go imac!

yep, finally took the plunge....and we are going apple. i wanted an apple for my very first computer - i was an art major - but mr. dream was absolutely set on getting a PC. 4-5 computers later....countless crashes, viruses, etc., plus seeing now many friends having and loving their apples, he finally decided he was ready. :P our sony vaio - which i loved btw - finally died on us. were thinking of getting the newest vaio being released 10.22...but decided, this is a perfect time to take the plunge and go mac.

have to say too, one of the BEST computer buying experiences i have ever had. seriously. the store was jam-packed, crazy. our salesperson, a young/very knowledgeable guy, spent close to 2 hours with us. (an hour at a time - we spent a n hour, went to other stores - then came back) he was awesome. ultimately, we ordered it online b/c they didn't have the wireless keyboard in stock, and also to get my corporate discount. thankfully, they don't work on commission and he didn't mind at all! he actually input our online order for us right there. 8-)

we should have our beautiful new imac all-in-one desktop this weekend or monday i should think. woooohooooo! psyched to get it, use it, learn it....it looks amazing!

    nice!
we're getting a desktop, all-in-one, 24 inch monitor. so yes, not small and portable, but man...so sleek and neat! 8-) we both like having a desktop at home. we actually even have a PC laptop as well, but barely use it. haha. someday i would love to get one of those really tiny laptops, that would be awesome....sit out in the garden with it. however, for our day-to-day use, definitely prefer the bigger desktop. hubby watches a lot of movies on it often, so this will be perfect for him. i am truly amazed by the picture...so crisp and so bold in color. i am excited to get/use it!

have to say that thus far, while the ease of set-up and transferring files went swimmingly, hubby is not *loving* the transition just yet. i think we both just have grown soooo accustomed to doing things a certain way with PC, that the mac is just...different. certain things seemingly more steps involved. and wtf, no right/left click mouse....no right-click than a drop down, etc.....just weird little differences. perhaps we're two old dogs too old to learn new tricks? ;) i hope not, b/c we just made a hefty investment! i haven't played around with it too much yet - haven't had the time - and i do want to really take my time, not get frustrated - and explore. so we shall see...

  • Which model?

    Did you get iWork?

Snow Leopard is awesome. Be ready to click on the left of windows.

One short cut you'll love: to quite an app is cmd+q.

    umm....idk. hahaha.
i just know it's a 24" all in one desktop, terrabyte hd, wireless keyboard and mouse.
    and yes, got iwork.
was tipped off already as to the lefty stance of the mac ;) tho it definitely takes adjusting, especially since i use a PC at work. i think, in time and as we get readjusted, we'll really love it.

and sure, share as many shortcuts as you can! :D

I have been using Windows since the beginning.

I've used MAC regularly - primary computer at work - for almost 3 years.

I think it's basically a wash. I like some things about each better than the other.

2 months ago, I switched my home computer to Ubuntu Linux. It's clearly better than PC or MAC for me as long as you're patient in the beginning to configure it correctly.

Yep - that's been my experience as well. It's better in some ways, not so much in others. I think the file management aspects of it are generally more difficult than PC.

As in my post above, I have extensive experience with both and I have made the switch on my personal computer to Linux.

yes, i think that's going to be the case.
however, the one big plus - and also the biggest impetus for our switiching teams - is the no virus factor. we've had a LOT of issues with our PCs over the years....viruses....hd problems....having to reconfigure or reload a few times over, etc. was a lot of extra work/stress for my husband. every mac owner we've ever spoken to has raved about mac in regards to the 'no issues' factor. however, i guess we definitely expected everything to be easier/better.
