It's a nightmare scenario for me, but to say the Phills have no shot is ridiculous, though an opinion nonetheless..go Mets..

    i feel for ya......eh, no i actually dont :mrgreen::lol:

but yeah, offense is about even. edge to the yanks in ny with the stupid dh. edge to the phils in philly.
defense--the phils have a clear advantage at most positions here.
pitching--the yanks have the edge. however if the hamels pitches the way he is capabale of, this could be a wash. our bullpen has looked great in the post season. i see this going the distance. cannot understand how people think the defending champs will get steamrolled. my only conclusion to that is that those people dont follow the sport that closely.

the last time the phillies and yanks headed against each other for the series was in 1950.
Yanks catcher was Yogi Berra , and Phil Rizzuto won the MVP.

Oh yeah, Yanks swept the Philthies .

Wow, I am impressed, a very unbiased preview from The Jealger.

Phils defense in the OF is much better, IF is much closer though.

Hamels is a huge key for the Phillies, I don't think the Phillies can win this series unless he gets his shit together. Phillies bullpen has been solid in the post season and Hughes has not looked great in the postseason but Yanks have to have a bullpen edge because they have #42.

And Charlie, please please please please please please start Pedro in Game 2. I miss the "Who's your daddy?" chants
  • Notice how Yankee fans stay positive and root for their team, meanwhile the best thing coming out of the Phils fans is Yankees Suck. Stay Classy Philly....

In July 2007 Densmore said that he would not rejoin The Doors unless it was fronted by Eddie Vedder. Densmore says, "I play with Jim. If there's someone of that level, OK. I'm not gonna join them with Ian. That's not to diss Ian, he's a good singer - but he's no Jim Morrison. Eddie Vedder? My God, there's a singer."

aaaaand, the phils 2nd best pitcher missed the series cuz he got drafted and was fighting in korea. phils pitches still gave up like 11 runs or something crazy.

what are you surprised or something?

IF is closer, but behind the plate, its not even close with Chooch back there. Don't sleep on him at bat either. ;)

agreed about hamels. but with burnett's struggles, those two might be a wash. we'll see what happens. CANNOT WAIT!

Here's a summary of what happened in the 1950 World Series:

Game 1 Vic Raschi pitches a two-hitter with both hits in the fifth inning. Willie Jones and Andy Seminick had both hits. Jim Konstanty allowed four hits in eight innings while issuing four walks. The Yankees score their only run in the fourth on Jerry Coleman's (The Padres radio play by play guy) sacrifice fly.

    Time of Game - 2:17

    Game 2

Allie Reynolds throws a seven-hitter while pitching 10 innings. Robin Roberts also pitches 10 innings and allows 10 hits. The Yankees take a 1-0 lead on Gene Woodling's single in the second and the Phillies tied it on Richie Ashburn's sacrifice fly in the fifth. The Yankees score the go-ahead run in the 10th on Joe DiMaggio's leadoff home run.

    Time of game - 3:06

    Game 3

The Yankees win another one-run game as they score a run in the eighth and ninth. Jerry Coleman drives in the winning run in the ninth and scores the tying run in the eighth on Granny Hamner's fielding error. Eddie Lopat started for the Yankees and pitched eight innings. Ken Heintzelman started for the Phillies and allowed four hits and six walks in 7 2/3 innings.

    Time of game - 2:35

Game 4 - Whitey Ford wins his first career World Series start by allowing two unearned runs and seven hits in 8 2/3 innings. The Yankees score two in the first off Bob Miller as Yogi Berra singles to right and scores on DiMaggio's double. Miller is replaced at that point and Konstanty pitches 6 2/3 innings of relief and allows a three-run sixth. Berra leads off the inning with a home run, Bobby Brown triples in DiMaggio and scores on Hank Bauer's liner. The Philles scored twice in the ninth on Woodling's error that allows Jones and pinch runner Ken Johnson to score. The Phillies have two on but Allie Reynolds strikes out pinch hitter Stan Lopata to end the series.

    Time of game - 2:05

I don't anticipate a sweep by either team and I don't anticipate any of these games moving that quickly.

well, explain yourself man. i would love to know how the defending world champs who match up real well agains the yanks have "no shot" at beating them. what do you have? anything to base this on? .......well other than the they just "played the rays" last year when the yankees didnt even make the playoffs argument  . eitherway, last year was last year. that argument makes no sense what so ever.

Maybe I said it wrong. The 2 leagues play 2 different styles of baseball. Correct? NL is primarily small ball where the AL is all out. Obviously the dh is the key part in that equation. Sabathia is a completely different pitcher from even a year ago so it will be tough. Also Yankees have home field. If the Phillies can execute than they do have a shot, but again it will be tough. I hope it's a good series no matter who wins. Good luck to all.

Did you say Small ball and the Phillies in the same breath ?

Obviously you haven't seen the Phillies play the last 3 years

The Phillies are more like an AL team then a NL Team

again, i don't mean to be rude, but i don't think you know what you're talking about. of course they have an advantage with the dh. every single team in the al has that same unfair advantage. so the home field is huge. but that is nothing specific to this series starting tonight.

the phllies are built like an al team. so for you to say they play small ball just shows you are unqualified to comment on this. sorry man. and, sabathia seems like the same dominant pitcher he was last year to me. you don't make any sense here. :?

By the CC comment I believe he is replying to all the Phils fans that say they beat him last year so it will be the same this year. CC is much more rested this time around.

With the DH I think the Phils match up well, that is if Charlie uses Raul at DH and that Fransico kid in left.

Looking forward to a great series.

the phils did beat up on cc last year. it wasnt that he was overused like the yanks fans like to say. he was dominant up until that game. the fans got into his head. brett myers made him throw 11 pitches to load the bases and victorino hit the slammer.

so i think its an advantage for him to be pitching at home tonight.

I didn't say they had an advantage with the dh, I was stating that the AL is a more open offense with the dh. That's why the NL is more apt to play small ball. And yes I don't watch any NL games so I didn't know the Phillies play a more AL style.

Just 1 stat to throw at you. Yankees starters have allowed 1 home run all post season. The Angels had a pretty potent line up themselves. I'm not saying the Phillies won't hit home runs, I'm just saying Yankees starters have been really solid. Well other than Burnett's wildness.

If you read the op's 2nd post he says the Phillies beat him twice last year. He has worked on some things this year and is on a better team as well. That's why I said that.

What a masterful performance from Cliff Lee. You just got to tip your cap. I will insert foot in mouth. I was wrong. I admit it...what's to say.
