hi, i'm the one who started this thread...wanted to talk about the DVD, but that hasn't really happened, has it?!?!?!
as far as the sell out talk, i'm 32 years old, and that doesn't really mean anything to me anymore....even Eddie Vedder has let go of that high school mentality
oh, and to anyone who doubts that a Pearl Jam show is indeed a sauage fest of the highest order, check out this video showing Eddie's view from the stage in Philly:

geesh--I agree....I, for one, really couldn't care less about them "selling out"....I was interested in the DVD and appreciate your opinion!!!Need a tour Travel Agent??? Pick me :-)
Whatever you are, be a good one --Lincoln0 -
i love KOL. sell outs? sure. i could care less. only reason i wont buy this is cause i tend to have a short attention span for music dvds and ill probably never sit and watch the whole thing.I miss you hippiemom.0
-
i really dont care if they sold out either. i just hate their recent musical direction. i tried so hard to get into OBTN, but in the end i just did not like it.
ps i do have the dvd in queue from netflix though.0 -
Well I watched it all the way through last night and thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish.
Though it comes off as a tad bit contrived and over dramatic, I like the part when caleb thanks "you people" because they wouldn't be a band now without them....which is true as far as I can tell. I actually bought youth and young manhood right after its release based on the good things I read about it on nme.com
Love Black Thumbnail as the closer because it is probably my favorite song of theirs post-Y&YM.
California Waiting, Molly's Chambers and Red Morning Light have held up very well....many disagree but their first album is a classic in my book
GET THIS DVD!!!!All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow
They say every sin is deadly but I believe they may be wrong...I'm guilty of all seven and I don't feel too bad at all0 -
I like KOL and enjoy ALL of the albums. I will also probably buy the blu-ray when it comes out. Having said that, when KOL came to Council Bluffs Caleb was in an awful, bitchy mood and what did we get for an encore? Knocked Up and Use Somebody. What a let down. No Black Thumbnail and closing with Use Somebody? WTF? I am still seething over his prima donna act, but I still like them and will give them another chance. My wife is even more pissed than I am and I have to remind her that Eddie has bad nights and can get crabby too. :P0

you know there is no bigger PJ fan than me..
but bitchin' about KOL encores is a tad over-the-top considering PJ uses about three of the same songs for their encores almost every tour..
YL, RITFW and Baba..
Just sayin'..
Ya know?"This here's a REQUEST!"

If you are referring to my post I clearly didn't make my point. I was bitchin' about Caleb's bitchin'. It was a very disappointing show and the ending made it more so since we didn't get the typical encore. He was clearly pissed when he left the stage. BTW, I really like KOL and tire of the selling out talk too, but I can be disappointed in a performance can't I?0 -
sure..
what was he pisssed aboout?"This here's a REQUEST!"

It started with his sound crew. He was clearly unhappy with the results. Nathan was also unhappy and kept chucking drumsticks at the sound crew located side stage. I think (and of course, I am not certain) the last straw for Caleb is he was unhappy with the crowd during an attempted sing along during Knocked Up. After the song was over the band conversed and they played Use Somebody and then walked off the stage. Later we learned that Manhattan and Black Thumbnail were on the encore set list, but not played (not sure how people know this). It was bewildering. We don't get many name bands in the Midwest and for us this was our only impression of KOL live. Probably even more disappointing because we were on a high from experiencing PJ's Chicago performance on 8/24/2009. My first time seeing them after following them since the beginning........ Man, come to think of it, I am still on a high.locked wrote:sure..

I don't think it's a first for him. I've read stories on the KoL message board about him getting visibly upset with the US crowds.
There was one in particular, at a show within the last couple months. I think it was after Use Somebody, during the encore, and a large portion of the crowd started filling up the aisles, heading towards the exit. Apparently, Caleb got pretty upset and made a comment about all of the Sex on Fire fans. I guess he then started to play the beginning of Sex on Fire, and a bunch of the people that were leaving turned around, started to cheer, and headed back to their seats. Caleb made another comment and the band left the stage.
I may have some of the details mixed up. I'll try and see if I can find the story.
I know during the Boston show in April he made a comment how he appreciates the support they get, and wanted to remind people that they did have other songs out before Sex on Fire. I think they've worked really hard to get where they are, and while they are probably loving the popularity they've gotten, I think they would also prefer to be recognized for how great their previous albums are.0 -

that's a bummer. i saw kol in chicago on halloween the year before and they were excellent i thought. but then, everyone's in a good mood on halloween. also tough given how close it was to pj... i don't even know if pj is my fav band anymore, but they truly have almost no peers live. so i think kol was bound to be a bit underwhelming on the heels of pj.
that said, i can see his behavior being a problem. i saw muse at lolla a few years back and they were having all kinds of equipment problems and you could tell the band was pissed off and frustrated, so it was a huge letdown as a live show. esp becos you always hear about how great muse is live...0 -
let's see...
latest album full of ballads and top 40 garbage
shaving beards and going with the clean cut, boy band look (skinny jeans included)
rumors of a remix album including Linkin Park (please tell me this is false!!!)
their own clothing line
if that doesn't define sellout, I don't know what does.
for me it's extremely disappointing. their first two albums are two of my favorites, but they are on a downward trend. they had so much potential before they got all caught up in becoming famous...kind of ironic, it's almost the opposite of what happened to PJ in their early years...
disappointing is the best way to sum it up
also, I saw them at MSG and the spectrum last year. the crowds didn't know the old stuff at all. then sex on fire or use somebody would start and the arenas would erupt. terrible.
Charmer = worst vocals of all time (and they frequent that song in their encores!!!!)0 -

For real...I'll leave the copies for those trendy 15 year old fucks who have no idea of their early material...

its so funny to see the comparisons with PJ..
You folks don't even realize it...
1) Ed hated the band's spotlight in the mainstream after "Vs" and virtually hid the band under a rug for a whole year.
2) How many times has Ed got pissed with a crowd? (LOTS) and cut the setlist short?
3) Haircuts and clean shaven (see Riot Act tour 2003)
4) Diva moments upset with stage crew (As recent as 6/28/08, Ed tossed a on stage cooling fan and stopped singing "Black" pouting that he couldn't get his roadie's attention. (listen to the boot if you question it)
5) New sound on latest album? (Have you HEARD the Fixer folks???)
6) Young kids in the crowd... CHECK!
AND.. on one hand you critisize KOL for having young teens in the crowd and then rank on Caleb for resenting the EXACT SAME thing!
Honestly, I could go on all day with this stuff..."This here's a REQUEST!"

I saw them in Brisbane at the start of the year (my 3rd time) and Caleb was pissed with the crowd because the majority of the crowd was wating for SOF and Use Somebody. They played a heap of songs off the first 3 albums and only 4 off their latest, which was great for me. But , I really like their new album too. I think Closer, Cold desert and crawl are some of their best work. I think they will strip it back a bit for their next album as I don't think they are in love with the crowds they are now getting at their gigs, but that is what happens when you become popular.
I also don't see what the issue is with a band striving for success- Don't most bands want to be the "biggest band in the world" when they start out? Good luck to them. If you don't like their music- why waste your time telling people about it. There are heaps of bands that I can't stand, but then there are probably more people that can't stand PJI'll ride the wave where it takes me
