As far as getting a job, I have two. In addition, I have a family and several other responsibilities - including many volunteer obligations. But this thread is not about that... this is about something I thought I would attempt experiment with.

You can't really blame people for the negative comments about your "experiment". I for one think this is a bit strange. The music is out there man. Go get it. Sharing PJ music isn't something new. What exactly is the point of this so called experiment?????

See these are the issues as I see them when it comes to the responses you are getting and what people are thinking.

First) Just because your a begger doesn't mean your a dumb begger.

No one with any brains is going to post on here and say "give me all your shit for free because i don't feel like going through all the work or spending any money"

Someone with half a brain will apeal to people in some way in order to get what they want. Apealing to peoples good nature is a good start.

Second) Lots of people have gone out and started a collection if they wanted. Is there a need for you to be the central hub of bootleg giving. Are you the "pay it forward bootleg guy"? Again... is there a need for one?

Third) If you can not download then why not say so in the begining? If you don't know how to use Torrents then why not ask for help or do some research? It just makes it look like you are looking for the easy way out by apealing to the hippy segment of this board. Free love, free bootlegs... I get it.

I could be totally off base here. But that is what is going through the minds of those that doubt your true motivations. I am not saying you are malicious or you did it intentionally. You wanted something and it was a very easy solution to your problem to type up a quick post and hope for the best. I hope you get some boots. Good luck.

There is no need to be nasty about it. I'd rather you see where people are coming from then just think everyone is plain stingy and mean. Take myself as an example. I for one would love to have a large collection of boots if they fell in my lap. But i don't want it bad enough to go through mailing out cds and trading and what not. I don't have the bootleg eye of the tiger! I buy all the shows i go to plus a couple more each tour. I have figured out how torrents work and have downloaded a few here and there. I've taken it as far as i am willing to go. But if i was serious and really wanted to go bootleg crazy I would get involved with the trading culture and I am sure it would be fun and rewarding. I would not beg.

bingo thats the key, people in the trading or B&P culture whatever you wanna call it are very serious in the rules.im good friends with a board member whos into the B&P culture and never once have i asked her to give me dvds of concerts for free and never once has she offer to give them to me for free.thats how serious the trading culture is.

Just as an FYI, I have done some B&Ps and will continue to do so - this is not about that. In fact, and there are a few on this board who can attest to the fact that most times when I have done a B&P, I have thrown an extra blank CD in the mix as a thank you. Knowing that people won't accept money, I have always figured that an extra CD would be a little token of my appreciation for the help they are providing, and give them something that they can use.

For those asking if I will share the love, I said from day one that that was part of the driving force behind this. I offered to do a B&P for the Vic show, as someone here advertised that they had it and I wanted it. They would not do a B&P - instead they insisted on sending it to me for free!!! I have in turn shared it with 4 people (sent for free), and the heartfelt thanks I received made it worth the couple of bucks that I spent. When I received it for free, I was beside myself and knew I wanted to make someone else's day. If any of the 4 that I have shared it with felt even a fraction of the joy that I felt when I received it, then I can put my head down tonight and feel proud.

If that adds some insight to this, fantastic!! If that fuels the fire of anger for others, I am sorry. I can honestly say that I understand how some of you might view this as a scam or a ploy to cheese people out of something that other's work hard for. I get that! However, the Vic experience has reinforced that sometimes there are little things that we can do that enthrall others, and for most of us those magical moments happen way too infrequently.

For those that have or will take part in this experiment, THANK YOU.
For those that don't get it and think I am a dirtbag, no worries. I hold no ill-will or anger. You are entitled to your opinion, and I totally respect it.

At this time, I will continue to move forward with this little experiment - and look forward to seeing how things continue to play out.

I understand what you are saying, and understand how you can view this as a self serving move to get, get, get. As I mentioned in my last post, when I was given the Vic show, I in turn sent it to 4 people in return - again, asking for nothing from the recipients. I offered the person who sent it a B&P, and he refused, saying he wanted to just hook me up. I was thrilled, he was pleased to be able to make my day for such a little out of pocket expense, and I in turn did the same for four other people. It felt really good to be able to make those 4 people happy, and if each of them sent it to one other person, there are now at least 9 people that benefitted from the kindness of one person.

As this experiment moves forward, it is my hope that more and more people will be infected by this wave of kindness, and at the end of the day we all feel a little better about ourselves and our Pearl Jam community.
