The upcoming issue of Relix magazine will feature a countdown of what they deem to be the 50 greatest rock and roll concerts ever.

And guess what: A Pearl Jam show is one of them!!!

I wonder which show????

I am going to say either one of the Gorge shows, or maybe Mansfield simply for the number of songs played.

    MSG 2003

Forgot about that one! May be it simply because of the venue and exposure! Nice call!

i think you have to look back at the mid 90's to find the PJ show that makes the list.
81 is now off the air

  • State College was GREAT I was there in row 11. Very Very memorable show. However, in comparison to some older shows it doesnt stack up and Satans Bed was awful (although a fun try) If you are saying top 50 show of all time it needs to have all the pieces in place

    Great Set
    Great Crowd
Band on top of their game
    hottest ticket in town
    etc.

Top of my head these are all better shows that ive attended than State College

    Atlanta 94
    Msg 9/11/98
    Randalls2 - 96
    The last Gorge show

Other one i wasnt at that is close or better

    Key Arena 11/6/2000

This is just off top of my head. Im sure i could pick a lot more.

Do you think something like this would have to be a more mainstream thing? I mean voterwise? While I agree that the Atl was a great show...how many people outside the Jamily...(yes I said it!! In jest of course! ;-) ) would really know about this show even though it was a broadcast thing? I am thinking the 03 MSG or The Gorge might be it the more I think about it! And although you will always be a God in my eyes...I respectfully disagree!! btw...How are you Bro! ? :-)

Any of the 2009 shows could make that list. This band are on fire right now. Never saw them so good
  • Because it was early and they organised it and it was playing songs from Ten and it was released recently on the Ten reissue... Drop In The Park.

Not my own personal favourite but magazines usually pick something with a significance and I think it ticks some boxes.

this is what im thinking. you're not going to see some obscure fan favorite show (which includes the gorge and the mansfield run). you're going to see something even a casual listener might recall... atlanta 94 or soldier field 95 spring to mind... radio shows, the band at the peak of their popularity, stunning shows, rabid crowds. those shows are legendary.

the bumfuck kansas show from 1998 isn't going to cut it.

My vote would be for the Philly '05 show at the Wachovia Center. Perfect blend of rarities, hits, and covers. That is pretty much my standby bootleg when I get the PJ itch.
If there were no Angels would there be no sin?

Scotty my friend Atlanta 94 was braodcast all over the country on radio stations everywhere. Pearl Jam were at their peak and they ripped off a show to end all shows. Outside of the "jamily" do you think people were talking about State College? No way State College can be put in the same category as Atlanta 94, soldier field, Randalls etc. Is it up there? Yes! However shows from 2003 just dont stack up against shows from 94 or mid nighties in general. I think Relix will agree with me. ;)

    love you pal.

  • I doubt it will be based on length of the show at all. It will probably be more in the vein of most notable, most publicized, most exposure, etc. I'd go with one of these:

1.Drop in the park...made headlines all over the world, was a free concert(still almost entirely unheard of), and was FINALLY officially released along with the Ten Redux, not to mention a brilliant performance.

2.Atlanta '94...broadcast live(again, STILL almost completely unheard of), damn near unanimously regarded as at least being in the top 5 of almost every PJ fan worldwide. They debuted THREE songs that night from Vitalogy, which hadn't even been released yet(record companies don't usually enjoy that sort of thing), plus the whole Kurt Cobain going missing dynamic, and Ed referring to it during the show.

Or it could just be Soldier Field...
