*Edit* As this thread becomes popular with a lot of beer fans, can I recommend everyone to follow on twitter (if u have an account) my friend who is a beer rater: http://www.twitter.com/beerrater I do take part in some tastings and reviews as well. it's a fun time, and fun to follow along! */end Edit*

Anyone else guilty of this?

For instance, had a Malheur Brut Reserve at Philly 3 (of course I didn't want to bring my Scaldis Prestige nor crack open a Deus, I settled for the Malheur) :)

usually stock my cooler with some fine Belgian's as well.

Just wanna know who else is with me on this, and where are ya from?

Sierra makes the BEST BEER out there. As a Canadian, I can only get Sierra when I am down in the US (usually on my PJ road trips), but I always stock up on the IPA when I am in the US. The Anniversary Ale, Celebration Ale and Porter are all amazing beers too. Still waiting to track down the stout though...

I live in PA and I am a huge craft brew fan (Troegs, Lancaster Brewing Co., Magic Hat, Victory, etc.). Ommegang makes some very tasty Belgian brews. I suggest Rare Vos. Unfortunately they don't sell the Obamagang (which was fantastic) as it was only for a brew fest they had over the summer to which I got ridiculously tanked for.

I love the new england micro brews (sam adams, red hook, long trail) but leinie's are my most favorite right now.

leinie's hit the spot on their 1888 bock and their fireside nut....i used to like the sunset wheat, but it's too overpowering in sweetness...and i never liked their honey, berry nor their summer shandy

Sierra does make a very good IPA for a good price. You should also try Stone Brewing Co's IPA and Ruination IPA. They are really good.

As far as Belgium beers, I've been a huge fan of La Chouffe for quite some time.

They just starting shipping New Belgium beers to Atlanta, GA a few months ago. the Hoptoberfest was really good.

I've only recently discovered the American microbrew scene (we have a few decent microbrews in Canada but inly 1 or 2 are really great) and I am so impressed with the quality of their beer.

As I said, Sierra is the shit. Aside from that, on a recent trip to the US I picked up some Harpoon Winter Warmer and some Shipyard Stout - both excellent! Also discovered a Vermont (I think) brewery named Wolaver's which makes excellent beer (organic, but that is not what made me try it) when I was in Philly in October, who make an excellent IPA, Brown Ale and Pale Ale.

I've heard that Bell's Brewery in Kalamzoo, MI makes some of the best beer around, but unfortunately they don't distribute anywhere in NY state, so I haven't got my hands on any of that either. I will be sure to pick some up before PJ's Detroit show in 2010 :mrgreen:

During PJ tailgates - especially Philly tailgates - it's mounds and mounds of unoriginal Miller Lite.

  • There's no excuse for tailgating with BMC Lite (that's BudMillerCoors). Almost anyone in the USA has a good local craft brewing scene that they could support. In Philadelphia, there's Flying Fish, Victory, Phila. Brewing Co., Yards, Stoudts, Weyerbacher, Troegs, Dogfish Head, Dock Street, Sly Fox, ...

Just be careful tailgating with beers like Golden Monkey - that 9% alcohol will catch up to you quick! Try the Prima Pils instead. If the hops bother you, get Stoudt's Gold. Take pride in what you drink!

All that said, I do enjoy the occasional Miller High Life!

This is why you don't drink those kind of beers at a tailgate. I drank half a case of Golden Monkey before a Birds game before. I was a MESS. Miller Lite STRICTLY for tailgates of any kind. Bland, delicious, and I can drink many of them because I need a beer that satisfies not only my thirst but also alcoholism during a 8-9 hour period.

They are definitely "sipping" beers. . . nothing I would tailgate with or drink in large quantities before I had to do anything involving moving or being concious.
