the goodness of their hearts. This was one of those acts of kindness that I never forgot. In fact, I took that collection and gave it to someone in it's entirity, as I lost interest, and they were still very much into the whole Dead scene. Life has it's moments where people step up and do things that are unexpected and generous and kind.

With this request, I am simply seeing the outcome of a seemingly innocent request/experiment. Where it goes and what transpires going forward should prove very interesting. Stay tuned.

There's the problem, by your actions, the results are not unexpected... you are expecting and wanting, actually searching out and asking for these bootlegs. As others have said, try some B&P's and throw in an extra bootleg for an unexpecting person and see what, if anything comes of it. Give people a chance to show their generosity and kindness on their own terms, rather than ask for and expect and anticipate it. That would be a better "experiment".

I have to agree with you. It is getting increasingly more difficult to come around here. I have been reading and coming on the board since there was a board. This was the very first place I registered to interact with people on the internet. I can tell you the place has changed, and it ain't for the better.

If you don't have the means to have everything, then you don't get everything. Plain and simple. You do without. I think you'll survive without having every single live cd.

Losing things in a fire is one thing. Saying you saw someone else begging for free stuff and decided to give it a try is something else. The guy has two jobs, yet wants free stuff. Then saying to call this an "experiment" is a joke. It's an experiment in how stupid some people are to give money and cd's to someone who doesn't NEED them.

He wants more Pearl Jam, he can get himself a third job and not be a bum.

PJ Lukin, don't you miss the old days around here? This is the very first place I came to interact on the internet and it happened quite by chance, I had no idea what I had clicked onto when I went to the PJ site all those years ago. And since then, some wonderful things have happened here by the generosity and general kindness of people. Nowadays, you're lucky to through ANY SINGLE THREAD without somebody being mean or nasty. It's a shame really because we're all here with a commonality, the love for this band, too bad we can't spread that to each other.

Funny, I remember in the days of the listserve and usenet, people would have been lining up to take shots at this guy (especially in digest form). His treatment in this thread has been pretty tame, really. He would have gotten a lot of shows (and I'm quite sure he will here) but to pretend no one would have given him flack is a little revisionist.

Sure, it's never as good as it was in the old days...truth is, it wasn't all roses then, either, but we tend to keepthe good and gloss over the bad. It's just human nature.

I tried to offer up a couple of B&P's on here and they were removed,. Either that or no one responded and they were lost in oblivion! Actually, I'm sure that at least one of them were removed. His "Vic Claim" as you refer to it is very possible to have happened and been removed. Just saying that when people try to bring Red Mosquito qualities over here, it doesn't always work.
