Bleh---thought I fought off my cold last week but it's back again. Or maybe it is just allergies, which I have never had before.
So I'll just lie down and wait for the dream

    ouch.....;)

thanks for the well wishes all, you're all awesome!
i am feeling a lot better, tho not 100%. i was planning on returning to the office tomorrow, but on the urging of an awesome partner, i am taking another day. nice. another day of rest, the weather is to be beautiful and our new apple computer in meant to be delivered, so perfect timing! also, one extra day will hopefully knock it all out, so all good! i was actually encouraged, again, to take my time coming back..whatever i need...so that's awesome! (as long as they're not secretly planning on canning my ass! :? :| )

In reading this, I started thinking about my daughter. She has 2 small kids, thus bringing home illnesses from school. Well, she started a new job 2 and 1/2 months ago and is not allowed to miss a day until mid-November. That forces her to go to work sick and spread it around to her co-workers, who will end up having to miss work also. Even if they allowed her to miss work with a doctor's excuse makes no sense. She doesn't have medical coverage yet and for viruses you don't need a doctor, just time. So, if they did allow a doctor's note she'd still be missing the money for that day of work and the money it cost to go to doctor.
Frankly, if she gets too sick, she loses her job.
Personally, if I was her boss, I'd rather her stay home.
A lot of people are sick right now, at least here in the states. I wouldn't want half my work force home. Many, if not most, do have sick days they can take.
The rule about not missing work the first 90 days is just one of their procedures and no one that actually works in the building made it up, higher ups did probably many moons ago, however, the supervisors, bosses that are in the building have to follow it.

Anyway, I hope all of you out there that are ill have a speedy recovery and that your illness doesn't screw up your life too much.
    Save room for dessert!
  • ya know....yes, it's a catch-22 oftentimes with sick leave. i was impressed with our 'unlimited' sick leave status, and i figured it actully worked in the firm's favor, people just don't take it to 'use up' their balance, etc. also seemed pretty cool about it. as you all know, i was recently sick. one of our partners even e-mailed me to tell me to take as much time as i need, don't rush back until fully recovered, etc. i thought, wow, how nice....how cool. so i do come back, and the end of my first week back, i get a call from our HR manager, and asking me bout my sickleave, and mentioning a 'pattern' to my time, etc. are you serious? yes, i have taken sick leave after busy season, b/c yes, you work me close to DEATH during busy seasons, also coincides with season/weather changes...so hell yea, when it's over i am usually exhausted and sick! christ! so now suggested that perhaps to watch, go to the doctor for documenttion, etc.....and i think the same as you heather; doctor can't do a thing, you're asking me to spend $30 just to verify i am sick  ...and also asking me to unnecessarily go out while i am ill. so basically, you're telling me to drga my ass in, sick, lest i somehow create/continue a 'pattern' to my absences.

also, last summer i took a bad fall after MSG I, which was during my vacation. as many know, i ended up on crutches. there was no way i could get myself back/forth to work, walking, trains, do my job, etc. so i called out. i told ALL my patners/directors the whole scenario...so i had been on vacation, then sick leave, and then 4th of july holiday. i know that 'looked bad'...but i let them know my story, i also had the ER documentation, etc...no one asked for it. the HR dude mentioned this incident as well, told him the whole story and he said...well just be sure to alert your team. ummm...i did fuckhead.

so sure, on the one hand i have a compassionate partner telling me to get well, then on the other i have beancounters looking for patterns. :? fucktards.
    Stay with me...

when I was in the grocery store at night recently, a clerk was allowed to go home early. I said "I'm sneezing just a little too much."

Swine flu? Or was it convenient that he sneezed?
