I am going to wait it out. There is no reason for me to rush this decision. If other dates come along, I'll see what those are. If nothing ever comes along, I'll probably wind up going to NO.
And just 3 short days ago we talked to each other....
And both of us agreed that we dont need to go to any shows anytime soon....
Once again...
WE ARE BOTH FULL OF SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hehehehehehehehehehe
Isn't that the truth?
Honestly though, the only way I go to this is if there is nothing else around me. I could see a 3 day weekend in NO. But I am not making any plans right now.

Well, I have just discussed this with Kathy....
I love my Christmas Tree....I really do
But I dont love it enough to have it shoved up my ass......
In other words....
I will not be going to New Orleans to see Pearl Jam....
hehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehe
Take me piece by piece..... Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....

hmm..good point. maybe i jumped a bit too early. i think we'll wait & see if they play anywhere else that's close first as well. but $60 at the gate isn't bad at all!
Beale Street, ACL, Coachella, Mile High, Lolla, Bonaroo, Summerfest, Bamboozle, Outside Lands, Monolith, Jazz Aspen, Blues and Brews...amongst others that I have been too have never taken the front rows.
this fest is different-not comparable to rock fest or smaller blues and jazz fests
hard to explain, but its been very popular with VIPs for a very long time
anyway, we shall see-hard to believe they would have a VIP front section for MMJ or PJ
Go read about the Grand Marshal VIP access on the site...it states Pearl Jam as one they have front row access to.
The Grand Marshal VIP Pass
A very limited number of Jazz Fest fans can upgrade their Festival experience to a pass that allows exclusive access to an upfront, golden circle viewing environment at the Festival’s three main stages: The Acura Stage, The Gentilly Stage, and The Congo Square Stage.
The Grand Marshal VIP Pass is designed for the Festivalgoer who wants the luxury of moving from stage to stage, combined with the thrill of seeing Jazz Fest’s world-class performers up close. Grand Marshal VIP ticketholders in 2010 can enjoy front-stage viewing privileges to see artists such as:
1st Weekend Artists (April 23, 24, 25)
Artist TBA, Lionel Richie, Allman Brothers Band, My Morning Jacket, Anita Baker, Dr. John, Darius Rucker, The Black Crowes, Steel Pulse, Band of Horses, The Levon Helm Band, Drake, Baaba Maal, George Clinton and Parliament/Funkadelic, Imagination Movers, Ledisi plus many more.
2nd Weekend (April 29, 30, May 1, 2)
Pearl Jam, Aretha Franklin, Van Morrison, Widespread Panic, The Neville Brothers, Jeff Beck, Irma Thomas, Gipsy Kings, The Dead Weather, Elvis Costello & the Sugarcanes, Teena Marie, Allen Toussaint, Gov’t Mule, Average White Band, Maze feat. Frankie Beverly plus many more.
Grand Marshal VIP Passes are hugely popular at the Festival selling out in the first year of offering. As the number of VIP passes sold is very limited, interested patrons are encouraged to purchase their Grand Marshal VIP Passes early to avoid being shut out.
The Grand Marshal VIP Pass is sold by specific weekend and includes re-entry privileges (pedestrian only). A very limited number of Grand Marshal packages that include reserved parking are available for purchase.
1st Weekend (April 24, 25, 26) three full Festival days
$550; or $700 with daily reserved parking
2nd Weekend (April 30, May 1, 2, 3) four full Festival days
$600; or $800 with daily reserved parking
How cheap is cheap? I can't seem to find the link to the single day tickets or any info on them. When do the single day tickets go onsale?
$45 plus fees or $60 at the gate. I remember when it was $25 per day...
tickets went on sale at 10am CST today at ticketmaster.com
as for the VIP sections, they are promised for Pearl Jam's set, and last year was the first time they'd ever offered this at JazzFest. Considering the regular entry tickets are so cheap, I'm surprised it took them 40 years to add a VIP option. I doubt they'd get rid of it for Pearl Jam...after all, Pearl Jam themselves sold VIP seats at a premium for some of their shows...Honolulu 06 was the only one I was at, though. I can't see them telling the festival to make an exception for them.
I'll be makin the trip if there are no other US dates. Considering the European leg is in the middle of the year I think they will tour before then in support of Backspacer

"Pearl Jam initially intended to launch a North American tour at Jazz Fest, Davis said. When the band scrapped plans for the tour, the Jazz Fest date also seemed doomed. However, Pearl Jam's representatives called back to say the band still wanted to play the festival. So far, Jazz Fest is Pearl Jam's only announced American festival date for 2010."
yikes!
altho, 'no tour' could still mean some dates will happen.
*fingers crossed*
i will still hold out hope for MSG in may, for a big anniversary gig in october.
jazz fest sounds VERY tempting, would love to visit new orleans again....and, what a line-up or artists!
however, really, really trying to be financially-smart, so it is very doubtful we'll go. i am glad to read it doesn't sell out, so if mr. dream and i decide we do want to go....we can make plans last minute. i like that. so i too am in the wait and see mode....
Sorry if someone already pointed this out, but it's not uncommon for JazzFest performers to put on their own headlining shows while in town for the festival.
I wouldn't be surprised to see PJ announced at a later date, like once they've suckered us all into buying JazzFest tickets.
