Britney Spears, who has been performing in North America and Europe since her Circus Tour began back in March, took her show down under this month, playing five markets in Australia. Following stops in Perth and Melbourne, Spears played a four-show engagement at Sydney's Acer Arena setting a new house record for most tickets sold for a concert artist. 66,247 tickets were purchased for the four shows (Nov. 16-17, 19-20) with combined grosses topping $9 million. The 21,000-seat Acer Arena has been one of the top-grossing venues in Australia during 2009, hosting tours by Beyoncé, Coldplay, Pink and Nickelback, among others. Spears is the most recent artist to perform at the arena which has grossed more than $57 million (US$) since the beginning of the year.
Bruce Springsteen has finished his 2009 Working on a Dream Tour with a final sold-out performance in Buffalo at the HSBC Arena (Nov. 22), the top-grossing venue among the last five dates reported. Ticket sales topped $1.48 million at the arena with 18,665 fans in attendance. Cleveland, Detroit, Nashville and Baltimore rounded out the tour's final stops before it closed down in Buffalo.
Pearl Jam lands at #3 on the Hot Tours rankings with totals from its four sold-out shows at the Wachovia Spectrum in Philadelphia (Oct. 27-28, 30-31), the final concert performances in the 42-year old arena now scheduled for demolition. Bruce Springsteen, Green Day, Kings of Leon and The Dead were among the artists to perform at the arena during its final year of operation. With over 400,000 tickets sold since the beginning of the year, the Spectrum ended the year with total reported grosses surpassing $23.8 million.

that # seems low to me. Does that make sense? Maybe I am reading it or understanding it incorrectly but to gross $4.8 million with 64,609 attendees over 4 shows, doesnt that mean they averaged only about $75 an attendee? call me stupid if I am not understanding something...

I'd say they made 6 figures on merch as well. God bless having a rabid fan base. I'd say this is much more profitable than having a top selling CD but only being able to sell out 1 show per town.
oh, so i was reading it wrong. I figured "gross" meant merch and food sales as well. I guess $75 a person is reasonable then
at $8.25 for a cup of draft piss, that's a real big fucking surprise!!
Yup, sounds right to me.
For tickets thru TC, I assume the other $8.50 is their own service fees.

You god a good point, man!
I'm not an apologist for defending high ticket prices. I think PJ made a 180 degree turn from their low-ticket price stance.
However, I think the band believes that high ticket prices are justified because of rampant music piracy, and that the way to make up for the lost income from album sales is to raise the prices elsewhere to make up for it.
I see this equally on both sides.

Their merchandise stuff was pretty sweet, too!
maybe it does show how pj keeps the prices down as much as they can
there will always be large groups of people that pay to see bad music
and it would not surprise me if Pearl jam made another million on merch sales over the four Philly shows
You are not serious, right?
The numbers show that it wouldn't be a problem to lower ticket prices for Pearl Jam.
And if they would charge as much as Britney does, they wouldn't sell out Philly four times.
It is fucked up! How many times has she got caught lipsyncing on tour? Time's she would say she had to do it cause she was tired on the road etc .. Fan's still love it. Plus the show's. It's for all ages right? It's ok! It's ok to bring your young kids to a show where she stripes & shakes her boobies & bootie like a high class whore onstage. That's ok!?! Great role model for the young kids there, Britney.
"..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."
“..That came up on the Pillow Case...This is for the Greek, With Our Apologies.....”
Night 1 wasn't sold out. You could see many open section's in the 400's. Plus the back of the stage was closed. Night's 2-4, they opened up that section for all.
Merchandise is where bands make money. A $35 t-shirt might cost them $10 to make, especially with the crap suppliers they are using lately.
Now if they start using different levels of ticket prices, ala U2, then I will be pissed.... :x
As someone else said...you can't be serious. They could have cut ticket prices in half and still made a very healthy profit.
eh not really that doesnt include the cost of the show and the rent that the spectrum charge
who cares ? so they made a few bucks. get over it. tell ya what, why dont you go to work tomorrow for half of what you make. better yet, take half of what you make and donate it to a good cause.
then talk to me.
I for one am glad the boys are making some bank, that means the can continue whatever lifestyle they are leading and in turn continue to make kick ass music that fucking blows me away.
good job PJ keep up the great work, and GET PAID !!
fucking people drive me crazy !

Despite the debate that pops up when we discuss whether or not it is okay to bring kids to see PJ, it always has been a clear decision for me. I am not losing sleep worrying that my boys will drop F-bombs left and right after seeing PJ; I made it clear from the first time they tried that that it wold not fly with me. However, I would never take my kids to see Britney Spears. I do not think her stage show (I'm reluctant to call it "music") offers anything positive for children of either gender.
Besides, Eddie's a much better singer, and his dancing is entertaining, too.

I agree with you 100% - if this is what the boys must do to continue being the greatest live show on earth then so be it. they are still making kick-ass albums and unbelievable live shows. to me $85 per ticket for the Spectrum shows was quite a bargain for the fans - for as great as those shows were $85 isn't bad per ticket in my opinion.
