and Good for the Mets, what a bum he turned into.

only had to cough up $21M to say sayonara
Bay should have payed them that money. He basically stole a paycheck the entire time he was there.

I still don't really understand the Bay buyout. It seems to me the Mets really took it in the shorts with that.

Just to free up a roster spot, there no other explanation.

CONGRATS to RA Dickey....NL CY YOUNG Winner!

    http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/story/_ ... -win-award

Two years after R.A. Dickey was the first player cut by the New York Mets in spring training, he now has a Cy Young Award on his résumé.

Dickey won the National League Cy Young on Wednesday, becoming the first knuckleballer to receive the honor.

The 38-year-old Dickey became the third Met to win the award. Tom Seaver received the honor three times (1969, '73, '75) and Dwight Gooden won in 1985.

Apparently he doesn't think 7/140 mil isn't enough when considering he's never done anything to warrant this absurd contract. the most he deserves is 5/100 mil. where was he in the 06 playoffs? it wasn't him who was carrying the team it was beltran. was ownership wrong for putting the talks out in the open and not respecting wright's wishes to keep this private, yes, but what more does he think he's worth.

Would you be opposed to trading him for a couple of high prospects to help refill the farm?

if the team truly and honestly offered 7/140 mil then no i wouldn't be opposed at all to trading him to help this team and farm system. If i was sandy i'd be on the phone with Miami asking for Gio Stanton. wright, duda and famila and another prospect for gio and one of their top prospect(s) .

    DO NOT TRADE DAVID WRIGHT
Repeat: Do not trade David Wright.
    A) Wright = The only Mets icon still standing. The Wilpons have borrowed $$$ & leveraged everything they have to field the team they have & they suck. Fan attendance/interest/viewership & gate$$$ = Wright (and Dickey as well, every 5th day)...
    B) Who do you trust in this entire organization to make a "trade for high prospects"? Where have my beloved Mets EVER done this successfully?
    C) He grew up a Mets fan and has said MANY times publicly that he wants to play and finish his career with the Mets. This has to account for something, especially in this day and age when NOBODY does that anymore
    D) Wright is worth EVERY penny he gets, Leadership, stays out of the papers (behavior), GREAT to the fans, media, collegues and gives a 110% EVERYDAY.

I could go on. His #'s are right there with Zim & Longoria. Yeah, he's a little older, but he's still great. Would be a heartbreaker to watch him go anywhere else (plus, who the heck is playing 3rd?)

    Mets fan & Wright fan!

I like Wright, but if the right deal was offered from another GM to grab a couple of "cant miss" prospects, I would definitely do the deal. This team is not going anywhere for several years and they have a crop of young pitching talent and more on the way.

Very happy today...Wright deserves every penny. A little bullpen help and this team will be competitive in no time.
This is a nice gesture to the NY Met fan as well...the way they fubar'd the Reyes situation, this is great!
If we can get Dickey signed for another few years (2 -3 max), well, "...we'll have the teamwork to make the dream work, LET'S GO - LET'S GO METS!!!

Best thing the Mets can do for Dickey is refuse to sign him. Let him go to a contender.

I try not to respond to negative comments...
But good sir, I 'm holding a massive umbrella today as you rain on our parade.
I'm not going to take back my congratulations on your WS victories, either.
I'm sorry this makes you so miserable. "Sorry ass team"? LOL...it may not be a recent WS winning team, but its MY team and I'm damn proud of this signing. David Wright is a high character high performance 3rd baseman and all around leader & team 1st guy.
I'm sorry you couldn't see it in you heart - one full of abundance of championships a plenty - to be happy for him, the long suffering Mets fan and the organization that poses absolutely no threat to you.
Still pissed about Willie in a Mets uniform back in 72?
Attitudes are contagious, and yours good sir, is not worth catching!
    Good day to you imalive.

Oh yeah, taking my personal feelings out of it - there's this also:
Wright is the Mets' greatest position player EVER.
Mets all-time leader in runs, hits, doubles, RBIs and WAR = David Wright
In the "Live Ball Era" he's had the most seasons (6) of at least 20 HR's, 15 SB and .350 obp - Mike Schmidt only had 4 and AFraud had 5.
    Power & speed...
"Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much" compared to what? Sandy Alderson hasn't been the one giving Bonilla contracts out either...
    Great day for Mets fans!

shouldn't have called your team "sorry ass." I actually kind of like your squad. certainly preferable to that team in the bronx :x
