sorry to impose on the anti-obama wank fest, but you all know you can get your daily outrage on fox news, right? there are plenty of outraged folks on there.

for the record there are plenty of liberals who are angry and feel like they were used to get the man elected and then tossed aside once in office. i have felt like that before on a few occasions.

my outrage lies not so much with obama, but with how 2 senators can derail and dictate what the other 98 of them vote on.

also, for the record, obama is a centrist, so how can you guys be here bashing him for being liberal? i am a liberal, and obama is not one of us. when moveon.org is complaining about you, you are not a liberal.

i think it speaks volumes of how informed our people are when somebody in this thread referred to "fiscal responsibility" as "physical responsibility".

I guess I should have prefaced my original post by saying that I wasn't directing this at the President at all. So I don't know how we got onto that tangent, because the last time I checked he wasn't in Congress, and even though the Prez may think he has some pull there, those fools are mainly going to do whatever they want.

With that, I totally agree with you. I'm pissed at the few senators that seem to be showing insane control over the thoughts and actions of everyone else. That is what I meant when I asked where is the outrage. How can people stand for this? I totally respect the differences of opinion between Liberals and Conservatives, those differences are what make our country great. However, when you have both groups pissed off at you and you STILL move ahead, then to me, that exposes the severity of the corruption within our government.

I do believe that some sort of reform is needed, but it's a pretty tricky balancing act. You can't just tac on another trillion dollars of debt, when we are already so far in the hole. I don't care what program it is they want to implement, whether its health care, free homes, college tuition or whatever it may be. If they say, hey we're going to give you free tuition to any school and the program is going to cost $4 trillion, then they had better have cut $4 Trillion from somewhere in our budget.

"You said then that you wanted 'to teach the stupid bastards in the military a lesson'. I'd have thought you'd have loved the army. Guns. Travel. Danger." "Back then, I didn't even understand what World War II was."

It's pretty obvious that the biggest benefactor in all of this will be the huge insurance companies. Why is there no outrage that the Democrats are pushing this through? Can you imagine the uproar if this had been a Republican move, and the accusations of them doing this to benefit the insurance industry?

Maybe I'm reading the highlights of this bill wrong, but does anyone know of anything good that comes out of it?
I am outraged. This is just one of many cases in which Obama claims to NOT be sleeping with big business when it couldn't be clearer that he is.

So yes, I am outraged. But mostly with the American voters. Take ten minutes to actually research the candidates next go round. Fucking lazy, ignorant, self-absorbed motherfuckers. Obama has done exactly what I expected him to do - not much. And certainly not much good.

Hmmm..how did I know this? Because I didn't spend my time listening to talking heads. I did a little research and found out who Obama really is. He's a crook and a liar - the standard politician.

Can anybody name ONE ? JUST ONE, domestic government program thats not a complete cluster fuck ? As far as I know there are'nt any. So why does anybody in their right mind think that this is going to be any different ?

I guess some of these are considered gov't offices and not technically "programs", but off the top of my head, these seem to not be complete cluster fucks:

    Student Financial Aid
    National Weather Service
    Small Business Administration
    ATF
    National Park System
    Coast Guard
    Copyright Office
    FAA
    Smithsonian Institute

I was thinking more along these lines..

There are many examples of government-run programs. Social security was established in 1935. This was to be completely voluntary. Participants would only have to pay 1 percent of their salary on the first $1,400 of their income. The money put into the program would be deductible from their income tax each year. The money would go into an independent trust fund and never into the general operating fund.

At one time there was so much money in the fund that Congress couldn't stand it. They transferred the money to the general operating fund and spent it. Now the employees and their employers are required to pay 15.3 percent of the employees salary into the system. They now say the fund is about to go broke. Social security isn't welfare, it is a retirement insurance run by the federal government.

