If ya going to sport the chicken noodle, ya gotta go jewish grandma's.

thought we already covered this, i've got no jewish grandma's to pitch in. i don't even have any grandma's period. :|

You should be home by now, D2D. Hope you're feeling better. Chinese food with hot mustard and tea sounds like a good plan.

I feel a cold coming on, too. Bummer. I hope they turn the heat on in this place soon. brrrr

    it was completely awesome!
as was my fluffy comforter and 12 hours of sleep.
however, i still managed to wake up feeling worse. :? however, isn't that how it goes....gets worse before it gets better? i took 2 hours of sick leave this morning so i could sleep/rest a bit later, and still come to work during this important time and look dedicated. :) think i may do the same tomorrow, *the* deadline day (tho again, we got 99.8% of the work done for the 09.15 deadline, so this is all appearances) and then friday call out all day, finally!

hope i am better saturday, but definitely by sunday since that is the breast cancer walk and i can't miss hubby's band 2 days in a row. also, this way come back to work monday 100% better. man, i hope i can make it happen.

lots of sleep, vitamin C...vitamins in general....dayquil/nyquil.....tea, tea and more tea.....and tonight, tortellini en brodo.

my sympathies to all my fellow sickies...it sucks! and thats for all the well wishes everyone!

btw - ditp...that sucks about the heat. as i said earlier, i really try not to put it on in october, but man, it was COLD monday night! so you bet, on it went!

    flu is horrendous.
i am feeling rather deathly myself, and this is just a really bad cold. but it did completely blind-side me late monday night/early tuesday, and today i feel under it's full effects. my hair actually hurts. you know that feeling? man, i hate it. i cannot wait to go home!

    hang in there wolf!

With all this swine flu, they have someone who checks to see if you are sick and makes you go home!

    Sick Nazis!
    ...
    Think about it this way...
You are fine. The guy next to you is coughing and sneezing up a storm. You're okay with that? Will the business go under if this guy isn't there? What makes him so important to the job, that he is willing to risk your well being?
Personally, I hate it when fuckers come to work when they're sick. i don't want their fucking disease. They aren't that fucking important to the place... the company will survive if they are not there for a couple of days.

i dont know how im not sick. i just moved, started a stressful new job, have been drinking and smoking and partying more than i have in 4-5 years, sleeping poorly, eating oddly, not working out... and i feel fine other than typical smoking shortness of breath. there's no rhyme or reason in this world.

    feel better!
My wife always makes me the following when I have a cold, which is a combination of what was said above (minus Rygar's rum)

hot water, fresh finely grated ginger, lemon and honey

a LOT of ginger and lemon in a pot-so strong its almost a spicy lemon ginger soup, strain into a teacup as needed-then cut with a little honey

    great for the sore throat

easy on the honey at bedtime, honey :mrgreen::mrgreen:

ggggggrrrrrrrrrrr. why does this always happen?
healthy, life is good, rolling along and then BAM, outta NO where - sick. felt 100% fine and good yesterday, went to bed feeling fine, about 2 hours in bed realized, it felt like i had razor blades in my throat, and my head was throbbing. i dislike being sick period, but it always seems i get ill right around when i have SO much coming up!

this weekend is the annual oyster festival, my husband's band will be playing both days, all day. also have the annual breast cancer walk with my sister sunday morning. not to mention, philly halloween weekend is right around the corner. also, can not call in sick b/c altho i am doing close to nada, i need to be here 'just in case' b/c 10.15 used to be a big deadline for my firm, still is a deadline, but looks like we're set...but none the less, here i am. sucks. :|

i hope i can kick this cold's ass ASAP.

    ...
    Do you smell like bacon?
When you sneeze... does it sound like this: "Oink-chooo!!!"

yes, i still feel lousy, even lousier than yesterday...tho right now, after 9 bazillion cups of tea, a few million bowls of soup, i feel comparatively 'better' especially given the hour. and no, i did not get to rest/stay home today, tho i slept 12 hours last night (took 2 hours sick leave this morning, and already plan on that for tomorrow). as tomorrow os the 15th, wooohooo!, i am planning, finally, on calling out ALL day friday, and hopefully kick this cold to the curb.

at first i was like wtf? (forgive my foggy brain as i am indeed ill)...and then, eureka  ...i got it. and yes, thanks...i laughed. and no i do not believe i have the flu, swine or otherwise....

not laughing at your pain, that i empathize with....i am laughing at your self-censorship.
what can i say? i am easily amused, especially after days on end of cold meds. :?

i am feeling a bit better today. still feel horrid, but not quite as horrid as yesterday. that's a good sign. i am planning on a full sick day tomorrow, finally! so i may rest and recuperate. i can't wait for it......ahhhhhhhh.

