Calm down on the last part of the sentence. It's only a game. There's no need to insult anybody.
I feel bad that my team qualified for the world cup in such situation. I jumped all over the place when I first saw the goal (I was in an irish pub) but when they showed the replay I felt guilty.

Well maybe you might like to beat Henry

Nope because he's not the first one to do this and not the last one. And I laugh a lot when I hear people saying they would have told the referee to cancel the goal if they were in Henry's situation. I also laugh a lot when I hear players blaming Henry knowing they simulated a fault in the past to get a penalty kick.

Can't blame Henry there. It is 100% the refs fault, if Henry didn't touch it, the ball goes out. He did what he had to do.

Sorry but I have to disagree with you. People are saying its not Henry's fault cause he got away with it...but the be all and end all is that he deliberatly cheated to gain an advantage (whether the sports governing body needs to have video refs etc does not come into it - although this should be in place by now like nearly all other sports)...Henry cheated and its disgusting from someone who most footie fans would have felt was one of the good ones...I am still angry 2 days later

Yeah I havent seen this but I heard enough about it. Henry is a friggin cheat and should be suspended for the World Cup. I cant believe FIFA wont replay the OT. thats bull!

At least Henry said he feels it shuld be replayed. They really need more than one official on the field. Something like a head official and maybe two others, would cut out plays like this, and may even help with the flopping.

I have to be totally honest, I dont believe the match should be replayed. Here is what I think should happen. I think that when Ireland and France are next in a qualifying group together bith matchs should be played in Ireland with no French support. That would not make Henry too popular a figure. I think the most disapointing thing about all of this is that I believed Henry was an honest footballer.

It is the refs job call what takes place on the field. That shit happens all over the field in almost every game, this one just so happen to lead to a goal. Terrible luck for the Irish but I don't fault Henry.

Edit: I am sure I am in the minority on this and respect everyones opinion but after playing for so many years, I just feel soccer is a game of getting away with shit and Henry happened to get away with a hand ball in a huge situation.

knew it would be discussed here!
it was reported that Henry had admitted the handball when irish players protested to the ref. i think Kilbane quoted on irishtimes online. well, if ref thought it was the ball to hand and Henry was not offside,...
c'mon, Henry played instinctively, ref was probably tired & missed it, the rules are rules,... but if i were an irish soccer fan i'd be mad too. ;)

Henry says replay 'the fairest solution'

what a tool! i cheated but since the refs didn't see it, it didn't happen...what an asshole

did jordan push off on byron russell? ... at least he didn't try to say "god" did it ... i'm not saying he should be proud of it but the reality is (especially in team sports) that you try and get away with things and he did ...
Exactly, calls are missed all the time. The refs can't see every play. If they want to blame anyone, blame FIFA for not having instant replay.

this was much more than just a missed call. as you probably know, he not only took one touch with his hand, but 2 blatant touches. the referee and his linesmen all missing this is inexcusable enough, but to make it worse they missed the offside that would have prevented this entire thing from happening. for me this is way beyond simply missing a call.

That's where you make a mistake : honest footballer. There is no honest footballer ... and I've played football for years ;)
Replaying the game may be an option but then many games should be replayed ... like Ireland vs.Georgia in 2009 (where the f*** does this penalty come from ?) or France vs. Germany in 1982 or Argentina vs. England in 1986.
This whole story proves that the FIFA needs to work on a solution about refereeing : it may be the video, it may be the 2 extra referees like they do this year in Europa league ...

Poor old Trappatoni. First Byron Moreno, now Hanssen.

the old has been robbed by referees in World Cup games!!

The most unbelieveable thing is the progress we made since the last campaign. Admittedly, we didnt win enough matches, and we wouldve won our group but for a late leveller from Italy at home, and drawing with Bulgaria at home. (Played 12 - Won 4, Draws 7, Lost 1)

But if anyone had told any Irish fan during the Staunton regime that we would play Italy twice and France twice, (the two finalists from the last world cup).....and still only be a few minutes away from qualifying.......nobody wouldve believed you.

Trap has finally put the backbone & passion back in the side, which has been lacking since the McCarthy era.
    Bring on Euro2012!

This article sums up how I feel.

I beg to differ about there being no honest footballer. Can't see Giggs doing this. Zola, from a few years ago, wouldn't. Paolo di Canio obviously had THAT moment, which I think redeems all the other stupid shit he's ever done. Ditto Robbie Fowler.

Well then we should blame Robbie Keane for not telling the referee there was no penalty kick in this case ...

When a ball is coming at you and it bounces and hits your hand your reaction is about instincts not a pre-meditated plan to cheat.

    That's all I'm sayin'

Anyone who has played sports knows this.

I mean if this were baseball and the Mariano Rivera struck out Victorino on a called 3rd strike that was low do you think he would say "Nope, that was a ball, let me pitch another one?" Hell to the No.

  • regardless of whether he was doing it just to protect himself from soccer houligans, henry has been a great guy about the whole thing... i dont know that an american player would ever admit that kind of fault in such an important game... theres not much he can do... footballs definitely got quite a mess on their hands tho... real shame... and france no less! :P

i dont follow the sport enough to have a real opinion or care that much... but its an interesting story... that kindof stuff should never happen

This is a world class soccer player, not an 11 year old kid. I cant say whether he did this on purpose or not, but their instincts are not too handle a ball otherwise they would be doing it all the time. Not only did he handle it once, he handled it twice !!!!

Of course he admits it, it's all over the whole planet on footage as clear as day!! That's not that honourable.
He went over to our players on the pitch at the end of the game and told them he had done it, but he didnt go tell the ref or linemen when it mattered did he?

The only reason he admitted it, and the only reason he said there should be a replay is because he knew there wouldnt be one, and that nothing could be done about it.

He's aa clever PR guy, but realistically he's cheated in important games many times before. Honourable my ass.

Its amazing as soon as he handed the ball , just about every Irish players hand went up signaling a hand ball, but the ref or assistant didnt see it ???!!!
