Last year I stayed right on the edge of the Quarter. This was good because the fest ends at around 8 at night. So it was easy for us to walk around the Quarter. We each paid 15 bucks to take buses to and from the festival. That worked well. This year we're in the Garden District. I think it's close to the trolley line so that's how will get around town. I wouldn't plan on driving. Its just a pain. try the Days inn on Canal. That's a good spot. Better hurry too.

I assume that hotel prices get jacked up during the festival, much like Chicago hotels during Lolla in '07?

the only thing that I'm afraid of is that I get a room (though priceline) for the wrong night and then I can't cancel it. From what everyone is saying, they will probably play on Saturday night, but it's not 100%, so I wanted to book the room and be able to cancel it if need be.

I think there's gonna be a tour announcement today. That's what Kat posted yesterday. So you could wait a few hours & see.

no need to rush into booking a hotel. at least that has been my expierience. I think i booked my Philly hotel about 6 weeks out and got a room downtown (crowne Plaza) for $60. Just about everyone that didn't get the 10c deal paid more by rushing it.

I'm headed down to SC (marriott) next week and got a hotel for $60 as well. it took a 10 days or so for them to finally drop it to that amount. once again, i booked about 6 weeks out.

both done via priceline name your own price

    your results may vary

I'm thinking Philly in late October is nothing like Jazz Fest in New Orleans

maybe with the economy the rooms won't sell out and you'll have luck on priceline

but i've booked the Omni Royal and will cancel if i find something better

also i'd be careful with priceline

i've been at a hotel that was too far down off bourbon... gun shots at night

so ... research before you leap

    better bidding - google it

Most of the hotels i looked at were already full. They do jack up prices a little, but I was able to book a room at Bourbon Orleans. It is in the French Quarter and I've always enjoyed my stay there.

I also would suggest being careful with priceline. You don't want to be in certain parts of town. As long as you are right around the quarter or in the quarter you should be good.

  • For those of you who are familiar with Jazz Fest, I'm trying to figure out when to buy my tickets, money is a bit ight right now. I know its GA (besides the package deals) so I'm not worried about that, just if there's a possiblility they might sell out soon.

Any idea on number of tickets they sell??? Should I buy now or will I still be safe to buy after the Holidays???

    Thanks!
  • Havent had the chance to check out the details. How much is a one day pass?

    About $53 after TM charges...

I'm not sure on how many tickets they sell but I don't recall ever hearing it sell out. I would think you are safe to wait until after the holidays.

Can you book a room for all nights and then cancel? Are there required minimum stays? In the past hotels do get booked full for this weekend. We supposedly got the last room available from two hotels and we booked the nite tickets went on sale. There's a days inn or holiday on canal street that i think would be the cheapest. Also, worst case scenario you can do the trip one day from here. Show will be over around 7 or 8.

My advice is book the room but do so with a refund policy. My room at the Omni can be cancelled all the way up to the Thursday before PJ weekend.

Then keep your eye out for better deals. Whether by searching yourself or keeping an eye on this board for others and their priceline wins. There are also sites like BetterBidding.com that help you get the best deal.

yeah, I was thinking about booking for the entire weekend just in case, but I know they wouldn't let me cancel the other two nights and just take the one night. I was thinking- if they play on Saturday night, I would get Friday and Saturday night- and that way I would be able to party on Friday night when I get there and then go to the show on Saturday night and then just leave on Sunday. I just need to get on it!!!!!

Does anyone know when they usually announce the schedule?
