at what point does joe start giving arod some regular days off? give hicks some time in RF, and DH beltran.. he seems to be so intent on playing hicks, but if gardy and ellsbury are going to keep hitting (which remains to be seen), they need to stay in the lineup

Left to run a couple errands when they went down 2-1 assuming the worst, glad to see they pulled it out

A steal of home followed by a walk off. Hopefully it gives them some life.

I think arod's numbers are worse than they should be give how he has been swinging and how hard he has hit the ball, but good god, he was extremely late on 3 95 or so mph fastballs today in one at bat

He's had some hard hit balls that just can't find holes. But he's also taking pitches down the middle. Although that called 3rd strike today was too high

Yeah that was a terrible call, the next at bat was the one where he was consistently late though

Gardner proved last year what we knew all along - he cannot last through 600 ab. And at their ages, arod, Beltran, etc. all need days off. As we get into summer, they will all be rotating (though Ellsbury should pretty much be in there most days). And Hicks will get exposed if he's over used. He's a nice complimentary piece. Not a guy you want to be starting every day, Don't get caught up in guys getting hot for a few days with them actually being good.

Their bullpen will take them as far as Pineda and Tanaka allow them to. They are not going to be winning many hitting contests this year.
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

I like hicks and think he can be a very good regular someday
  • I like hicks and think he can be a very good regular someday

Great fielder which is now a hot commodity as teams learn defense is important. So, yeah from that perspective he could be. But don't expect him to be much better than a slightly below league average hitter (and that's probably a bit generous) if he plays 140+ games. He fits them now as he's low salary and should remain healthy to play where the injuries eventually hit. But, he wouldn't even be on this team if they didn't have $150 bazillion tied up in aging useless players like CC and ARod (not to mention the useful, currently way over paid soon to be injured aging players like Tex and Beltran).

Honestly, Casman is a genius the way he has built around that (the salary distribution) with this all time bullpen. Went to the game the other night and all I wanted to see was Betances and Miller K the world. Didn't get the chance, but that's the state of the team right now. Once Chapman is back, the formula is obvious. And the Royals won that way last year, so who knows. Still not enough hitting, but at least they could make it interesting, and another year or 2 on, with Bird, Judge, etc emerging, money will become available to put the final pieces together like the 90s.... There is light. Just not this year with guys like Hicks being our shining hope.

Sucks he missed the first 2 games of this series. He hits well in Arlington.

In ex-Yankee news. Don Mattingly's Marlins win their first series against the Dodgers in his return to L.A. as a visiting manager.