The Medicare and Medicaid program was started in 1965. The President and Congress know that there are billions of dollars wasted from mismanagement and fraud each year and have said that if the proposed health care bill would increase the national debt one penny they would cut it out. What is wrong with now? I guess the small amounts of millions and billions are so small they aren't worth fooling with.

The Department of Energy was established in 1977 for one purpose — to lessen our dependence on foreign oil. We import more oil now than we did then. The Department has grown to 16,000 full-time employees with as many as 100,000 contract employees with an annual bubget of $24 billion. There have been hundreds of billions of dollars wasted by the department over the last 31 years.

Fannie Mae was established in 1938 and Freddie Mac was established in 1970. They are both broke. There are many more programs that need to be reformed or eliminated before we start another program that will increase the national debt. When you look at the track record on government-run programs I can't believe anyone would want more of them.

We need less federal government control and more local and state control. The people of this state can't vote out people like Nancy Pelosi but we can those of our own state if they overstep their bounds. The people of the states send our federal taxes to Washington, they send back a small portion to the states and we are suppose to thank them for this hand out. We need to send less to Washington, keep more in the states and take care of our own needs.

I for one sure don't want the federal government controlling my health care.

Values of Health Care Stocks Increase Fearlessly as Public Option Is Dead
    Tuesday, 22 December 2009

Wall Street Celebrates Senate's "Significantly Watered Down" Health Care Bill

    Dear Friends,

Wall Street is celebrating "Health Care Reform." According to an industry insider report yesterday by MarketWatch (Gibson and Britt) health care stocks rallied as the bill moved through the Senate, particularly since there is no public option in the bill to compete or compare with insurance company rate-making.

"Health care investors find themselves having confronted their greatest fear, and, while there will be legislation, it will be significantly watered down ..." said Mike O'Rourke, chief market strategist at BTIG LLC. As a result, shares of Aetna gained 4.7%, while Cigna rose 3.9%. United Health and Wellpoint "rallied to 52-week highs."

Once the bill becomes law, insurance companies will gain at least 26 million new customers and as much as $50 billion in new annual revenue from private-pay and from government subsidies as people will be required by law to purchase private insurance. While certain expenses are capped in the bill, it appears that premium costs are not.

The Senate's move prompted Gregory Nersessian of Credit Suisse to raise his price targets [predicting greater strength of stock performance] on seven insurers: Aetna, Cigna, Amerigroup Corp., Humana Inc., Molina Healthcare Inc., UnitedHealth Group Inc. and Wellcare Health Plans Inc.

" ... the [bill] is a positive first step" Nersessian said in a note to clients. "The heavy lifting will come when Congress is forced to slow the rate of medical cost growth through more aggressive payment restrictions and utilization controls down the road," he said - meaning that this particular industry insider is predicting limitations on benefits.

Marketwatch also wrote that none of the new standards on how much the industry must spend on medical expenses will "impose great hardship on any insurers."

Isn't that what Representatives are supposed to be doing... bring in money to the state they Represent? And is that any different from Sam Nunn or Ed Royce voting on military programs that bring money that translates to jobs and economic boost to their states or districts?
    ...
Where is the full story... the one that says who paid who for this? Was it a hospital? A Doctor? A University? Who paid for her vote?

i think it speaks volumes of how informed our people are when somebody in this thread referred to "fiscal responsibility" as "physical responsibility".

What ? You mean you don't want our elected officials to take care of themselves ? You would rather they just spend our tax dollars and not listen to what their constituents expect from them ? And you call your self a liberal ?

every poll i have seen says that americans want health insurance reform and greater than 60% want a public option or single payor. i am for single payor so in my opinion this senate bill goes nowhere near far enough. maybe we can get the house bill passed which has a public option. by the way, i do not get your reply. if it was sarcastic it makes no sense, and you trying to play off your comment about "physical responsibility" makes you look silly.

why don't you offer a suggestion on how to fix this other than your party line of "NO NO NO WAHHH!!!!"

    what about this poll then.
