why is it every conservatve on every board i eead cites rasmussen reports polls? do you not think that the increase in people against it the last few weeks has to do with the death of the public option? that is why me and most liberals are against the senate bill. i am sure more people favor the house bill.

Pretty good link but it was three hundred million......she said so herself. Also can not remember the name or the state but another vote was bought for an exemption on the medi care extension. Which means we all pay a little more while this state pays nothing extra towards that paticular part of the bill. Think maybe it was Nelson but not sure.

    From your referenced source:
"Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu, one of three lawmakers being wooed by Democratic leaders to back health-care legislation, won the inclusion of an extra $100 million in federal aid for low-income people in her state.
Landrieu, a Democrat, has championed federal aid for rebuilding Louisiana since Hurricane Katrina devastated the New Orleans area in 2005.
"It is something she has been working on for a long time,” spokesman Robert Sawicki said of the aid, which the Congressional Budget Office estimated at $100 million. Still, he said, Landrieu hasn’t decided whether to back Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid’s bid to start debate on the bill."
    ...
This sounds like the way Congress works... and has worked since the days of Washington and Jefferson. Representatives negotiate their backing of a bill in order to get federal funding to the people they represent.
Representative Ed Royce negotiates bills to get military appropriations that funds programs in his district... and has been doing it for years.
And don't you want YOUR representative to negotiate for federal funds in YOUR district?

You have your information all crossed up... which comes as no surprise. And have you and the Tea Party just become aware as to how Congress works? Or do you really believe that all if these types of deals began on January 20th of this year?
You are confusing Louisiana with Nebraska. Maybe if you studied up and got your Tea Party's misinformed allegations straight, you wouldn't be getting your panties in a such a bunch.
    And... Merry Christmas to you.

Cosmo, she did recieve 300 million. Nelson I got crossed up, he recieved 100 million. There is also another sen. that got his state exemption from the medi care extension which means you and I will be paying more(unless you live in his state). All states are supposed to be treated equal. This is how congress is supposed to be run????? Merry Christmas

So... you voted for your representative to vote to get funds directed for my district in Southern California? Is that how it works? Because all this time, I have been voting for my district's representatives to negotiate and vote for appropriations of Federal fund for economic opportunities in MY district... not yours. Sorry. All this time, I thought the term, 'Representative' meant Representing the voters of his district.

Well that's great then I guess. These reps that have been bought out are doing a fantastic job for their district! Good for them.

That is WHY you vote for them. You vote for a Representative to REPRESENT your Congressional district in the Federal Government. There's a reason why they are called, 'Representatives'... to represent YOU.
So... it goes back to the original question... a Representative that negotiates a deal to get Federal Funding to her constituients in her home state is evil because.... ?

We'll see. All these shallow deals that have been made with our tax dollars to these onion skin politicians are being investigated. I believe there will be a hearing on it and something might be done about it. If votes have been bought and people have been bribed in the past I have not ever heard anything about it. And I vote for my representative because I like her or his beliefs and I want them to represent those beliefs. Not so she or he can be bought out and bribed against those beliefs. And I do not see where getting your state exempt from the medi care extension is getting federal funding to a state. That is very clearly a bribe. They don't have to pay the extra tax so therefore the rest of us better pick up the slack and pay more. Mr. Obama should sit down and study the constitution that he is supposed to be protecting because he clearly does not understand it.

So... you DO believe that there haven't been deals made in Congress up until now? Really? Maybe you never heard of Congressional Deals because you haven't been paying attention until January, 2009. And just because you haven't heard of them, doesn't mean they didn't go down. Why do you think that Congress historically and consistantly gets an approval ratings in the low 20s at best?
And the "bribe" you speak of... who is getting it?
I think you might want to review your High School Government and American History classes because it sounds like those were the ones you skipped out on. If any one needs the Constitution explained to them... it's... well, here... go here:

  • Just a random thought to throw out there...

Personally, I would not want to rely on our government to give me any kind of healthcare, although I am broke and would Love to receive free help when I am sick. But firstly, our economy is crumbling so any assistance they could offer will probably be mediocre at best. Second, I have seen the healthcare offered to our veterans by the government, and it sucks.

So I guess my personal solution is preventative medicine. Do yoga, run, work out, stay fit, eat right, and keep yourself in a positive mindset (as our thoughts and emotions affect our physical body as well). Stay the hell away from McDonald's and be careful when operating heavy machinery :D

I agree with you... 100% here. I don't want to be on a Government Program because of the historical record of those programs. They get bogged down with all sorts of regulations and documentation due to the use of public funds. But, for many Americans... they have nothing... zero. So, something is better than nothing. For those of us who get our health care insurance through our employers, we're okay and a move to a publicly run operation would be a giant step down. So, it is in our best interests to NOT choose a public option and stick with our private insurance companines.. since our employers are footing the bulk of the bill. We lose our jobs and guess what? We lose our insurance unless we can come up with the funds our employers were previously paying. That is a hefty bill to pay, especially when our source of income vaporizes.
    ...
And I agree with the preventative medicine approach. But no matter how much we excercise and watch what we eat... how can we prepare ourselves in case of an accident? We step out our front door to fetch the mail and slip on some ice and bash the back of our skull... or slip in the shower... or a million other unforseen faultless accidents. What then? Without any access to health care... we suffer.