My bf has a band and I've had to miss shows due to illness. Not a big deal, after you hear them once, you heard them a million times. Its way more important that you get well!
Stay home, drink chicken noodle soup and just chill. Ask him to tape the show.
You are more important than the show.
    I wish you a quick recovery. :D

    oh, i do agree!
believe me, if i am still unwell, or the weather is bad - which is likely, seems it will be very cold/rainy....i won't be going. my husband knows this and will certainly understand. however, i would actually like to go, very much so. thus why it sucks. but you bet, if i'm not up for it...home i will be. i already alerted my sister to it as well in regards to the breast cancer walk sunday. see how it all goes.

i'm just glad this day is about 2 hours away from being over and i can go home and truly REST!
and to those who say 'stay home when you're sick, don't spread your germs!" i whole-heartedly agree. normally, i would stay home sick and no qualms about it. however, in my line of work, while i do not consider myself "important" there ARE serious time-periods in my job, pressing client needs with strict deadlines, such as 10.15, and there is only 1 other person who does my work. if enough came thru, it would look extremely BAD for me to not be here unless on my deathbed. (hell, the 10.15 deadline is the ONLY reason i didn't head to seattle or to LA for those shows! i may feel deathly ;)....but i am no where near that, so you bet....sick or no, it IS truly important i am here. tomorrow, it is not...and so tomorrow, finally, i will take a well-deserved FULL 8 hours of sick leave. (i have taken 2 hours yesterday and today, to come in later). so sometimes it's not so simple to just say 'stay home'...and most especially in this economic climate.

hope everyone feeling ill feels better soon! :)

Try this: Make Jello and drink it while its still warm and not gelled. It works great for all flu type syptoms. I learned this many years ago when my sis-in-law had her adrenal glands removed. The doc recommened it for cold trpe illnesses and its yet to fail me. I think its cuz its got the fluids you need and it dissolves slower than just water. I don't know. all I know is that it works.

I've had the damn cold for a month now....it isn't a bad one, but it is the first one I've had in a decade or more. I never get sick. Get a high quality Acidophilus and Vitamin D. Both will help your immune system, to rebuild and fight off what ever else this Winter will bring.

Whoa... I feel like I'm going to get sick just from being in the same thread as all you sick people!

I had the flu last year and it sucked big time! I slept for literally 23 hours a day for about 3 days straight.

    Hope everyone feels better soon!

    watch out for heart attacks?
    what correlation there?
    wasabi?

    i love wasabi!
i did not know it helped colds. too bad i don't have any wasabi. :(

    thanks!
One time I had a cold, and I guess I usually ate tame wasabi sauce, because I had about a 1/2 teaspoon and my head was on fire. Blew that cold right out the window. My heart was a little uppity, but at least the cold was gone.

    Wow, didn't know that.

I do NOT like seafood and if I eat wasabi food, i'd throw up.

I've been sick for a long time... still battling the cold and cough. Had the flu for a long time.

No health insurance so i'm fucked. :(

I've been drinking a lot of liquid and broth soups.... I suspect I have a semi-bronchitis because I get it every 2 years and it's always bad but at least I used to get antibiotics. Now I'm all on my own.

I just about killed myself this morning choking too... it was pretty scary!

Almost right after I responded to heather in my thread this morning, I went to get some cappuccino for my son and some coffee for myself cuz it does seem to help reduce the severeness of coughing - a lot actually.

But this morning with my stuffy nose and swallowing in the wrong tube, I choked! Then coughing came in to make it worse!

I started to feel my mind slipping away and i knew it meant that I could pass out, possibly not breathing.

I also knew I could not move to wake up my husband because by then it might be too late because of the movement limitation.

I had no choice but to stay calm and fighting not to allow myself to pass out. I thought about forcing myself to throw up but problem was that my stomach was empty. I thought about things that made me sick and finally got to throw up and it was liquid.

Pretty gross, I know...but it worked and finally got to breath again slowly.

Boy, was I dizzy! But I regained myself and drove the kids to school. :P

Bizarre year this has been.... just when I think I am more alert than before, there's always something else....

Sorry for the long post - I am pretty bad at that!

Hope you get well soon, especially before the Philly shows. :D
