Something I never completely understood, maybe some of you can shed some light on this.
How do team managers decide how/where to keep middle relief pitchers like David Robertson who has amazing success? Do they consider making a guy like this a starter, or does he just not have enough stamina?

I got to thinking about this because he is obviously young and good. But we saw the ups and downs of Joba..
Also I was wondering what it would be like to only pitch 1 inning at a time (but obviously more often). Some pitchers take a bit of time or a few innings to get in a groove.

What will Robertsons future look like?

I think Robertson might take Mo's place when he retires and come in the 9th to save the game.

Bullpen guys usually only have 1 or 2 good pitches, since they face a batter only once. Starters need 3 or 4 to get by, so as to get the same guys out 3 or 4 times in one game. Almost any starter can be a good relief pitcher. The vice versa is not true by any means.

And this is exactly why I had such an issue with Joba being forced into the pen. He had 4 pitches. The Yankees jerked him around like no other. Give him a shot to start and if he fails put him in the bullpen, not the other way around.

    ahh, that makes sense, thanks.
Newch, I agree it would be nice to see him take Mo's place when that time comes.

Everyone makes mistakes. Phillies traded Placido Polanco for Ugueth Urbina, and kept David Bell at 3B.

For sure, the Joba one is just more scary than a bad trade or two. They have absolutely butchered his career.

I don't think so. I think it's their way of saying he's ready for Triple-A. I am pretty certain one of Colon or Garcia will not be back next year though.

I would love to make my way up to Scranton over the next couple days though if Banuelos or Betances are throwing with Arod being there an all.

Sometimes the inmates (owners) run the asylum. Like the Phils trading away Cliff Lee for 3 mediocre prospects.

True, true. And the Yankees signing Soriano to an obscene contract.

Robertson has 3 good pitches. I believe Joba could have been a good starter if he was given a chance. I also believe Mo could have been too. But he was so great out of the bullpen in 95 that they decided to keep him there.

Jeters still hitting and Burnett is still frustrating as hell. That walk to melky after being 0-2 was as frustrating as it gets. Got really lucky with that beautiful double play.
