Next time you have internet down time, take a look at any team when they face a guy for the first time. I'd be willing to bet that any team has consistently done well against pitchers they had not seen simply because what they see in video and on handwritten scouting reports is vastly different than actually stepping into the batter's box. They're 27 games over .500 so nothing to complain about.

6 or 7 hits in two games against cleveland is a joke ...period

Just passing this along...from Olney's blog today. Funny, me and cliff were discussing this last week.

What follows is pure speculation: As the Yankees look for ways to bolster themselves before the deadline, the acquisition of Adam Dunn makes a whole lot of sense. Think about the lineup they could run out there:

    SS Derek Jeter
    RF Nick Swisher
    1B Mark Teixeira
    3B Alex Rodriguez
    2B Robinson Cano
    DH Adam Dunn
    C Jorge Posada
    CF Curtis Granderson
    LF Brett Gardner

They do have Nick Johnson coming back at some point, but he doesn't have a history of seamless recoveries from injury. And Dunn would be about as perfect a fit for Yankee Stadium, with its short porches in right field and right-center, as any hitter in the majors. Consider his spray chart, courtesy of MLB.com.

Dunn has made it clear that he prefers the National League over the American League; he is not ready to be a full-time designated hitter, and by all accounts, he has worked on his defense at first base. The Rays all but stopped their conversations about Dunn because of concern that he simply would not be happy as a DH, even for a couple of months. But if he went to the Yankees (or Rays, for that matter) and hit a bunch of high-profile homers down the stretch and in October -- and if he got a chance to dog-pile on teammates after winning a series -- his market value would only be helped.

What Dunn really wants is to stay with the Nationals and sign a four-year deal; the Nationals seem to prefer a two-year deal, although there hasn't been a formal offer from Washington in months. I've spoken with high-ranking executives of other teams who say that Dunn will get offers of at least three years with other clubs because of his consistent 40-homer/100-RBI/high OBP production.

Dunn makes so much sense in the Yankees lineup it's not funny. Moving Thames and Miranda to the bench help it, although they do need someone better for the left side. I would hope Cashman at least tells Rizzo to give him a call before he accepts anything.

Nick Johnson is irrelevant and should make no difference.

I've been praying for Dunn for 3 years. He's a Monster!!!

see I told you not to jump off the Manhattan Bridge over one regular season loss at the end of July to an unknown pitcher.

Rosenthal says the Yanks want Dunn but are not confident about it. Please make this happen, it should really not take too much come Friday or Saturday.

    Jeter
    Swisher
    Tex
    Arod
    Cano
    Dunn
    Posada
    Granderson
    Gardner

I want to be the first to predict that the yanks get berkman and not dunn. houston just flipped anthony gose (acquired from philly in oswalt deal) for brett wallace. Wallace is a top prospect at 1B, which is where berkman plays. The stros will want to get wallace up and playing immediately...and berkman is a FA after the year. I think the yanks could get berkman on the cheap here...ie a mid-level prospect.

would be a win-win for the yanks. get berkman, who is better than dunn...and give up less than the ridiculous proposals that DC has thrown out there.

The day Johnson got hurt I mentioned Berkman but kind of ruled it out because of how much left he would have on his contract. His numbers are down this year but if all it would take is C prospect or two, I would not mind.

He was, Baseball-Reference has him splitting time between 1B and DH this year though.

Plus I've been reading Adam Dunn doesn't want to DH, so I can see Berkman having more of a chance of being a Yankee.

Sherman says the Rays are the front runner to land Dunn, that is pretty scary.

what's scary is dunn and pena in the same lineup. that's a lot of whiffs
